When Dogs Go Stand Up Paddleboarding

Stand Up Paddleboarding with your dog // Ammo the Dachshund

I’m no stranger to the lake, and one of my favorite warm-weather activities is to go Stand Up Paddleboarding (aka SUP) with my mom and dad. So over the weekend we hit up our favorite lake and boat rental – Marsh Creek Lake.

Stand Up Paddleboarding with your dog // Ammo the Dachshund

I enjoy the paddleboard more than any of the other rentals (kayak, motorized rowboat, sailboat) because the paddleboard puts me the closest to the water – and I do in fact enjoy swimming when the water is just the right temperature.

Stand Up Paddleboarding with your dog // Ammo the Dachshund

Most of the time I end up taking a dive into the water when mom and dad drift too far apart. I think I channel my inner herding dog (thanks to my pal Trooper) and I worry a bit when my “pack” gets too far apart. So I’ll dive into the water and swim to dad to make sure he’s still ok.

Stand Up Paddleboarding with your dog // Ammo the Dachshund

When we finally get further out on the lake it’s enjoyable just to lay around on the paddleboards and soak in the sun. After all summer is almost here – and I gotta work on my tan!

Stand Up Paddleboarding with your dog // Ammo the Dachshund

As much as attention as I tend to draw on the lake – you would think that it’s pretty rare to see dogs out on the water.

Stand Up Paddleboarding with your dog // Ammo the Dachshund

But in actuality I tend to see quite a few dogs when I head out, like this pup Kahula, who’s owner has an awesome go-pro setup on their board and posts amazing instagram photos of their paddleboarding adventures.

So if you’re looking for a fun summertime activity to enjoy with your dog I highly recommend paddleboarding. You can check with your local boat rental to see if they allow dogs on their rentals (as I’ve found most do) and even if the paddle board isn’t for you there are lots of other rentable water vessels! Just make sure your pup wear’s it’s life vest! Mine is from my friends at KurgoAmmo the Dachshund

A Dog’s Day at the Devon Horse Show

As per my yearly tradition I always hit up the Devon Horse Show at least once while is running. Devon is one of the oldest and largest outdoor multi-breed competitions in the United States today, and as a bonus it’s VERY dog friendly!

A Dog's Day at the Devon Horse Show // Ammo the Dachshund

So last week on Memorial Day I decided to take a trip to Devon, where the who’s who of dogs (and horses) always are!

A Dog's Day at the Devon Horse Show // Ammo the Dachshund

The shopping is always upscale and unique (if not always a little out of my budget), but as a dog it’s fun to actually take a tour around shops like Anthropologie!

A Dog's Day at the Devon Horse Show // Ammo the Dachshund

I even happened across this fine dining set just for dogs from the Furnished Paw. I’m pretty sure I’d have to own a tux to dine like this.

My Busy Memorial Day Weekend // Ammo the Dachshund

While the shopping left me wishing my income was a bit higher, what I really came for was to watch the horses! (dressed in my finest of course)

A Dog's Day at the Devon Horse Show // Ammo the Dachshund

While there are lots of exciting events to watch at Devon (and things even non-horse lovers can appreciate), mom and I always get a kick out of watching the exhibitions. This year we made sure to attend so that we could watch the carriage racing and shetland pony races.

A Dog's Day at the Devon Horse Show // Ammo the Dachshund

So I staked out the best spot along the arena and watched these two exciting events.

The cart racing was fun to watch, and it left me dreaming of one day having a tiny pony just my size so I could ride around on a cart too! Wouldn’t that be fun!

The Shetland Pony Racing was my favorite though. And don’t worry, no kids were injured!

A Dog's Day at the Devon Horse Show // Ammo the Dachshund

It was a pretty hot day when I attended Devon, so between events I napped near the arena (and sipped on plenty of cool water).

My Busy Memorial Day Weekend // Ammo the Dachshund

After we were done watching the races I strolled the grounds, where I met lots of other friendly dogs.

A Dog's Day at the Devon Horse Show // Ammo the Dachshund

I even checked out some of the (highly decorated) stables.

And of course right before we headed home mom and I had to stop for a lemon stick. Because if you go to Devon, you have to have a lemon stick! (It’s a rule)Ammo the Dachshund

My Busy Memorial Day Weekend

It’s always hard to get back to the grind after a long holiday weekend. When I get a few extra days off work I tend to try and pack in as much stuff as I can…..sometimes too much! Check out the fun adventures I had over the long weekend…

My Busy Memorial Day Weekend // Ammo the Dachshund

I kicked things off on Friday by celebrating my Dad’s Birthday! Of course I always volunteer by helping to open presents.

My Busy Memorial Day Weekend // Ammo the Dachshund

Then on Saturday I headed to the farm to celebrate my best friend Trooper’s 7th Birthday! Horray! I got to spend all evening with Trooper (and open his presents too) while my mom and dad headed to the wedding for my Aunt & Uncle!

Sunday I was up bright and early to spend some time with my ponies!

Then I hit the trail with my pal Shilah while my dad and Shilah’s dad played Disc Golf.

My Busy Memorial Day Weekend // Ammo the Dachshund

Shilah and I burned lots of calories hiking the course on this hot day!

My Busy Memorial Day Weekend // Ammo the Dachshund

And I may have snuck in a nap or two along the way.

Then on Memorial Day I was on the move again as I took a trip to the Devon Horse Show.

My Busy Memorial Day Weekend // Ammo the Dachshund

I had fun making new friends, and watching all the ponies compete! I’ll be back later to share some more details about my fun trip to Devon.

Later that day I made it back to the farm to enjoy a Barbecue with all my favorite people.

Trooper and Cricket included!

As you can imagine by the end of my long weekend I looked like this, and could barely move a muscle!

But, you know what they say, a tired dog is a happy dog! What did you do over the long weekend?Ammo the Dachshund

The Dog Friendly Shake Shack

The Dog Friendly Shake Shack // Ammo the Dachshund

On a recent excursion I found myself at the King of Prussia Mall, right around dinner time I might add. Not one to pass up an opportunity to dine out with my family, I decided to try out one of the local dog friendly restaurants.

The Dog Friendly Shake Shack // Ammo the Dachshund

The Shake Shack is located just outside the mall, and has establishments in other states as well. I had heard rumors that they had a dog menu, so I couldn’t wait to try it out!

The Dog Friendly Shake Shack // Ammo the Dachshund

I waited patiently outside under our table while mom and dad went inside to check out the menu.

The Dog Friendly Shake Shack // Ammo the Dachshund

There was in fact a whole section of the menu dedicated to us furry four-legged patrons!

The Dog Friendly Shake Shack // Ammo the Dachshund

In collaboration with one of my favorite bakeries, Bocce’s Bakery, the Shake Shack offered up some tasty biscuits and frozen treats.

But alas, they were all sold out of both when mom and dad finally made it up to the counter to order!

The Dog Friendly Shake Shack // Ammo the Dachshund

There was no shortage of human food though and while my parents chowed down on hot dogs, burgers, fries and shakes, I was left staring at the table like this….

The Dog Friendly Shake Shack // Ammo the Dachshund

Don’t worry, when you look this cute you get your fair share of burgers and fries too!

I’ll just have to hit up the Shake Shack again soon to try out their doggie menu. What’s your dog’s favorite dog friendly restaurant? Share your favorites around the country in the comments below! Ammo the Dachshund

Marsh Creek Mother’s Day

Mother's Day at Marsh Creek // Ammo the Dachshund

Sunday was Mother’s Day, so Trooper and I packed up our moms (and our ponies) and headed to the Marsh Creek State Park so that everyone could have a fun day.

Mother's Day at Marsh Creek // Ammo the Dachshund

While our mom’s went on an afternoon ride with the ponies Trooper and I went frolicking through the grass.

Mother's Day at Marsh Creek // Ammo the Dachshund

As if the look on my face doesn’t give it away already, I’m absolutely in love with frolicking!

Mother's Day at Marsh Creek // Ammo the Dachshund

After our moms returned, Trooper and I hit the lake for a little dip.

Mother's Day at Marsh Creek // Ammo the Dachshund

The water was a bit too chilly for my liking, so I sent Trooper out to retrieve all of the items floating in the lake instead.

Mother's Day at Marsh Creek // Ammo the Dachshund

Thanks to me (and I guess Trooper), the lake is now stick free! Thank goodness!

Mother's Day at Marsh Creek // Ammo the Dachshund

As you can imagine our moms were pretty tired out after an eventful day, so I faked napping so that my mom could rest too. I’m sweet like that.

How was your mother’s day? Ammo the Dachshund

When Goats Run Races

When Goats Run Races // Ammo the Dachshund

On Sunday I attended the 2014 Sly Fox Goat Races – a first for me!

When Goats Run Races // Ammo the Dachshund

I hopped on the bus at the fairgrounds in the hopes of seeing some exciting racing!

When Goats Run Races // Ammo the Dachshund

The turnout to the event was much larger than I expected, especially since for the better part of the morning we were stuck under a raincloud.

When Goats Run Races // Ammo the Dachshund

I wasn’t going to let a little rain stop me from having a good time though, so I pulled up my hood and got ready for some fun!

When Goats Run Races // Ammo the Dachshund

First I hit up the food tent and ate some yummy Beerwurst, I’m drooling still thinking about it.

When Goats Run Races // Ammo the Dachshund

After my belly was full I decided to mingle and check out the goat racing competition.

When Goats Run Races // Ammo the Dachshund

Tension was high, as the goats argued amongst each other about who they thought would come out on top and have the honor of getting the ceremonial bock beer named after them.

When Goats Run Races // Ammo the Dachshund

I sniffed out all the competitors and secretly made my bets on who I thought would win.

When Goats Run Races // Ammo the Dachshund

I also made sure to keep looking over my shoulder, because I don’t trust anything with horns!

When Goats Run Races // Ammo the Dachshund

Not only did I meet goats at the races, but there were lots of dogs there too, like this big guy who had a go pro camera strapped to his back.

When Goats Run Races // Ammo the Dachshund

I also met this guy, Chase the mini Australian Shepherd. He reminded me of my best buddy Trooper, but much more my size!

When Goats Run Races // Ammo the Dachshund

While I bounced around the event I attracted quite a bit of attention from the children there (as well as the adults that couldn’t help but want to take my picture).

When Goats Run Races // Ammo the Dachshund

The kids were my favorite part though, because where there’s kids, there’s food!

When Goats Run Races // Ammo the Dachshund

Finally it was time for the goat races to start, or so I heard, because I couldn’t see anything on account of being so short! #shortdogproblems

When Goats Run Races // Ammo the Dachshund

Thankfully mom and dad helped me work my way to the front of the crowd so that I’d had a much better view.

When Goats Run Races // Ammo the Dachshund

And before I knew it the goats were off….well kinda. I’m not sure what I was expecting, maybe because I’m used to seeing and racing in the dachshund races – well goats aren’t quite as speedy!

It was quite comical to watch actually, and at the end of the day it was announced that the goat, Spartacus was the champion!

But in a major upset on monday it was re-announced that the new winner was Jixxer after a photo surfaced of his leg crossing the finish line ahead of Spartacus. So much drama at the goat races! I guess better luck next year Spartacus!Ammo the Dachshund

P.S. I hear the champion Jixxer is up for adoption! Maybe next year I’ll have my own goat to enter, as the ponies on the farm have been asking for a goat buddy for a long time now!

Hiking through the Forrest

Hiking through the Forrest // Ammo the Dachshund

Over the weekend I went on a fun hiking adventure with my pal Shilah the Husky. Shilah and I both like to get out an be adventurous when the weather is nice, so we decided to practice our hiking for an upcoming camping trip we will be going on this summer.

Hiking through the Forrest // Ammo the Dachshund

Shilah led the way most of the time because she’s ALWAYS gotta be the lead “sled dog”, but I was happy to trail along behind and pick up on all the scents she missed.

Hiking through the Forrest // Ammo the Dachshund

We got muddy.

Hiking through the Forrest // Ammo the Dachshund

We got wet.

Hiking through the Forrest // Ammo the Dachshund

And we enjoyed every minute of it.

Hiking through the Forrest // Ammo the Dachshund

And when we hit the open fields….

Hiking through the Forrest // Ammo the Dachshund

…I told Shilah to fall back, because I was in the lead now! And I had caught the scent of a rabbit!

And nobody’s better at tracking rabbits than me!

What kind of adventures did you go on this past weekend?

Don’t worry, no rabbits were harmed. (this time)Ammo the Dachshund

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

As with every spring’s arrival I am always anxiously awaiting the visit from a special bunny to my house!

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

This year was special because I got a visit from the Barkbox Bunny! While I was sleeping on Easter Eve the Barkbox bunny delivered my monthly box of goodies so that I would have something to open on Easter morning!

Mom made me wait until my cousins and Trooper came over on Easter to open it, and I happily shared all my treats with the ones I love.

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

My April Barkbox was filled with lots of goodies fit for an outdoor adventure. How did they know that I love adventures!?

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

I went to town right away gnawing in my Barkworthies bully stick (one of my favorites).

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

I also enjoyed the Mr. Barksmith’s frozen carrot cake smoothie. Those bunnies are so sweet to share their carrots with me!

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

The Quaker Pet Group toy provided hours of entertainment for me on Easter morning and Trooper and I had fun racing around the backyard with it.

My Barkbox also contained a package of Etta Says duck treats and some Complete Natural Nutrition grain-free campfire treats. Can you say yum!

While I hear the “Barkbox Bunny” is on vacation until next Spring, you can still fetch your pet a Barkbox subscription and save 10% off with code AMMO5 and as a bonus this month Barkbox is donating $1 – $5 from every subscription sold to an animal rescue in need!

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

After my own easter basket fun it was time to help my human cousins go on their egg hunt.

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

Unfortunately I had to stay on my leash because mom said I would find all the eggs before my cousins got a chance to.

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

Now what fun is an easter egg hunt if you don’t let the dog with the best sniffer do all the hunting?

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

Don’t worry, I still shouted out clues as to where to find them! Those kids would be lost without me!

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

After a good easter meal with family I retired to the basement where I let my cousins dress me up. Apparently they thought it was extra fashionable to wear super hero undies and a buret.

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

Although I’m not quite sure it was as fashionable as they thought after I got all those snickers from Trooper. (maybe he’s just jealous!)

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

I had quite the fabulous Easter and as you can imagine I slept very very well that night.

How did your pup celebrate the Easter holiday?

Sawdust

Working Late on the Farmhouse // Ammo the Dachshund

The last few weeks I’ve been busy helping with construction at the farm – most specifically the site of Trooper’s new house.

Working Late on the Farmhouse // Ammo the Dachshund

From helping to install insulation…..

Working Late on the Farmhouse // Ammo the Dachshund

…to helping to make cuts on the table saw, I’ve pretty much become a house building expert! (don’t worry, I don’t actually use the saw, I simply bark at the operators to not cut off a limb!)

Working Late on the Farmhouse // Ammo the Dachshund

Trooper on the other hand is becoming quite skilled at holding boards in need of nailing. He may or may not be sneaking off with a few that he “claims” need shortening with the help of a few skilled gnaws!

Working Late on the Farmhouse // Ammo the Dachshund

When I signed up to help build this house I really was not informed about just how many hours it actually takes to build a house from the ground up. It’s a good thing Trooper brought along his construction bed, because I must admit it has come in handy during long work hours on the farm.

Working Late on the Farmhouse // Ammo the Dachshund

Working into the wee hours of the night to keep the house building on schedule is apparently now in my job description.

Working Late on the Farmhouse // Ammo the Dachshund

With a few power naps tossed in here and there.

Don’t worry though, Trooper and I are quite good at encouraging our workers to KEEP WORKING when it comes down to it!

Working Late on the Farmhouse // Ammo the Dachshund

And thankfully due to our hard work progress is moving along rather quickly now, with the drywall installation going in just this past weekend!

Working Late on the Farmhouse // Ammo the Dachshund

Yup, definitely starting to look like a real house now! I’ve already “marked” my bedroom for when Trooper lets me sleep over.

And I’m proudly wearing my badge of sawdust to prove just how much of a hard worker I am! Ammo the Dachshund

Pennsylvania Roadtrip with Ammo the Dachshund

As many of you may already know (via Instagram and Facebook) I packed up and headed out on a little road trip this past weekend in celebration of my mom’s Birthday!

Just a little weekend getaway, we didn’t travel far (staying in my home state of Pennsylvania), but boy did we pack in as much as we could!

Pennsylvania Roadtrip with Ammo the Dachshund

My first stop was a cute little flea market in Kutztown, PA. You might recall I’ve been here before, and while it’s usually much bigger in the warmer months it was still fun to browse around at.

Pennsylvania Roadtrip with Ammo the Dachshund

I even had my eyes on this electric face off hockey game – which unfortunately mom and dad wouldn’t let me bring home since I already have way too many toys!

Pennsylvania Roadtrip with Ammo the Dachshund

Next stop was the Kutztown University Bookstore (since mom and dad went to school there). I waited in the car while mom and dad shopped, and I’m still a little bit peeved they didn’t bring me back one of these fun KU dog jackets.

Pennsylvania Roadtrip with Ammo the Dachshund

After spending some time in Kutztown, we headed up towards the mountains and stopped in at Centralia. For those of you that don’t know Centralia is the site of an underground mining fire that started in 1962. The now long since abandoned town still continues to burn underground, and remnants of the broken highway and burning can still be seen today.

Pennsylvania Roadtrip with Ammo the Dachshund

Unfortunately most of the area was still pretty snow covered, so it took me a bit of hiking to find some remnants of the fire destruction.

Pennsylvania Roadtrip with Ammo the Dachshund

Most of the old highway has been vandalized over the years – but it’s still an interesting site to see.

Pennsylvania Roadtrip with Ammo the Dachshund

I’m pretty sure my middle name should be explorer, because it’s one of my favorite things to do!

Pennsylvania Roadtrip with Ammo the Dachshund

After my visit to Centralia we headed further North to my accommodations for the night in Dushore, Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania Roadtrip with Ammo the Dachshund

The Endless Mountains Motel was full of log cabin charm – and I even had my very own fireplace! Looks like I wouldn’t be needing all the jackets I packed after all!

Pennsylvania Roadtrip with Ammo the Dachshund

The next morning I kissed my new bear friend from Dushore goodbye and headed off to the Ricketts Glen State Park for some hiking!

Pennsylvania Roadtrip with Ammo the Dachshund

While most of the hiking trails at Ricketts Glen were closed due to the snow and ice, that didn’t stop me from finding some safe trails to spend the day exploring.

Pennsylvania Roadtrip with Ammo the Dachshund

Don’t worry the conditions weren’t quite as extreme as this photo may make it seem (it was a posed photo), and most of the trails we hiked were pretty flat.

Pennsylvania Roadtrip with Ammo the Dachshund

After sufficiently wearing myself out with several hours of hiking I was ready to make my way back home.

Pennsylvania Roadtrip with Ammo the Dachshund

But before we pulled into my driveway mom and dad made one last stop at Cabelas – the super store for all outdoor adventure activities. And not to be forgotten, the mecca of all hunting dog toys! Which seriously, am I not a hunting dog…..where was my shopping bag full of toys?

Pennsylvania Roadtrip with Ammo the Dachshund

And to make things worse, mom and dad even got to see one of these furry fellows up close and personal in the Cabelas wilderness display.

Pennsylvania Roadtrip with Ammo the Dachshund

After we all got home I had fun reminiscing with my family about all the fun we had had (despite this being the best photo we took of the three of us!) and I can’t wait to go on a weekend road trip again!

Have you taken your dog on any fun road trips recently? Ammo the Dachshund
