Ruffwear Front Range Harness Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

I hope everyone had a fantastic Halloween weekend, I know I sure did. I’ll be back later this week to share my Halloweenie adventures with you, but today I wanted to share with you a new product that I’m very excited about!

Ruffwear Front Range Harness Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Ruffwear’s new Front Range Harness is great for everyday wear, and a snap to put on your dog.

Ruffwear Front Range Harness Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

It has an aluminum V-Ring on the back for easy leash attachment, I also use mine in the car and it easily attaches to my seatbelt.

It also comes with a reinforced webbing attachment on the front so you can attach a leash there for additional control or training.

Mom and Dad also liked how there was padding underneath the buckles in the back, which makes it quick and easy to put my harness on without the risk of the buckles pinching my skin.

Another cool feature is the hidden ID pocket. Inside the little flap that says ID is a tether so you can attach your dog’s identification, then neatly tuck it into the pocket. It’s great for the hiking trail so you don’t have to worry about your dog’s tags getting caught on things.

And for the sake of never having enough ways to keep your dog safe, the inside of the harness also has a handy tag that you can write your dog’s name and phone number on, should they ever get lost (or should you ever loose your super cool new harness).

The Ruffwear Front Range Harness comes in 4 fun colors – Pacific Blue (which I’m wearing), Twilight Gray, Alpenglow Pink, and Campfire Orange.

If you follow me on Facebook, you may have already noticed that I’ve been wearing my Front Range Harness for all of my most recent adventures! It’s quickly become my favorite go – to walking harness.

And even though typically I prefer a harness that doesn’t go between my front legs, this one doesn’t seem to incumber the way I walk and I actually quite enjoy wearing it.

But wether I’m hiking the trails, or taking a stroll through town it’s comfortable enough to wear everywhere I go!

You can fetch your own Front Range Harness from Ruffwear for $39.95 in a variety of sizes for big and small dogs.

Happy Halloweenie Friends!

Scary Things

halloween dog

Seeing as tomorrow is Halloween I thought it would be fun to compile a list of 5 things that give me the heebie jeebies, and just totally make me want to hide under the bed!

Ammo’s List of Scary Things!

The Dog Pack // Ammo the Dachshund

1. Over Zealous Big Dogs

It’s true, I get a little un-nerved when Big Dogs think I’m their own personal squeaky toy. It’s tough being a small dog, and sometimes certain big dogs don’t give you any respect (my pal Trooper is exempt from this category as he’s really just a big softie). But I’m always quick to remind those bigger dogs that I’m NOBODY’S SQUEAKY TOY!

Ammo's Annual Vet Visit // Ammo the Dachshund

2. Vet’s Office

It’s not the vet I dislike, it’s just the actual office. It smells like other dogs, shots, and scary things. I totally get the shakes every time I go. Honestly, do you blame me though……I lost my manhood in that place!

Ammo and the Fly

3. Flies

I don’t know what it is about that tiny little buzzing creature that strikes fear in me, but if one of those flies finds it’s way inside I spend the entire day cowering in the corner as mom runs around trying to swat it for me.

ammo the dachshund camping

4. Campfires

Even though I love to go camping, the smell of campfires and smoke are not something I’m very fond of. Call it natural instinct, call it paranoia – it doesn’t even have to be a campfire, just the smell of something smoking is enough to strike fear in me! I’ve even been known to hide in the bathtub if mom or dad burn dinner (well mostly dad!).

Ammo the Dachshund // Evening Hunting on the Farm

“What’s that sound”?

5. Gun Shots

As ironic as it is (considering my name is Ammo), the sound of a far-off gun shot on the farm is enough to send me screaming for my mom! Better safe than sorry I say!

What are your dog’s biggest fears? Ammo the Dachshund

Hanging out in Leaves

Hanging out in Leaves // Ammo the Dachshund

There is something just so wonderful about hanging out in a pile of leaves.

Hanging out in Leaves // Ammo the Dachshund

The crunchy sound, the dead leafy smell (you totally know what I’m talking about), the pretty fall colors.

Hanging out in Leaves // Ammo the Dachshund

I love ALL OF IT, especially the rumor I heard from Cricket the farm cat that sometimes little critters like to hang out in leaf piles too.

Hanging out in Leaves // Ammo the Dachshund

And this is not the face of a cat that would lie!

Hanging out in Leaves // Ammo the Dachshund

So if you don’t mind, I’ll just spend the rest of my day hanging out in this pile of leaves – and waiting for the critters to join me. *wink*

Halloween Adventures with an American Icon

Disclaimer: this post is brought to you by Barkbox.

So seeing as how we’re just a few short days away from Halloween (or Halloweenie as I like to call it), I decided it was time to officially share my costume for this year. As you might already know, I’ve made it my mission each year to come up with a handmade costume (with some help from my mom and dad) – and this year was no exception!

Evel Knievel // Ammo the Dachshund's Halloween Costume

Of all the super heroes that have graced the pages of Marvel comics, there is only one real life superhero (well aside from me) …… Evel Knievel. And the legend lives on with my Halloween Costume this year!

Evel Knievel // Ammo the Dachshund's Halloween Costume

Evel Knievel was known as King of the Daredevils as he flew through the air on his motorcycle – over canyons, mountain lions, rattlesnakes, even buses.

Evel Knievel // Ammo the Dachshund's Halloween Costume

Of course when I chose to be him this Halloween I couldn’t help but envy his costume fashion flare and brave (albeit maybe a bit foolish too) daredevil antics.

Evel Knievel // Ammo the Dachshund's Halloween Costume

I’m glad he at least opted to wear a helmet!

Evel Knievel // Ammo the Dachshund's Halloween Costume

Considering Evel Knievel broke a record 32 bones in his career, which landed him in the Guinness Book of World Records, I knew some precautions had to be taken before I attempted my first daredevil feat.

Evel Knievel // Ammo the Dachshund's Halloween Costume

Evel Knievel // Ammo the Dachshund's Halloween Costume

So to prepare, I practiced falling…..gracefully. Well as gracefully as one can when flying through the air on a motorcycle.

Evel Knievel // Ammo the Dachshund's Halloween Costume

So after a thorough practice session on “landing” I headed out to the backyard to attempt my first stunt.

Evel Knievel // Ammo the Dachshund's Halloween Costume

Mom helped me set up some ramps, and I double triple checked them for safety.

Evel Knievel // Ammo the Dachshund's Halloween Costume

But seeing as how I was a little short on school buses for my first daredevil stunt, I had to improvise and use ponies instead.

Evel Knievel // Ammo the Dachshund's Halloween Costume

Also, I had a little trouble coming by a motorcycle, but not to worry – Mom’s vacuum seemed like the perfect thing to carry me through the air.

Evel Knievel // Ammo the Dachshund's Halloween Costume

Now if you’re particularly nervous about watching a dachshund dressed as Evel Knievel riding a vacuum over several ponies than I suggest you close your eyes for this next part. It’s not for the faint of heart.

Evel Knievel // Ammo the Dachshund's Halloween Costume

Better yet, I’ll spare you all the scary details and just let you know that I did it! I landed safely on the other side – clearing the ponies, and gently navigating my vacuum to the ground.

Evel Knievel // Ammo the Dachshund's Halloween Costume

But you know what, after my hair raising adventure through the air, I decided I’m much safer with all 4 feet on the ground.

Evel Knievel // Ammo the Dachshund's Halloween Costume

Especially when my October Barkbox showed up at my door!

Evel Knievel // Ammo the Dachshund's Halloween Costume

Packed full of lots of yummy Halloweenie goodies just for me, it totally got my into the spooky spirit! (As if wearing an Evel Knievel costume wasn’t Halloweenie enough)

Evel Knievel // Ammo the Dachshund's Halloween Costume

Did you know that Barkbox has a new program called Scout’s Honor – and if you or your pup isn’t completely happy with an item, the BarkHappy team will replace it with something better suited – or issue a credit of equal value to the brand new BarkShop.

Evel Knievel // Ammo the Dachshund's Halloween Costume

My favorite this month? This Plush Puppies Invincibles Cat!

And now that my Barkbox has arrived, something tells me I won’t be making it to the other side on my next big jump!

Happy Halloweenie everyone! Ammo the Dachshund

Kentucky Bluebird Crate Pad Review & Giveaway

Kentucky Bluebird Kennel Bed Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

You may remember last year when I did a review for a fluffy organic dog bed from Kentucky Bluebird. Well I’m back with another fun product review from my pals at Kentucky Bluebird.

Because of their fluffy kennel bed that I added to my own crate last year I’m happy to report that almost a year later I am much happier spending time in my crate. While it’s still not my FAVORITE place to be, I happily go in there each night at dinner and relax with a peanut butter stuffed toy on my Kentucky Bluebird bed. Mom attributes much of my new success with the crate because of the soft surface I now have to lay on.

Kentucky Bluebird Kennel Bed Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Well now I’m back to share the Kentucky Bluebird Crate Mat, which comes in 9 fabulous colors. Suitable for dogs or cats, these pet mats make great travel beds, kennel or crate liners or in-home lounge spots – and come in a variety of sizes for big and small pets.

Kentucky Bluebird Kennel Bed Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

My gray mat even came with these great ties on all 4 corners so that you can tie it anywhere to keep it from moving around. In my case this is great for when I decide to “bury a bone” inside my crate.

These crate mats are machine-stitched, and made with industrial strength upholstery thread, making them scratch and chew-resistant. The mats are made with bonded poly fiber (made in the USA) and quilted to prevent bunching in the wash. It’s very soft and provides about 1 inch of plushy softness. The outer fabric is heavy duty 100% Organic, GOTS Certified Cotton Duck. You can feel good about purchasing items made from organic fabric, knowing the environmental impact of the cotton production and fabric manufacturing was significantly less than that of regular fabric. Organic fabric is also a healthier choice for your pet and home.

Kentucky Bluebird Kennel Bed Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Since I still enjoy napping on my fluffier bed from Kentucky Bluebird I decided that this crate mat would be perfect for in the car when I don’t have my booster seat with me. Using the ties I can easily attach it to the seatbelt so it won’t slide around and it will keep mom or dad’s car clean from my inevitable muddy paws.

With the great part being the mat is machine washable on cold!

Kentucky Bluebird Kennel Bed Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

So if you’re looking to add a multifunctional crate mat to your home, I highly recommend Kentucky Bluebird – their products certainly hold up over time!

P.S. They can also sprinkle catnip in with the mat stuffing for no extra charge – don’t tell Cricket or Spider that…..because they would totally be stealing my new mat!

You can fetch your own crate mat from Kentucky Bluebird! As a bonus use the coupon code ONLINEAD for 10% off any order!

Throwback Thursday: Halloween Past

With Halloween just around the corner I thought it would be fun to take a look back at my VERY FIRST Halloween with my family!

Trooper dressed up as a Pony (complete with western rider and saddle on his back) and I dressed up as a cute little Dinosaur.

Throwback Thursday: Halloween Past // Ammo the Dachshund

Mom said it would of been more appropriate if I had dressed as a T-Rex (on account of my short stubby arms)…..I’m laughing real hard mom, real hard!

Throwback Thursday: Halloween Past // Ammo the Dachshund

Apparently I missed the memo that Dinosaurs are supposed to be bigger and badder that ponies though, because Trooper seemed to keep trying to get a taste of Dinosaur meat.

Fair Hill International 2014

Just like last year, I attended the Fairhill International event to watch one of the most prestigious international three day horse events in the world this past weekend.

Ammo the Dachshund visits Fairhill International

This time I was a seasoned pro on the school bus ride over to the grounds. I made sure to assure all the other dogs on the bus that we weren’t in fact headed for school (because who goes to school on a Sunday?).

Ammo the Dachshund visits Fairhill International

My first stop on the grounds…..lunch! And with lots of choices to choose from I begged mom to get the steak sandwich wrap….mmmm…..steak.

Ammo the Dachshund visits Fairhill International

Next I hit up the shopping tents – in which all the venders commented on how I was the best dressed dog there! (I do try my best)

Then it was time for the main event….Show Jumping! I spent the afternoon watching as Jennie Brannigan and her horse, Cambalda, took home the Gold!

By the end of the day I was exhausted from “riding every stride” with the competitors as I cheered them on!

Good news is I have an entire year to rest up for next year’s event! Ammo the Dachshund

Fall is in the Air

It’s that time of year when the sun sets earlier, the leaves change a pretty color, and you have to bundle up a little more on the farm! Here’s a fun little collection of photos from my recent fall fun around the farm.
