American Barn Warrior

Thanksgiving Roadtrip: Folly Beach Dogs

I like to think I’m a pretty fit dog. I mean I exercise regularly, I try to eat a healthy meal (aside from that 1/2 a hoagie I stole off the dining room table the other day….but that hardly counts), and I’m always ready for fun adventures!

So when I recently caught sight of the TV show, American Ninja Warrior, I was totally hooked! I mean I could EASILY get through those tough obstacle courses.

American Ninja Warrior

Half the battle is having flair anyway, and I totally have that covered!

Unfortunately American Ninja Warrior doesn’t accept dog submissions. But, that wasn’t going to stop me from having a little fun of my own, because I invented AMERICAN BARN WARRIOR….

American Barn Warrior

Just as challenging, and with equal amounts of flair, American Barn Warrior is going to be the next big thing.

American Barn Warrior

Hay Bale obstacles, trenches, and perhaps a horse or two….it’s not for the faint of heart (or those of you who didn’t eat your wheaties today!).

So what do you think, are you up for the challenge? Do you think you could master my American Barn Warrior Challenge? Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

A Holiday Weekend

Over the 4th of July Weekend mom and I took a little extra time off from working at the shop. I work pretty hard, and it’s nice to take a break sometimes to unwind and have some fun. Of course my family’s idea of fun is squeezing in as many adventures as possible – so I made sure to do a little bit of everything over the weekend!

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

I kicked things off with a campfire in the backyard. Because it wouldn’t be the 4th without a good old fashioned weenie roast. (don’t worry….actual dachshund wasn’t on the menu)

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

Then it was time for a Saturday morning breakfast out in town, followed by catching a game of little league baseball. After all I gotta get practicing my team coaching skills for when my little sister gets here and is ready to join a sports team!

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

Then it was time to celebrate a very special ladies’ 92 Birthday! I loved getting to celebrate my Super MomMom’s B-day with the family.

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

Family makes everything more fun!

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

Of course it wouldn’t be a “vacation” if I didn’t do some laps around the farm.

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

Just enough to warrant a 3 hour nap of course!

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

I even got to check out a hot air balloon launch. It was pretty cool, but I’m pretty happy just watching from the ground….that fire looked terrifying!

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

While I’m not a huge fan of fireworks (I alternate between hiding in the basement, and barking my head off at them in anger….can’t make up my mind if I’m scared or just pissed really), I did track down some of “nature’s fireworks” with a sunset trip to the lake. Nothing better.

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

4th of July was finally here and I couldn’t miss the celebration in town. Good food and family fun, a perfect way to celebrate America!

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

Then it’s off to the farm again to track down some groundhogs.

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

Well, and maybe do a farm chore or two too!

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

And to end the perfect holiday weekend, a cookout of epic proportions….where corn on the cob is necessary for a small dachshund’s survival. (well at least thats what I would have my family think…..and you better not tell them otherwise!)

I’m pretty sure after this weekend I’m going to need to sleep for an entire week. What sort of fun did your pups get into? Any other dogs out there can’t make up their mind about how they feel about fireworks? Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

Farm Lookouts

Barn Dogs Get Busy on the Farm

As barn dogs, there is always a lot of tasks for Trooper and I to do. And to be honest, this farm just wouldn’t run properly without us.

Barn Dogs Get Busy on the Farm

Trooper is always on my case to help him be a lookout. “Lookout for low flying birds” “Lookout for cars pulling down the farm driveway” “Lookout for anything suspicious and out of the ordinary”

Barn Dogs Get Busy on the Farm

I on the other hand usually have my own ideas about what we should be actually looking out for.

Barn Dogs Get Busy on the Farm

What about “Lookout for the snakes that accidentally get baled in the hay”

Barn Dogs Get Busy on the Farm

Or “Lookout for yummy missed poop in the pony stalls”

Barn Dogs Get Busy on the Farm

“Lookout for people in boots who might mistakenly step on you”

Barn Dogs Get Busy on the Farm

And “Lookout for ponies who look cute, but are really thinking maybe they didn’t get enough to eat”.

Barn Dogs Get Busy on the Farm

So Trooper can keep a lookout for strangers who might want to brush our ponies (the horror), and whatever other boring stuff he comes up with….

Barn Dogs Get Busy on the Farm

…and I’ll continue to lookout for the important stuff. Because we all know that pony poop isn’t going anywhere except for my belly! Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

Trooper and I pride ourselves in being super awesome barn dogs. We take our jobs very seriously, and immerse ourselves in everything on the farm.

Our favorite thing to “immerse” ourselves in on the farm……pony poop! We’re so fortunate that our farm has an abundance of it too. Did you know it’s a real delicacy in dog culture?

After a day of “farm life” Trooper and I can get pretty stinky (just how we like it). Our mom’s haven’t come to appreciate the highly cultivated “barn dog scent” yet, so alas a roll in the manure pile inevitably leads to bath time.

Thanks to our new friends at Absorbine® we now have a product that makes the whole bath experience quicker so Trooper and I can get back to our farm duties faster!

The Absorbine Woof Pouf™ is a handy bath scrubbing pouf for dogs with the soap beads built right into it! No more bulky bottles of shampoo! Easily Clean Dirty Barn Dogs with the #WoofPouf from Absorbing + A Giveaway #sp

The Woof Pouf comes in two different types, UltraShield® Green Woof Pouf™ with soap beads made from natural herbal extracts that are known to effectively repel fleas and ticks, and the ShowSheen® Woof Pouf™ with Ordenone® soap beads that help eliminate even the toughest odors, including skunk smell.

Trooper and I decided to test out the ShowSheen Woof Pouf this time around. Some key features:

  • No-mess, one-handed remedy to eliminate tough odors like wet dog smell and skunk odor (or in our case stinky barn dog smell)
  • Soap beads inside the pouf—just add water
  • Rich lather lasts up to 15 washes
  • Conditioners leave coat soft and shiny
  • Great “on-the-go” shampoo when traveling; no more need for slippery shampoo bottles!
  • Sulfate and paraben free

Now all we had to do was wait for Boomerang to get out of the wash stall…..he always hogs all the warm water!

Mom loved how it made it easy to wash two dogs at once in the barn wash stall (since there wasn’t anywhere convenient to tie us up to) and all she needed was a hose and the Woof Pouf.

Cat Scratch Fever

Disclaimer: this post is brought to you by Chewy. All opinions are my own, and I only share products I think you and your pets will love.

Catit Bench Scratcher with Catnip from Chewy

Recently this interesting looking thing showed up at my door from my friends at Chewy.com.

Catit Bench Scratcher with Catnip from Chewy

Initially I thought maybe it was a new pedestal for when I perform all my amazing tricks, but then mom informed me that this little goodie wasn’t for me at all, but for my farm cat friends instead.

I’m not so sure they were convinced it was for them either, that is until mom sprinkled a little of the catnip that came with it on the cardboard bench.

See the Catit Bench Scratcher with Catnip from Chewy.com just instantly draws a crowd! My gal pals Cricket & Spider couldn’t keep their paws off it!

My outdoor cat friends have been using their new scratching bench everyday on the farm. Cricket has pretty much claimed this one, while Spider is still totally in love with the cat play mat they got last month from Chewy.

Mom said who knew all it took to keep them from scratching up the walls of the barn was a cat scratching bench!

And the really good news is that it even kept my pal Trooper occupied enough that I got to sneak into the barn and steal all the cat food!

Winter on the Farm

Winter on the Farm // Ammo the Dachshund

Living in Eastern Pennsylvania, my buddy Trooper and I get our fair share of snowy weather during the winter months. But if you think that every time the sky lets out a little precipitation we hide inside the barn with our ponies, then you would be mistaken my friend!

Winter on the Farm // Ammo the Dachshund

Winter on the Farm // Ammo the Dachshund

Instead we run around the farm like crazy dogs trying to have as much fun in the white stuff before our moms call us back inside.

Winter on the Farm // Ammo the Dachshund

My pal Trooper goes a bit wild in the snow, trying to catch EVERY SINGLE SNOWFLAKE….

Winter on the Farm // Ammo the Dachshund

…and collecting EVERY SINGLE STICK before they get buried in the white stuff forever!

Winter on the Farm // Ammo the Dachshund

Sometimes I like to just watch him make a fool of himself. It’s quite entertaining.

Winter on the Farm // Ammo the Dachshund

Then things just start to get really silly.

Oh that Trooper.

Winter on the Farm // Ammo the Dachshund

Trooper’s silliness eventually rubs off on all my ponies too.

Winter on the Farm // Ammo the Dachshund

They seem to like to get their crazies out in the snow as well, running around and leaping into the air.

Winter on the Farm // Ammo the Dachshund

They even enjoy rolling around in the snow just like Trooper!

I must be missing something here, because I don’t know about you, but cold snow inside my jacket doesn’t sound that appealing to me!

Eventually my toes begin to get a little chilly, and it’s time to head back inside where it’s warm.

Winter on the Farm // Ammo the Dachshund

Don’t worry though, once we thaw out a bit we’ll be back out for more fun! Ammo the Dachshund

What is your dog’s favorite thing to do in the snow? Do they get all crazy about the white stuff like Trooper and my ponies?

Want to see more photos of my ponies playing in the snow? Be sure to visit their blog!

P.S. If your wondering where the jackets came from that Trooper and I are wearing… Trooper’s came from a thrift store and was likely handmade, and mine I won in a contest from the lovely pet product company, Hurtta. Underneath my outer coat I’m wearing a fleece from Ruffwear.

I went on a Barn Hunt

Barn Hunt with Ammo the Dachshund

On Mother’s Day I got to go on a very special adventure with my mom (dad came too). We packed up the car and headed south to New Jersey for a Barn Hunt Practice!

Barn Hunts were created to honor the traditional role of “ratcatchers” in ridding barns and properties of vermin. Barn Hunts are open to any dog, of (almost) any size, type or breed. In a Barn Hunt competition you can earn titles and placements at various levels and degrees of difficulty.

Barn Hunt with Ammo the Dachshund

At this Barn Hunt I met up with my Philadelphian gal pal Liebe, and we were both pretty excited to hunt for some rats! (Especially Liebe who is a city dog – and doesn’t get as many chances as me to hunt for vermin)

Barn Hunt with Ammo the Dachshund

At a Barn Hunt you are required to go through straw bale tunnels and climb over several bales to earn a qualifying mark – all while in pursuit of a rat.

Barn Hunt with Ammo the Dachshund

In the lower levels you are then met with various tubes, some of which contain rat bedding and one that contains an actual rat. Your goal as rat hunter extraordinare is to locate the rat and alert your mom or dad that you have found the correct tube containing it. Once found your mom/dad is responsible for telling the judge you have found the rat – in which case the time will stop (as long as you have completed the necessary requirements of completing tunnels and climbing straw bales too).

Barn Hunt with Ammo the Dachshund

As the day progressed I got better and better at finding my rats. I even began digging at the tubes and making lots of noise once I found the tubes that contained a rat.

Barn Hunt with Ammo the Dachshund

Mom said in the higher level classes I would even have to find multiple rats in one run – making sure to find them fast enough to not run over the time limit, many of which that are hidden under straw and in crevices. Sounds like a blast!

Barn Hunt with Ammo the Dachshund

Liebe (who is just over a year old) even had fun locating the rats and as she gets older I’m sure she’s going to be one ferocious rat hunter just like me!

Barn Hunt with Ammo the Dachshund

I had so much fun looking for my rats, that sitting on the sidelines while the other dogs had a turn was so hard!

Barn Hunt with Ammo the Dachshund

I can’t wait to return again and actually compete in this fun new sport – it’s totally my kind of competition!

You can learn more about the rules of Barn Hunt and find competitions and practices local to you HERE. Ammo the Dachshund

Lazy Farm Days

Lazy and Farm aren’t typically words that go together, but when the weather suddenly hits near 90 degrees in the Spring (when it was in the 40’s) it can get lazy on the farm pretty quick!

So here’s a little taste of what’s been going on around the farm lately:
