Ammo’s Lake School

Ammo's Lake School

It’s come to my attention that I may need to open my own Lake School. Until recently I didn’t realize how many dog’s I’ve mentored on their very first lake outing.

On the Lake with Friends // Ammo the Dachshund

First there was Shilah, who I introduced to the water and her first paddleboarding experience.

Then there was Maya, who had her first dip and also took to the paddle board under my supervision.

And then there was Hank! The latest victim trainee in Ammo’s Lake School.

Ammo's Lake School

Being that Hank is a Miniature GoldenDoodle (Golden Retriever/Poodle Mix), it didn’t take much convincing for me to get him into the water.

Ammo's Lake School

Just in case though I coached from the sidelines, ready to swim Hank to safety if need be.

Thankfully he was a natural!

Although when he emerged it became apparent that there really wasn’t much dog hiding under all that fur!

So I did what any good dog would do, I let him borrow one of my life vests*! No drowning dogs on my watch!

Swimming was one thing, but the true test of a lake dog is the boating. So we took to the docks for a boat adventure. Hank passed test number one with flying colors, making friends with the boat shop crew.

I led the expedition (as always) and things were going swimmingly for my pal Hank.

And after a dip overboard to cool off….

….Hank was officially a Lake Dog just like me!

Since Hank made my job super easy and passed my rigorous training with ease, it made it possible for me to divert my attention to victim trainee #2 of the day…

….Baby P!

After we mastered wearing the uncomfortable but necessary life vest* (thanks to some helpful cheerios that mom packed), I am happy to report that Baby P also mastered my Lake School and survived her very first boating adventure. (with very minimal crying I might add). Although she still has a ways to go in the doggie paddle department, but we’ll get there!

So what do you think, should I open up my own Lake School? Likely we’d need sailor hats (and a captain hat for me) with really cool logos. Good thing I know a great graphic designer! 🙂 Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

Rainy Days at the Lake

On those hot summer days one of my very favorite things to do is to visit the Marshcreek State Park – home to my favorite lake. But what about on those rainy summer days? Well, I still like to visit the lake!

The day started hot and sunny enough, so I packed up my life vest (and my pal Shilah the Husky) and headed out to the lake.

I was surprised to find that the water was warm, as in bathtub warm! So I had no hesitation in jumping right in!

Shilah had a bit more hesitation with the water, would you believe she’s never been to a lake before! Not to worry though, I was able to coax her right in.

Just as I was starting to get warmed up a huge storm came through and dampened my chance to hop on a boat rental!

But after waiting out the heaviest of rain, I wasn’t going to let it spoil my fun, and it was back in the water for Shilah and me!

I even took to some good old fashioned dog paddling, because I of course had to show off my mad swimming skills to my pal Shilah!

Sea Legs

Slowly but surely I’m earning my sea legs. You might remember I went on a boat outing a few months ago up in the Poconos. Well yesterday I went on another boat outing at Marsh Creek State Park.

On a 90+ degree day, it was the perfect weather to spend on the lake.

I have to admit I was so excited I did a little yelling. How can you not, when you’re on the open water!?

We did have a little “man overboard” incident…

I know what this looks like, but I swear I didn’t push him!

Dad probably should have been wearing his life vest.

Well, I’ve pretty much mastered this boating thing. Easy Peazy Lemon Squeezy! I think next time I might try my hand paw at windsurfing!

Over the River and Through the Woods…

Except this time I wasn’t going to grandma’s house! No, instead me and Trooper loaded into the family car and headed to the Pocono Mountains – to the family cabin!

Of course the first thing I did when I got there was run around like a maniac. Wouldn’t you?

After a few good laps, the next logical thing was to find dig a hole.

Only, I got a little carried away in my hole digging (I might need therapy) and before I knew it – I was stuck!

Don’t worry, everyone eventually dug me out – and mom reached in and pulled me to safety. I was a little muddy and tired – but that didn’t stop me from getting back in the hole TWO MORE TIMES (each complete with their own rescue mission). hehe.

Apparently after the third rescue everyone was getting a little tired of saving me (although I thought it was a blast) so I had to sit in time out in the cabin while mom barricaded the holes under the shed.

I promised not to do it again, so mom finally forgave me and let me outside to play with Trooper.

Look at me mom! I’m just like a dolphin!

And of course we HAD to take the row boat out onto the pond.

And to no one’s surprise, Trooper fell out within the first few minutes. I told him he should have worn a life vest (he sucks at swimming – even for a half Labrador).

So I gave Trooper a few pointers, and he actually started looking pretty good.

1..2..3..stroke. 1..2..3..stroke. 1..2..3..stroke.

I said use the towel Trooper!!

I think I see a tadpole!

After our boat ride I decided to give Trooper some more swimming lessons. “I said 10 more laps Trooper!”

Oh brother, he’s learned nothing!

This is just totally embarrassing for him. It’s the attack of the “Labra-dud” (you know, because he can’t swim). hehe.

Well, even though I got to run and play at the cabin while everyone else did “spring cleaning” – it was still an exhausting day!

This was fun and all, but when are we going home? There is a dog bed at my house that is calling my name!
