Summer Tubing with Ammo the Dachshund

A few weekends ago some of my family from out of town came for a visit. Since I’m always up for a fun adventure, I decided to show them a good time with a weekend excursion on the river!

Just down the road from the family farm is the Brandywine River, which is the perfect place to do some river tubing on a hot day!

Since this wasn’t my first tubing adventure I got pretty brave and performed some dare-devilish (I was Evel Knievel for Halloween after all) stunts on the tubes by balancing on the edge!

I wasn’t the only one enjoying the river that day either, we even found this adorable turtle taking a dip!

As the sun started to set over the river I decided to trade in my tube for a canoe since it was getting a little chilly in the water.

I love to navigate the waters and I always have to stand at the very tip of the canoe (so I get to see everything first), even if it means that I might occasionally fall overboard. Not to worry though, I’m a pretty good swimmer!

Eventually we decided to park the canoe so we could take a swim in the river, which is also where I got to perform my very first water rescue!

Ok technically no one was ever really drowning, but how was I supposed to know that? I’m a Super Hero trained to save people, and when you’re a teeny tiny dog like me everything looks dangerous!

Thankfully everyone survived the rope swing, and I made sure my entire family made it back into their rafts for the remainder of the trip home.

Well, that is until we hit a river road block! “Everyone stay with your flotation device, keep your hands inside the raft, and do not drown!”

Phew! River Tubing is stressful for a Super Hero!Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

Do you think your dog would attempt to save you if you were drowning? (Don’t worry, I’m sure they probably would….unless there was an alluring groundhog hole nearby of course!)

Beating the Heat – Canoeing down the Brandywine River

Last weekend I took an expedition down the Brandywine River via canoe. You may remember that I went on a similar adventure last summer.

This time it was a much bigger family affair as even my Uncle Taylor came too while he was up visiting from North Carolina.

Since we only have one canoe at the farm we had to make room for our extra passengers by adding some blow-up rafts and even a snow tube.

It ended up being quite the adventure with frequent pit-stops to re-pump said rafts, a couple of spider incidents (with one wolf spider hitching a ride on mom’s leg – I screamed – but she brushed it off like nothing happened), and a nest of ants and their babies threatening to eat us alive when we accidentally tipped the canoe – all of which we had a good laugh about later.

All in all it was the perfect way to spend a hot summer day!

So what do you do to beat the summer heat? I’m thinking for my next canoe trip I’ll have to bring along some pupsicles! Yum! Ammo the Dachshund

Canoeing down the Brandywine

After my big excursion to the Pocono mountains over the weekend I decided that I just couldn’t get enough of the water! So the next day me and Trooper decided to go for a canoe ride down the Brandywine River.

Believe it or not, this was my very first canoe ride! Trooper’s been a bunch of times without me (no fair), since the farm is within walking distance to the river.

Now I thought I liked boat rides, but canoeing is like loads of fun!

The best part about the canoeing, is that we got to stop and play in the water. Trooper even found a rope swing – which he attempted to swing on unsuccessfully. And I got to practice my underwater diving skills.

“Can we get back in the canoe? This is so much fun!”

In fact, I loved it so much, that mom let me climb to the VERY tippy top of the canoe. I was really feeling brave – so I DOVE off of the front and into the water for a swim. Seriously, I did that!

I had so much fun, that I’m already begging mom to take me back next weekend.

So, how about you? Any other canoeing dogs out there?
