The Eclectic Hound Martingale Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

My new friends over at The Eclectic Hound sent me over this adorable martingale collar to take for a spin.

The Eclectic Hound Martingale Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Now Martingale Collars are all the rage right now, but did you know that they were originally designed for sight hounds, such as greyhounds and whippets, whose heads are smaller than their necks and can easily slip out of traditional buckle collars.

The Eclectic Hound Martingale Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

The same can be true for Dachshunds and more and more trainers recently have been recommending them for dogs of all breeds and sizes because of their safety.

The Eclectic Hound Martingale Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Designed to slip over your dog’s head, this collar from the Eclectic Hound should then be adjusted so you can fit 1 -2 fingers between the collar and your dog’s neck.

The Eclectic Hound Martingale Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

The martingale loop, which functions by gently tightening around the dog’s neck when pressure is applied to the leash, makes it so your dog can’t back out of the collar.

The Eclectic Hound Martingale Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

The Eclectic Hound Shop has so many fun collar designs it can be hard to decide which one to get (or get them all!), but ultimately I chose this preppy alligator design, because I’m pretty sure it makes me look extra tough. Or preppy I guess depending on how you look at it!

The Eclectic Hound Martingale Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

So if you’d like your dog to look preppy and tough at the same time too, you can save 15% off your next purchase at The Eclectic Hound with code AMMO15.

Summer at the Pool

Summer at the Pool // Ammo the Dachshund

Hot summer days are always best spent by the pool, which is exactly where I headed last weekend!

Summer at the Pool // Ammo the Dachshund

I took some relaxing raft rides.

Summer at the Pool // Ammo the Dachshund

I even worked on my tan.

Summer at the Pool // Ammo the Dachshund

But what I was most excited for was to dig into this month’s Barkbox!

Mom took some great videos of me enjoying my Barkbox poolside, unfortunately the computer decided the videos looked way too yummy to share and ate them all! So instead I’ll have to share my pool adventures with you via photographs. Hopefully you won’t be as sad about it as I am.

Summer at the Pool // Ammo the Dachshund

So after digging into my Barkbox I decided to break open the Louisiana Crab Jerky, because everyone knows you have to eat crab when you lounge by the pool.

Summer at the Pool // Ammo the Dachshund

I even chowed down on these PetSafe Indigo Chews, which tasted just as yummy even though mom says they are supposed to boost my antioxidants and clean my teeth all at the same time!

Summer at the Pool // Ammo the Dachshund

In fact I was having so much fun with my Barkbox that I decided to take it out to sea with me. Dad may or may not have had to save me when I drifted a bit too far.

Summer at the Pool // Ammo the Dachshund

Sadly we had an incident on the water though, as Mr. Whale forgot to wear his life vest and took a tumble into the pool.

Summer at the Pool // Ammo the Dachshund

Not to worry though, I’m an expert life guard – and wasted no time in rushing to his rescue.

It helps if you listen to baywatch music while looking at this photograph.

I’m also great at mouth to mouth resuscitation….maybe with a nibble thrown in here or there for good measure!

Boy, who know pool day could be so exciting!

Easy DIY Spray Painted Dog Art

Easy DIY Spray Painted Dog Art // Ammo the Dachshund

As a lover of the arts (I do work in a frame shop after all), I decided it was high time I added to my own personal art collection. So I enlisted the help of my mom and came up with this fun and EASY DIY DOG ART tutorial!

Easy DIY Spray Painted Dog Art // Ammo the Dachshund

Supplies:

  • Bristol Paper
  • Painters Tape
  • Spray paint (in any colors you may like)
  • Dog shape – I used the drop out from one of my Dachshund Photo Mats, but you can also create your own dog shape by cutting it out of bristol paper or using the free one I have HERE)

Step 1: Using the painters tape cover a 1/2″ border around your bristol paper

Step 2: Tape your dog shape onto the center of the bristol paper

DoggieLawn Review & Giveaway

Disclaimer : This is a sponsored post and giveaway brought to you by DoggieLawn.

DoggieLawn Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Last week an interesting looking package arrived at the shop (aka my place of work).

DoggieLawn Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Upon popping the top, I was surprised to find a box of real grass! From my pals over at DoggieLawn, this “box of grass” is a convenient indoor potty system for your dog! With monthly subscription options, and several different sizes, this box of real grass is shipped to your door every month in a convenient disposable box for your dog to do it’s business on.

DoggieLawn Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

So mom popped it down in the shop and let me inspect my DoggieLawn.

DoggieLawn Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

It certainly smelled like real grass and weighs slightly more than half as much as standard sod for easy lifting. It’s also “soil-less” which means it contains none of the dirt you find in sod.

DoggieLawn Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

DoggieLawn recommends spritzing your grass with water every 1-2 days and picking up any solids your pet leaves behind until your new box arrives in the mail. Then simply toss the old one!

DoggieLawn Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

While I am a completely house trained dog and mom never used pee pads or any other indoor training device to house train me, I can see the benefit to using one of these boxes when training a puppy, for older dogs who can’t hold it, or for people who live in apartments.

DoggieLawn Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Since the idea of doing my business indoors is quite foreign to me, I didn’t quite grasp the concept of using the box to go to the bathroom. But even if your dog doesn’t take to the box right away DoggieLawn offers free training support. They also have the ability to add a pheromone scent to your box (so that it will smell like dog urine and your dog may be more inclined to use it) – or you can even add some of your own dog’s urine to it. Which for me I think might be the trick to training me to use it, because who wants another dog’s urine in their box of grass….gotta cover that stink up!

DoggieLawn Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

So instead of using my DoggieLawn as a potty, for the time being I found it quite useful as a napping spot!

DoggieLawn Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

After all, I’d rather be outside than in….so while I’m stuck at work all day, why not bring a little of the outdoors in!

DoggieLawn Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

I’m definitely going to keep DoggieLawn on my list of items that may be useful as I age (although mom says I’m not ever allowed to get old), because indoor potty grass sounds like the perfect thing to help you “age gracefully”, if you know what I mean!

You can use code ammo3 for $3 off your DoggieLawn order!

Scrub-A-Dub-Dub, Weenie in a Tub

Scrub-A-Dub-Dub, Weenie in a Tub // Ammo the Dachshund

When you spend a lot of your time on a horse farm it’s inevitable that you’ll find yourself in the tub more often than not.

Scrub-A-Dub-Dub, Weenie in a Tub // Ammo the Dachshund

Bath time rituals become pretty common for me as I’m used to hearing things around the house like “what’s that smell?”, “what did you roll in this time?”, or my favorite “The smell is horrible!”.

Scrub-A-Dub-Dub, Weenie in a Tub // Ammo the Dachshund

While my patented weenie stench is not something all members of my household enjoy (what do you mean you don’t like the smell of soggy worms and horse poop?), I can say that sometimes I do enjoy the benefits of a good bath.

Scrub-A-Dub-Dub, Weenie in a Tub // Ammo the Dachshund

Not only does my after bath aroma warrant extra cuddles and the praises of “you’re so soft” and “you smell like sunshine”, but…

Scrub-A-Dub-Dub, Weenie in a Tub // Ammo the Dachshund

….I find that afterwards my pleading eyes for more cookies mom, are almost always met with – “of course you can have another cookie, because you’re so clean and sweet!”

Stink Happens // Dirty Dog // Ammo the Dachshund

Guess I’ll just have to start stinking up the place a little more often if I want those after bath cookiesAmmo the Dachshund

Swimming Dogs and Ponies at the Lake

Swimming Dogs and Ponies at the Lake // Ammo the Dachshund

It’s no secret that I love spending time at the lake during the summer.

Swimming Dogs and Ponies at the Lake // Ammo the Dachshund

But did you know that my pony friends from the farm also enjoy relaxing at the lake on hot summer days?

Swimming Dogs and Ponies at the Lake // Ammo the Dachshund

Swimming Dogs and Ponies at the Lake // Ammo the Dachshund

While I’ve been to the lake with my ponies many times before, this time I decided to find out what it was like to swim with them! My favorite pony Minnow offered up his back to take me for a swim around the lake.

Swimming Dogs and Ponies at the Lake // Ammo the Dachshund

Swimming Dogs and Ponies at the Lake // Ammo the Dachshund

And since ponies don’t come equipped with seat belts, mom had to come along too to make sure I didn’t accidentally fall in (not to worry though, I wore my life vest at all times too).

Swimming Dogs and Ponies at the Lake // Ammo the Dachshund

Swimming Dogs and Ponies at the Lake // Ammo the Dachshund

My pal Minnow is actually a Chincoteague Pony and he was born wild on the Island of Assateague. Which if you know the story of the Chincoteague Ponies, then you may know that as a young pony Minnow made the swim across the Chincoteague Channel during Pony Penning Week when he was just a young foal. So if anyone knows how to swim, it’s my pal Minnow.

And I have to say, swimming on the back of a pony is a heck of a lot easier than swimming in the lake on your own. I think it’s going to have to be my preferred method of transportation on the lake from now on!

So thanks Minnow, for taking me on my maiden pony swimming voyage! I hope to have many more in my future! Ammo the Dachshund

Blanket Dog Bed Review & Giveaway

Blanket Dog Bed Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Recently my new friends over at the Etsy Shop, I Brake For Yard Sales, sent me one of their handmade Blanket Dog Beds to take for a spin.

Blanket Dog Bed Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

What makes this bed a little different than your average dog bed is that it has a super soft and snuggly blanket attached to the handmade wooden frame so that your dog can dig around and get extra comfy (or burrow to their hearts content!).

Blanket Dog Bed Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

And not to worry, the fleece blanket easily unsnaps from the wood frame so you can wash it should your pup decide to go to bed with muddy paws! It even comes in lots of fun colors (I opted for the Gray).

Blanket Dog Bed Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

It comes in two different sizes for the big and small dogs (but custom sizes are available by request) – I enjoyed lounging in this 17″ x 19″ x 6″ bed.

And since I’m an expert digger and burrower, I figured I’d show you just how “bed fluffing” is really done….

New York or Bust

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

Over the 4th of July weekend I packed up my ponies and headed north 5 hours to New York!

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

After so many pit-stops I was fully expecting to end up in the big apple, but instead I ended up in the middle of nowhere at a horse campground!

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

I unpacked my ponies and tucked them in for the night….

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

…and pitched my tent for yet another fun weekend of camping!

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

I may or may not have hogged all the sleeping bags in the night. At least I was comfy!

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

When I awoke the next morning it became apparent that my ponies had made the long journey to New York to compete on a dog agility course! (at least that’s what it looked like to me)

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

It had a teeter totter….

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

…and some sort of porcupine looking things…

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

…and chickens? Ok well maybe it was the advanced dog agility course, which would explain why I’ve never seen any of these obstacles at my training classes.

Regardless my ponies were super brave and attempted each and every one of these challenging obstacles over the weekend!

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

I had a relaxing weekend watching them perform from the comfort of my favorite seat in the car. I even had my portable fan going to keep me cool.

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

I even got to pack in some tanning during my weekend in New York. And before I knew it we were on the road again headed back home to Pennsylvania.

New York of Bust // Ammo the Dachshund

And the good news is, we only got one flat tire on the way home! (not to worry, I’m an expert at changing tires).

What sort of adventures did your dog have over the 4th of July weekend? Ammo the Dachshund

Check out some more photos from my weekend adventure on the Painting Pony Blog.
