Imagination Hat – Under the Sea

As you may already know, I’m on an imagination adventure while my pal Minnow the Painting Pony is performing at Pony Penning all week with my mom. Yesterday I went to outer space and today I’m on a journey Under the Sea!

Imagination Hat - Ammo the Dachshund - Under the Sea

I made sure to pack my flippers, and it’s a good thing I’m an excellent swimmer because I’m deep deep under the sea.

Imagination Hat - Ammo the Dachshund - Under the Sea

I haven’t seen any sharks yet, but if you spot any I hope you’ll warn me!

Just to be safe I rolled in the stinkiest thing I could find before going Under the Sea – so that I’ll be extra un-enticing to any sharks that come along. I hope. Ammo the Dachshund

Imagination Hat

Today is the day that mom and my pal Minnow the Painting Pony left for Chincoteague Island, Virginia for a week. I’m very sad not to be going on this adventure with them – as it’s been an entire year since I’ve been away from my mom for more than a day.

Ammo the Dachshund - Imagination Hat

Last year when Mom and Minnow left for pony penning week I killed the time by building a super awesome fort in my basement.

This year I decided to try a little something different – since just because I’m stuck home alone all day while Dad is at work doesn’t mean I can’t still go on some adventures of my own.

Ammo the Dachshund - Imagination Hat

Enter my imagination hat! Hand-made by my pal Baxter’s Mom, I just know my imagination hat is going to take me on tons of adventures this week. (you can fetch your own imagination hat here)

Ammo the Dachshund - Imagination Hat

I hope you’ll come along with me for the ride, because imagination adventures are always more fun when you have friends.

Hopefully by the time Minnow returns from pony penning I’ll have just as many adventures to share with him as he does with me! Ammo the Dachshund

Product Review: Outward Hound Life Vest for Dogs

You might remember that a couple of weeks ago mom purchased me a life vest from amazon just in time for my paddleboarding adventure.

Stand Up Paddleboarding with your Dog - via Ammo the Dachshund

Seeing as how some of my fans may be in the market for a life vest as well I thought I’d give you all a little rundown of how I’m liking it so far.

Stand Up Paddleboarding with your Dog - via Ammo the Dachshund

Product – Kyjen Outward Hound Life Jacket

Features:

  • Convenient top grab handle for easy resuce by hand or boat hook
  • Front float assists in keeping dog’s head above water

Stand Up Paddleboarding with your Dog - via Ammo the Dachshund

Pros:

  • Definitely helps keep me afloat much better
  • Handle makes it easy for mom or dad to rescue me out of the water
  • Front float helps keep my head above the water – which is a bonus because I hate getting water in my ears
  • It’s comfortable to wear
  • Bright color makes it easy to spot me floating in the water
  • Budget friendly price

Stand Up Paddleboarding with your Dog - via Ammo the Dachshund

Cons:

  • Sizes run smaller then the chart online – so a small is a bit too small for me and I probably should have ordered the medium. So when in doubt choose the next size up
  • Doesn’t have a d-ring attachment for a leash

Overall I’m very happy with my new vest, I definitely feel safer and enjoy swimming a lot more, I just wish I had gotten the medium so it fits me a little better.

You can fetch your own doggie life vest from amazon for about $20 Ammo the Dachshund

I was not paid or perked to write this review, product was fully purchased (thanks mom) – links do connect to my affiliate amazon shop.

Ammo the Movie Star is Here!

Ammo the Dachshund - Painting Pony Video Shoot - Filming

Ok, so maybe I won’t really be seeing my name on a star in Hollywood (a dog can dream) – but in the World of Magical Painting Ponies, I am a movie star! (and technically I have been on National Television before via Animal Planet – check it out here)

Ammo the Dachshund - Painting Pony Video Shoot - Filming

Last week my Uncle Taylor came to visit from his home in North Carolina. Taylor is an uber talented videographer and editor – shooting weddings, commercials, documentaries, training videos, and much much more. And guess what…..he brought his video equipment with him!

4th of July at the Fair

Yeah, so it’s been nearly 2 weeks, but I realized that I completely forgot to share my adventures from the 4th of July! I guess I’ve been so busy having fun that I just plain forgot. Well, better late than never – so here’s how it all went down….

I spent a good portion of my day on the 4th at the Downingtown Good Neighbor Day in town.

I oohed and ahhed over all the giant stuffies just begging to be de-stuffed that were hanging around.

I also may have pouted a bit when mom said it was way too hot (and I was too little) to go on any rides.

I got over it pretty quick though when we started to walk around through the craft venders and I got to meet some new friends.

And don’t get me started on the food! Is it just me or is fair food just so delish? There were so many choices I just didn’t know what to get.

Mom and I ended up sharing some chicken on a stick, and we were so glad we did – because it’s the best chicken we’ve ever had! Later we even got some funnel cake.

The nice thing about Downingtown Good Neighbor Day is that it’s right along the Brandywine River, which means I got to take a dip in the river to cool off – which was perfect on this hot hot summer day.

After spending such a nice afternoon at the fair I headed over to MomMom and PopPop’s house for a cookout and swim.

Adventures completed, and a belly full of yummy food -I can safely say it was one of my favorite days! What fun things did you do to celebrate on the 4th? Ammo the Dachshund

Beating the Heat – Canoeing down the Brandywine River

Last weekend I took an expedition down the Brandywine River via canoe. You may remember that I went on a similar adventure last summer.

Ammo the Dachshund - Canoeing down the Brandywine River

This time it was a much bigger family affair as even my Uncle Taylor came too while he was up visiting from North Carolina.

Ammo the Dachshund - Canoeing down the Brandywine River

Since we only have one canoe at the farm we had to make room for our extra passengers by adding some blow-up rafts and even a snow tube.

Ammo the Dachshund - Canoeing down the Brandywine River

It ended up being quite the adventure with frequent pit-stops to re-pump said rafts, a couple of spider incidents (with one wolf spider hitching a ride on mom’s leg – I screamed – but she brushed it off like nothing happened), and a nest of ants and their babies threatening to eat us alive when we accidentally tipped the canoe – all of which we had a good laugh about later.

All in all it was the perfect way to spend a hot summer day!

So what do you do to beat the summer heat? I’m thinking for my next canoe trip I’ll have to bring along some pupsicles! Yum! Ammo the Dachshund

Friday Fetch: Pet First Aid Kits

This week I got stung by a bee! I know the horror! My mom noticed pretty quickly that I had been stung because I stopped barking at a deer in my backyard to lick my leg. After a few minutes my leg started to swell a bit – and then about an hour later I started to get some swelling under my eye and on my nose. So at 9:30pm my dad rushed off to the pharmacy to get me some benedryl, and after eating 1/2 a tablet and sleeping it off, I woke up in the morning feeling much better.

After my little bee sting incident it got me thinking about being safe – and keeping a pet first aid kit with me in the car and at home just in case anything were to happen.

So I decided to do a little Friday Fetch round-up today of some of my favorite pet first aid kits out there.

Practicing Contacts on the A-Frame at Agility Class

Last week I had my regularly scheduled dog agility classes at DTCCC, only this time was special because my dad was home from work so he got to come watch me!

Ammo the Dachshund at Agility class

Of course I was super excited to show dad all the things I’ve been learning in class – and I went so fast that he could barely capture it on camera!

Ammo the Dachshund at Agility class

One of the things I have been learning at class is my agility contacts. Contacts in dog agility refer to a specific contact zone at the base of an object (like the A-frame, teeter, dog walk) that you must place a paw in during competition in order for it to count. Most of these contact zones are marked by a yellow strip at the base of an obstacle.

Being that I’m a small dog it is much easier for me to not miss a contact (because I’m not big enough to soar over it), but it is still best to learn how to do each object properly by entering and exiting it at the very base.

Below is a short video from class that dad took of me working on my contacts with the a-frame. You’ll see that I have a verbal cue (“mark”) that mom gives me as I approach the base of the a-frame, this cues me to pause at the bottom of the board until I get the ok to move forward. As I progress in my training my “mark” won’t be as obvious as I race around the course.

Looks pretty fun right?

Here’s some pervious posts from my adventures in agility training incase you missed it:

Super Heroes Unite – Chincoteague Pony Minnow gets ready for Pony Penning

My stay-cation last week may have you thinking that all I did was go paddleboarding and flying, but this super dog never gets to relax completely – and I had to mix in a little bit of work too (if you can call it that).

My bestest pony friend Minnow the Painting Pony and I got our photoshoot on and took some promotional photos for this year’s Chincoteague Pony Penning held at the end of July.

Ammo the Dachshund Super Hero and his Super Hero Pony

Each year my friend Minnow (aka Super Minnow) travels to Chincoteague Island, Virginia to perform for a week during the annual Chincoteague Pony Swim and Auction.

Not only does he paint original art during his stay on the island, but he also gets to show off some of his amazing tricks by performing a skit during the nightly shows at the Chincoteague Pony Centre.

Ammo the Dachshund Super Hero and his Super Hero Pony

Mom and I work very hard for months in advance to help Minnow learn a new performance each year before pony penning – and I think this year’s performance is one of the best yet!

Ammo the Dachshund Super Hero and his Super Hero Pony

This year Minnow is going to Super Hero Bootcamp – and as you can see by his rolly polly belly that he certainly was in need of a bootcamp!

Ammo the Dachshund Super Hero and his Super Hero Pony

The only way to see Minnow’s new performance is to visit him on the island at the end of July, but since I knew not everyone would make it I talked mom into having a new DVD made of the performance that will be available for purchase hopefully next month. (meanwhile you can check out Minnow’s other DVD featuring yours truly HERE).

Ammo the Dachshund Super Hero and his Super Hero Pony

I’m a bit jealous that I won’t be able to watch Minnow’s performance live either, as dogs aren’t allowed many places on the island and I have to stay home with Dad, so I’ll just have to wish him luck from afar.

Ammo the Dachshund Super Hero and his Super Hero Pony

It’s a shame really, because what’s a Super Hero without his sidekick?

I’m sure Minnow knows I’m his biggest fan though, and I’ll be cheering him on from home! Go Minnow!Ammo the Dachshund
