When Outdoor Adventures Need to Be Contained

This is the view from the family farmhouse. What you can’t see though, is me, past the garden, past the pasture, past the horses, and in the neighbor’s vineyard…I’m there.

When Outdoor Adventures Need to Be Contained

See me now?

When Outdoor Adventures Need to Be Contained

While it may look like I’m not doing anything too important, I’m actually doing a very important job….hunting groundhogs. See I can find a hole where no one else can, and I have no problem staking out a spot and sitting there for hours on end just waiting to catch myself a big juicy groundhog. Never mind that I’ve never actually caught one (but I have come close), but just you wait one of these days I WILL catch one!

Rescue on the Farm

While for the most part my family indulges me and lets me have free run of the farm to hunt the groundhogs as I wish, sometimes they need a break from chasing after me.

When I’m on the hunt I won’t come back for anything, not for dinner, not for water, not even to rest. That’s how dedicated I am to this life mission of mine.

When Outdoor Adventures Need to Be Contained

This is also why I always wear a GPS tracker (so mom can find me quicker), and ultimately it usually leads to me being contained at some point in the day. If not only so mom can make sure I’m taking a rest and getting plenty of water.

When Outdoor Adventures Need to Be Contained

Recently they installed this outdoor pet gate from Carlson Pet Products on the back deck so that when I was “rescued” from my holes I could still hang out and enjoy the fresh air without having to be locked inside the house. Our outdoor gate is made with an all-steel construction, and can withstand the elements year round!

When Outdoor Adventures Need to Be Contained

While my good pal Trooper doesn’t seem to have the same hunting desire I do, he still tends to keep me company when I’m on lockdown…..that’s what good friends do!

When Outdoor Adventures Need to Be Contained

Our new outdoor gate makes it easy for the humans to come and go, but Trooper and I are stuck on the inside for the long haul. At least we have a view!

When Outdoor Adventures Need to Be Contained

Now if Trooper could just figure out how to open the tiny pet door for me I’d surely be able to dash away towards my holes again.

When Outdoor Adventures Need to Be Contained

Too bad for him he’s much too big to fit through the opening anyway. Better luck next time pal!

Be sure to check out all the awesome gates and more at Carlson Pet Products. They have something for every one of your pet containment needs.Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

Containing All Your Friends

Disclaimer: This post is brought to you by Carlson Pet Products. All opinions are my own, and I only share products I think you and your pets will love!

Containing All Your Friends

A few weeks ago my friends from the south, Scout and Sharkie, came for a visit. Trooper and I always love when we can get the whole gang together.

Containing All Your Friends

The thing about my friends from the south though is that they’re really good at being “beach dogs”, but they don’t know a lot about being “farm dogs”.

Simple Pleasures with Ammo the Dachshund

While there are lots of rules about being on a farm that I won’t get into now, the most important one is to never ever ever get close to a horses’ hooves. Those things can break little puppy toes, and kick you in an instant – something Trooper and I are well aware of and make sure to always be on our most cautious behavior when mingling around the ponies.

Now my friends Scout and Sharkie, well, they never really learned this rule. So after chasing a few horses, and a couple of close calls it was deemed that they were not to be trusted around the ponies. (better safe than sorry!)

Containing All Your Friends

Thankfully my friends at Carlson Pet Products had just the thing to give everyone on the farm peace of mind with their indoor pet containment gates.

Containing All Your Friends

Their Design Paw Auto Close Pet Gate kept everyone from sneaking down the basement steps in search of any doors to the outside world that may have been left open.

Mom’s favorite part was the auto-close feature, so when her hands were full she could just push the gate shut and no dogs could squeeze through.

Containing All Your Friends

Sharkie and I had our own favorite part…

Containing All Your Friends

…the small pet door so that we could have our own secret “little dog” adventures without those big dogs tagging along!

Containing All Your Friends

While it’s true that my pals from the south weren’t very “pony savvy”, there was also another new thing with a whole set of rules (that I also won’t get into), that my friends weren’t accustomed to.

Containing All Your Friends

While the humans all seemed to think the Carlson Free Standing Pet Gate was keeping all the dogs from jumping on, licking, or playing too roughly with Baby P….us dogs know that it was really keeping Baby P from pulling fur, pinching, and jumping on unsuspecting dogs!

Containing All Your Friends

Regardless of the reason, this gate floated all around the farmhouse while my friends were in town since it was so easily portable because it required no holes in the wall or pressure points and could easily expand from 40″ – 70″!

Containing All Your Friends

My visit with my friends from the South was far too short, and I was sad to see them go. But I was also very thankful that they made it to the end of their stay with no wounds, missing fur, or broken bones from the very dangerous ponies and babies on the farm – all thanks to Carlson Pet Products!

Containing All Your Friends

I sent Scout home with a list of rules to work on for the next time she visits. #1 being – do not ever ever try to sniff a ponies’ rump! And #2 being – pony poop is a delicacy that can be found in the manure pile, not in a stall where a pony is still standing!

We have a lot to work on before the next visit! Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

Life Lesson Number One

Now that I’m a big brother it’s my duty to teach Baby P all the important stuff. #1 on the life lesson list, how to dig a proper hole.

Rescue on the Farm

As you can see, Baby P was super excited to learn this life lesson. That’s my girl, she totally gets it. You just never know when you’re going to need to dig something, so always come prepared with those two little shovels on the bottom of your arms!

Dirt filled baths, and dirty finger nails are totally in our future.

Rescue on the Farm

Up next, how to navigate to the critters in the woods. We’ve got a whole lot of life lessons to get through this summer, so we better get started!

How the Trax GPS Tracker Can Make Life Easier

Disclaimer: This post is an advertisement. All opinions are my own, and I only share products with my readers that I think you and your pets will love!

On The Move - Keep Tabs on all the "kids" - Trax GPS

With every day that passes my little sister becomes more and more mobile.

How the Trax GPS Tracker Can Make Life Easier

While she may technically be moving she’s not exactly great at the whole “mobile” thing yet….especially the backing up part! Which means mom has to keep her eyes glued to Baby P pretty much all the time.

How the Trax GPS Tracker Can Make Life Easier

Now I’m a good dog 90% of the time (hey, we can’t all be perfect), and that other 10%….well, I sort of like to push the boundaries a little bit. What can I say, I am a stubborn DACHSHUND!

How the Trax GPS Tracker Can Make Life Easier

Mainly though, I just like to run (well and hunt, and dig, and roll in stinky stuff….but that’s a story for another day). So when mom has eyes on Baby P, she can’t keep tabs on me too – especially when I’m enjoying my time out on the farm.

How the Trax GPS Tracker Can Make Life Easier

Lucky for my mom she has had a secret weapon for many years now, the Trax GPS Tracker for Pets. While you might remember me mentioning Trax before, this time I got to take the newer Trax Play for a spin. Being the World’s smallest and lightest live GPS tracker on the market, it’s perfectly sized for a little dog like me!

How the Trax GPS Tracker Can Make Life Easier

Mom breathes a little easier when I’m wearing my Trax Play because she can worry more about making sure my sister doesn’t drive off a cliff, and less about where I’m wandering. Moms…..they are always worrying about their “kids”!

How the Trax GPS Tracker Can Make Life Easier

While I’ve tried many GPS trackers over the years, one of the main reasons my family keeps coming back to Trax as their favorite is because of the ability to add multiple custom geo-fences.

How the Trax GPS Tracker Can Make Life Easier

Geo-fences are basically “safe areas” that your pet can be, but should I wander too far and leave the geo-fence then mom gets a text alert on her phone to let her know I left the vicinity. Most of the other Pet GPS Trackers out there only allow you to create circular radiuses and only one per unit, but with Trax you can really be custom about your pet’s safe area.

How the Trax GPS Tracker Can Make Life Easier

How the Trax GPS Tracker Can Make Life Easier

Another cool feature is the augmented reality, where you can use your phone’s camera to locate your pet. When you point the camera in your dogs direction, an icon, with a distance indicator, will guide you to their location. Pretty cool, even if it does give away all of my secret ground hog hole locations!

How the Trax GPS Tracker Can Make Life Easier

Battery life in the new Trax Play is new and improved too, lasting up to 3 days on one charge! The only thing that would make Trax even better in mom’s eyes is if they added a sound locater (then I wouldn’t have to wear my annoying bells on the farm!).

You can learn more about all the features of the Trax Play on their website.

How the Trax GPS Tracker Can Make Life Easier

You can shop Trax Play which is available with a data plan for as low as $4.00/month – which is much lower than many comparable products on the market. Another reason why we love them!

And what’s even better is you can use code ammo10 for 10% off your purchase! Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

*Please note a data plan is necessary in order to use the Trax Play device.

No Big Woof

No Big Woof

Just yesterday mom snapped this photo of me while Dad was working on a project at the shop. Some may be surprised that I was able to nap through a power drill right by my bed, but there is a really good reason as to why this sort of thing doesn’t bother me. See, my mom and dad are artists and DIYers, which means that power tools are pretty much NO BIG WOOF to me anymore.

All Up In It

All Up In It

Holy Cow. You’re never gonna guess what showed up on the farm the other day. My eyes caught sight of it, and I could just hardly contain my excitement. It was….

All Up In It

….a GIANT, fantastic, amazing pile of screenings!

All Up In It

Of course I wasted no time at all getting ALL UP IN IT, because there really is only one thing you can do when a big pile of screenings shows up at your doorstep….

All Up In It

…Conquer that mountain like nobody’s business.

Well and maybe dig a hole or two as well…

A Holiday Weekend

Over the 4th of July Weekend mom and I took a little extra time off from working at the shop. I work pretty hard, and it’s nice to take a break sometimes to unwind and have some fun. Of course my family’s idea of fun is squeezing in as many adventures as possible – so I made sure to do a little bit of everything over the weekend!

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

I kicked things off with a campfire in the backyard. Because it wouldn’t be the 4th without a good old fashioned weenie roast. (don’t worry….actual dachshund wasn’t on the menu)

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

Then it was time for a Saturday morning breakfast out in town, followed by catching a game of little league baseball. After all I gotta get practicing my team coaching skills for when my little sister gets here and is ready to join a sports team!

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

Then it was time to celebrate a very special ladies’ 92 Birthday! I loved getting to celebrate my Super MomMom’s B-day with the family.

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

Family makes everything more fun!

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

Of course it wouldn’t be a “vacation” if I didn’t do some laps around the farm.

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

Just enough to warrant a 3 hour nap of course!

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

I even got to check out a hot air balloon launch. It was pretty cool, but I’m pretty happy just watching from the ground….that fire looked terrifying!

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

While I’m not a huge fan of fireworks (I alternate between hiding in the basement, and barking my head off at them in anger….can’t make up my mind if I’m scared or just pissed really), I did track down some of “nature’s fireworks” with a sunset trip to the lake. Nothing better.

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

4th of July was finally here and I couldn’t miss the celebration in town. Good food and family fun, a perfect way to celebrate America!

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

Then it’s off to the farm again to track down some groundhogs.

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

Well, and maybe do a farm chore or two too!

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

And to end the perfect holiday weekend, a cookout of epic proportions….where corn on the cob is necessary for a small dachshund’s survival. (well at least thats what I would have my family think…..and you better not tell them otherwise!)

I’m pretty sure after this weekend I’m going to need to sleep for an entire week. What sort of fun did your pups get into? Any other dogs out there can’t make up their mind about how they feel about fireworks? Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity
