Kong Premium Treats Product Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

You might remember that a couple of months ago I got to test out the new line of Kong Premium Treats, which were oh so yummy. Well now they have released a new batch of goodies, and of course I couldn’t wait to get my paws on them too!

Kong Premium Treats Product Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Kong Pumpkin Stix

  • No Wheat, Corn or Soy
  • No Animal By-Products
  • No Harmful Preservatives or Colorants
  • Contains Vitamins and Minerals

These treats were soft, and great for stuffing into one of the kong toys I already owned. I think the Pumpkin Stix were my favorite of the Kong Premium Treats that I got to test out.

Kong American Chicken Tenders

  • Made in USA
  • All Natural
  • No Fillers
  • No Additives

These were a tougher chew that was much larger – but that didn’t stop me from chowing down!

Kong Double Rawhide Chews

  • 100% U.S. Beef Hide (Processed in Mexico)
  • No Harmful Preservatives
  • Helps Clean Teeth and Freshen Breath
  • Great Tasting and Long Lasting

These rawhide chews were definitely longer lasting, so if you have a dog that you need to keep occupied, then these are the treats for you. They might be better suited for a larger dog though, and always make sure you supervise your dog when giving them rawhides as they can sometimes be a choking hazard.

Below is a video of Trooper and I chowing down on these delicious Kong Premium Treats. Being taste testers is the best!

And now for your chance to do your very own taste test!

Caramel Apples and Goats

With fall rolling in I took my first annual trip of the season to Highland Orchards.

Caramel Apples and Goats // Ammo the Dachshund

Caramel Apples and Goats // Ammo the Dachshund

I love sniffing the goats at the orchard, but truth be told, I’m quite happy that there is a fence between us at all times. Safety first!

Caramel Apples and Goats // Ammo the Dachshund

But the real treat this time was that mom’s first cousin once removed (whatever that means) tagged along with us.

Caramel Apples and Goats // Ammo the Dachshund

Kids are good for one thing in a dog’s world…..and that’s dropping food!

Caramel Apples and Goats // Ammo the Dachshund

You can bet I warned Mr. Goat that any food dropped was mine, and mine alone. Don’t worry though, I was very friendly and wagged my tail when I told him. I’m pretty sure he got the message.

When Dogs run Horse Shows

On the Obstacle Course // Ammo the Dachshund

Over the weekend I found myself on an obstacle course at the family farm. Designed to test the horseback riders’ ability to navigate a scary and complex course, I was excited to see how what kind of reaction my obstacles would produce.

When it became clear that not much seemed to worry these horse and rider pairs, I tried to up the anti by enlisting the help of a few groundhogs I know. Unfortunately they weren’t home at the time.

With the competition fierce I employed one last tactic…..creating an obstacle of my own!

Best Friends

Best Friends // Ammo the Dachshund and Trooper

I have a best friend, and his name is Trooper.

Best Friends // Ammo the Dachshund and Trooper

He’s silly and fun, and always knows how to have a good time. Plus he’s so much fun to wrestle with!

Best Friends // Ammo the Dachshund and Trooper

He’s great at keeping secrets, even if I’m not so great at keeping them.

We’re different, but the same, and I couldn’t be happier to have a best friend to grow old with.Ammo the Dachshund

P.S. Thanks to Mattie & Margot for sending along some matching best friend collars for me and my pal Trooper! Because best friends should always look stylish together!

The End of Summer

The Dog Pack

The Dog Pack // Ammo the Dachshund

Did you know that I’m a member of a dog pack? My pack consists of a whole menagerie of dogs!

The Dog Pack // Ammo the Dachshund

There’s Bella the Great Pyrenees and my pal Trooper the Australian Shepherd/Labrador Mix.

The Dog Pack // Ammo the Dachshund

And Raisin the Great Pyrenees mix (on the right).

The Dog Pack // Ammo the Dachshund

And then theirs Jack, the Yorkshire Terrier.

The Dog Pack // Ammo the Dachshund

Jack, being the smallest dog in our dog pack is the ring leader (of course the small dogs always rule the roost)!

The Dog Pack // Ammo the Dachshund

But when you get to know Jack, he’s really just a big softie! Aren’t they all!

Stonework

Stonework // Ammo the Dachshund

When I arrived at the farm the other day it seemed that something was a bit different.

Stonework // Ammo the Dachshund

Upon further inspection it seems that the workers had come and started on the stonework for Trooper’s new farmhouse.

Stonework // Ammo the Dachshund

I was a bit perplexed as to why the workers had started without me.

Stonework // Ammo the Dachshund

I mean really, just look at my strong muscles – I could easily lift those stones!

Stonework // Ammo the Dachshund

I decided to check out the work site, just incase there was any lingering work that I could pitch in and do.

Stonework // Ammo the Dachshund

Ok fine, I really just wanted to make sure that the crew didn’t leave any cookies laying around.

Stonework // Ammo the Dachshund

Stonework // Ammo the Dachshund

Sadly, no cookies were to be found. I mean what kind of work site is this anyway?

Stonework // Ammo the Dachshund

But I did find a whole pile of stones that still need to be installed, so I’m pretty sure the crew will be calling me to help soon! I’ll offer to bring the cookies.Ammo the Dachshund

Product Review: Ruffwear’s Swamp Cooler

Disclaimer: This review is brought to you by Ruffwear.

Lets face it, Summer is HOT! And when you’re a dog who’s covered in fur it can feel even hotter. So when I came across the Swamp Cooler Vest for dogs from Ruffwear it sounded like a great solution to keep us dogs cool in the heat. So when Ruffwear offered me up the chance to take their redesigned Swamp Cooler for a spin I decided to let my best friend Trooper test this one out. Trooper likes to tag along on the trail with the horses, but the summer (and his extra thick coat of hair) sometimes makes it just too hot for him to do so.

Product Review: Ruffwear Swamp Cooler // Ammo the Dachshund

How does it work?  Simply soak the vest with water, wring it out and put it on your dog! The evaporative cooling process will move heat away and bring cool moist air towards your dog.

Swamp Cooler from Ruffwear // Ammo the Dachshund

The Swamp Cooler was redesigned this year with three distinct functional layers. The outer layer blocks the sun, and is highly breathable to assist in the evaporative process and keep air moving through the vest to cool the inner layers. The middle layer is the absorbent layer that holds the water after you soak it. And the comfortable inner mesh layer wicks water from the mid-layer to the dog’s body keeping them cool.

On an average day tagging along with the horses at the farm this is what Trooper looks like in the summer:

So when the Swamp Cooler arrived I was anxious to see if it kept my working buddy any cooler!

Product Review: Ruffwear Swamp Cooler // Ammo the Dachshund

We started off by hosing the vest and wringing it out before strapping it onto Trooper.

Product Review: Ruffwear Swamp Cooler // Ammo the Dachshund

Trooper is wearing the size medium, which fit him perfectly. I’d be curious if some of the smaller sizes would work on Dachshunds or not – our never ending quest to find products that accommodate our big chests and long backs can sometimes be a bit difficult.

Product Review: Ruffwear Swamp Cooler // Ammo the Dachshund

I then gave Trooper strict instructions to run his little heart out after those ponies and report back to me if it kept him any cooler. I on the other hand hung back to guard the farm because my short little legs just aren’t made for keeping up on the trail!

Product Review: Ruffwear Swamp Cooler // Ammo the Dachshund

Then off Trooper went with my ponies, wagging his little stubby tail the whole way!

Product Review: Ruffwear Swamp Cooler // Ammo the Dachshund

When Trooper returned back to the farm he reported feeling much cooler. His tongue wasn’t hanging out as much, and it took him much less time to slow his heart rate back down. We both agree that this vest would be great to taking on the hiking trail, summer walks, or even just wearing outside in the backyard in hot weather – especially for dogs that work hard or have a thicker coat. The cooling features of this vest seem to last about an hour before it needs to be re-wet again, but as long as you bring a water bottle with you (or stop at a creek like Trooper sometimes does on his trail rides), you will always have a method of making it cool again for your dog.

Swamp Cooler from Ruffwear // Ammo the Dachshund

Trooper and I highly recommend this product and hopefully you will be fetching your own Swamp Cooler from Ruffwear soon!

Instinct Rawboost Treats Product Review and Giveaway from Chewy.com

Disclaimer: This review and giveaway is brought to you by Chewy.

My pals over at Chewy.com recently offered me the chance to test out some of Nature’s Variety Instinct Rawboost Minis Treats in the chicken flavor. I’ve secretly always wondered what eating raw was like – as it seems to have become a trend within the dog community – and trying out these raw treats seemed like a great way to jump into it.

Instinct Rawboost Treats // Product Review and Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Mom’s a bit too “chicken” to let me eat all my meals raw, but with these Rawboost treats I can have a taste of raw meat without needing to eat my main meals raw. These Rawboost treats offer up real, all natural chicken and pure raw ingredients – in a freeze dried treat form.

Instinct Rawboost Treats // Product Review and Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

These tiny treats boast only 2 calories per treat, perfect for us dogs that like to watch our figure, and they are a great size to use as training treats too.

Instinct Rawboost Treats // Product Review and Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Of course when I smelled that burst of raw chicken flavor I dropped everything and came sprinting over. Cricket better watch out, because when I smell chicken nothing is going to get in my way!

Instinct Rawboost Treats // Product Review and Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Nothing is ever truly free at my house, so mom made me work for my treats, but as you can see from the video below – I’d pretty much to anything for a taste of these scrumptious chicken bites!

An Average Weekend

An average weekend for me is probably actually not that average. See my family is always on the go go go, and one weekend adventure always leads to another.

An Average Weekend // Ammo the Dachshund

Most days always start out on the farm, with my daily farm chores like feeding the ponies and making sure everything is in order.

An Average Weekend // Ammo the Dachshund

An Average Weekend // Ammo the Dachshund

Then usually it’s out to lunch – always at a dog friendly dining establishment!

An Average Weekend // Ammo the Dachshund

Then it’s off to burn some calories by going on a hike!

An Average Weekend // Ammo the Dachshund

An Average Weekend // Ammo the Dachshund

On the way home we make a pit-stop at the hardware store to pick up supplies for more weekend projects.

An Average Weekend // Ammo the Dachshund

I take a quick rest, because I know we’ll be stopping for ice cream on the way home too.

An Average Weekend // Ammo the Dachshund

With all these weekend adventures it’s no wonder that by the time I arrive home again I look like this! And it’s not even bedtime yet!

I can’t complain though, because weekend adventures are the best! Ammo the Dachshund
