Friday Fetch: DIY Collar Bling

diy dog charmsI’m an individual, which means I like stuff that sets me apart from the crowd (How many super hero dachshunds do you know?). So when I came across this DIY tutorial to make your own bling for your collar, I knew at some point I’d be begging someone with hands to make me something cool to wear around my neck!

This tutorial from Jenny Ryan in the Good Dog Magazine gives you details on how to use Sculpey clay to sculpt, then bake, some bling for your own furry friend. Seriously, this is so simple I’m wondering why I didn’t think of it!? You can check out the full tutorial.

So, now the question is, who’s going to make me some super hero bling?

Friday Fetch: Furry and Fancy

adam voorhes photographyI don’t know about you, but I LOVE having my picture taken. Dressing up like someone you aren’t, making silly faces, and simply having a good time! So when I stumbled across the photography of Adam Voorhes (via)- I knew – someday I must meet this guy so he can take my picture!

He somehow manages to make pooches, bears, and even chickens look dignified and fancy – and we all know how scrappy those chickens can be! hehe.

Anyway, here are a few of my favorite shots – you can check out more of his work on his website.

Friday Fetch: Scott Lifshutz Pillows

west elm dog pillowsI don’t know about you, but at my house, the couch is mine! I like to watch my shows on there in the evening, there seems to me no shortage of warm laps to share, and it’s where I snuggle up in blankets for the night. So I figure since it’s MINE, I should probably get to decorate it however I like. That’s why I picked out these fun pet pillows for today’s Friday Fetch.

As part of an exclusive collaboration with west elm, noted pet portraitist Scott Lifshutz created a series of new paintings, including a happy pack of four-legged friends, a hound, and a horse, which are printed in artful watercolor-style silhouette on cotton pillow covers using a special technique to capture and preserve all of the painterly details and nuances of Scott’s originals.

He also designed a series of fun appetizer plates featuring some furry four-legged friends. You can check them out here.

You can fetch Scott’s designs at West Elm for $19 – $29

Friday Fetch: Hats for your Pet

Lady Gaga has nothing on this totally fashionable chihuahua from the Etsy shop, lenapavia. Looking for more than just a hat? Channel your inner Gaga with this inspired frog costume. Seriously. It makes me giggle.

From the shop:

Hello I’m Lena.
Thank you for stopping by my shop and I hope you like my designs. I began my career as a fashion designer at the age of 3. My first client was mom when I decided to cut and fix her dress. From there I went on to cutting and fixing everything I could get my hands on. I still remember that my grandmother had to keep all of the sewing supplies hidden whenever I came over. Nevertheless this did not stop me, and I have pursued my dream of becoming a fashion designer to this day.

Lena’s hats are certainly trendy – from cowboy hats to mini mouse ears no dog’s head will go bare! You can fetch your own trendy hat at lenapavia for $5 – $36

Friday Fetch: Blink Leash

I might have a mild obsession with rope leashes currently – that and the color teal. We dogs don’t wear only wear clothing on occasion, so we gotta accessorize somehow!

So even though my mom recently made me my own diy rope leash, when I found the TEAL ROPE leashes on Blink I found myself begging and pleading my mom for an upgrade. True I probably could have dyed my current leash, but these were just oh so cool.

These hand-made, hand-dyed leashes are made of 100% cotton rope with brass hardware. Leash ends are spliced and then whipped, making them as strong as uncut rope.

They come in three different colors, Salmon, Lake and Smoke as well as two different styles – slip or clip.

You can fetch your own for $20-$45 at Blink

Friday Fetch: Papercut Pet Portrait

In honor of me being a painter now, I thought I’d share another artist with you today. Check out these super cool custom pet portraits. I think Lemon Drop Land would totally be worthy of making a special portrait of yours truly – complete with super hero cape (P.S. my Birthday is in October!)

To create the papercut, I’ll begin with a sketch of the (fairly high resolution) photo that you email me. Once I’m happy with the likeness and “feel,” I’ll slice the image out of subtly textured, sturdy, acid-free, highly light-resistant, 60% cotton papers, ensuring a long life without deterioration. Each piece is signed and dated.

You can fetch your favorite pet’s portrait for $200 at Lemon Drop Land on Etsy.

And if you just so happen to own a Boxer then you are in luck! Pre-cut Boxer portrait – $80 at Lemon Drop Land. I’m a little jealous that it’s not a Dachshund!

P.S. You can also LIKE LemondropLand over on Facebook.

Friday Fetch: The Doggie Bag

The other day mom visited Petco without me. I know the horror! But at least she didn’t come back empty handed. And even though she didn’t buy me EVERYTHING I wanted, she did come back with the scoop on some new dog-gone great dog toys.

One of those items is The Doggie Bag. A new product from Hyper Pet. It’s a wiggling, barking, bag of fun! Their website boasts that it’s the perfect toy for hyper dogs.

Hyper or not, their fun promo video (see below) made me want to give it a try myself! The fact that it had a couple of cute little long haired Dachshunds in it may have helped a little too. So maybe if I promise to be really good next time mom’s at petco she’ll pick me up a doggie bag.

You can fetch The Doggie Bag at Petco (selection may vary at different stores) and on Amazon for $17.

Friday Fetch: Dogs at Weddings

I decided to have a little fun today via one of my new favorite sites, Pinterest. So while looking for something fun to share with you guys for my Friday Fetch, I decided to search “dog wedding” (you know, just for fun). The result looked a little something like this:

Click on each image to find their source.

Magical right? Sadly I didn’t get to attend my mom & dad’s wedding (I was born the very next day!) – but I suppose it would have looked a little something like this:

Yes, I’m quite jealous that Minnow got to attend the festivities without me. He even got a very important job!

He was the “flower pony” and had to walk down the wedding isle tossing flowers as he went. He was such a good “flower pony” that I was thinking maybe I should hire him out. I can see it now, “Amazingly talented pony tosses flowers at wedding for big time celebrities”. I’m totally gonna be rich. hehe.
