New Vegetable Garden

Ammo the Dachshund's Vegetable Garden

Every year I like to plant a vegetable garden. After last year’s winter my usual veggie spot was looking a bit sad. Nothing a little gardening re-model couldn’t fix though!

Ammo the Dachshund's Vegetable Garden

My handy Dad got to work right away with a new plan so mom and I don’t have to pull weeds anymore…woohoo! Mom of course had to sit this one out, since apparently heavy lifting is frowned upon when you’re growing a baby.

Ammo the Dachshund's Vegetable Garden

Eventually (thanks to dad’s hard work) my new garden boxes started to take shape and it was time to get the dirt! (my favorite part)

Ammo the Dachshund's Vegetable Garden

I tagged along to help mom and dad pick up garden soil so my plants could grow big and strong.

Ammo the Dachshund's Vegetable Garden

While dad shoveled all the dirt into the garden boxes I stood guard to make sure no critters got in the way of our hard work. It’s pretty much a full time job.

Ammo the Dachshund's Vegetable Garden

The soil went in and I could hardly wait to get my plants into the ground. I’ve been saving bits of kibble all year to plant my kibble tree!

Ammo the Dachshund's Vegetable Garden

With soil in the boxes the garden was looking mostly finished….now it was time to plant!

Ammo the Dachshund's Vegetable Garden

After mom picked up some plant starts at the store I helped put everything into the boxes. Now all we have to do is wait for them to grow big and strong, and keep the critters from eating them! Don’t worry though, I know just the dog for the job!

End of Summer Harvests + Limited Ingredient Diets for Dogs

Disclaimer: this post is brought to you by the honest kitchen. All opinions are my own, and I only share products I think you and your dogs will love.

Healthy, Limited Ingredient Diets for Dogs from the Honest Kitchen

While Trooper and I may look hot in this picture, the truth is the warm summer weather will be leaving us soon. With it we’ll have to say goodbye to our lush veggie gardens and the summertime harvests that have been so abundant this year.

Healthy, Limited Ingredient Diets for Dogs from the Honest Kitchen

Eating healthy, fresh ingredients isn’t just important for the humans, it’s important for us dogs too. While mom can’t grow everything Trooper and I need to maintain a healthy diet, I want to share with you the newest addition to my healthy diet that’s available all year round!

Healthy, Limited Ingredient Diets for Dogs from the Honest Kitchen

My friends at the Honest Kitchen are makers of all natural, human grade dehydrated dog and cat food. Their foods are produced in the USA from non-GMO produce and hormone-free meats.

Healthy, Limited Ingredient Diets for Dogs from the Honest Kitchen

One of the newest addition to their healthy food line is called BRAVE. This limited ingredient diet contains only six ingredients: MSC certified pollock, organic coconut, chickpea, celery, pumpkin, spinach, plus vitamins and minerals – which is perfect for dogs that may have allergies, or prefer a more simplified food.

Healthy, Limited Ingredient Diets for Dogs from the Honest Kitchen

Brave had a great fishy smell, which I picked up even before mom opened the shipping box it came in! And all you have to do is add water to this food to get it to puff up to a full (and filling) meal. I look forward to scarfing it down at mealtime.

Healthy, Limited Ingredient Diets for Dogs from the Honest Kitchen

While neither Trooper nor I have any food related allergies, we can certainly appreciate a simplified diet with only the healthiest of ingredients.

When Your Dog Helps With Gardening

I have a secret to tell you about my parents. Something that not everyone knows……they have GREEN THUMBS!

Gardening with Ammo the Dachshund

And apparently not the good kind of green thumbs…because they’re experts at growing weeds! Yes, it’s true. My landscaping at home was looking a little sad. But don’t worry, this year I whipped my parents into shape and helped them add a little curb appeal to our home.

Gardening with Ammo the Dachshund

It was no easy task though, and took a lot of effort on my part – including trips to Lowes.

Gardening with Ammo the Dachshund

Many, many trips to Lowes!

And trips to Terrain for inspiration.

And then the hard work really began. In case you’re wondering, yes I did actually work…

But after all that hard work, my yard was looking a bit more presentable.

So presentable in fact that I’m sure all the neighbor dogs are just lined up waiting to “mark it”.

How Does your Garden Grow? May Barkbox // Ammo the Dachshund

I shared what fun things popped up in mom’s garden this month.

Boy did I pack it in this past month! Now that summer is just around the corner I’m sure I’ll be headed out on many more exciting adventures. From dining out, to trips to the lake – I can’t wait to have some summertime fun! What plans do you have with your dog this summer? Ammo the Dachshund

How Does your Garden Grow?

I like to think I’m a pretty health conscious pup. I eat grain-free, exercise regularly, and I try to only snack on things that are good for me.

So imagine how thrilled I was when my monthly box of goodies from Barkbox popped up in mom’s garden! (I knew that magic horse poop was good for something!)

How Does your Garden Grow? May Barkbox // Ammo the Dachshund

This month’s Barkbox celebrates healthy (but still delicious) eating, inspired by the finds from your favorite farmer’s markets.

How Does your Garden Grow? May Barkbox // Ammo the Dachshund

Packed full of good-for-your-dog items this month’s box contained items that were organic, GMO-free and eco-friendly sourced toys.

How Does your Garden Grow? May Barkbox // Ammo the Dachshund

Mom says she never has to worry about checking the ingredients when my Barkbox arrives because their edible products do not include rawhide (or anything processed with formaldehyde), have minimal processing with no glycerin whenever possible, no wheat, gluten, soy, or corn, and are filler-free as well as organic whenever possible.

Not to mention all treats are sourced from the USA and Canada, and chews are sourced from the USA, Canada, South America, Australia and New Zealand.

How Does your Garden Grow? May Barkbox // Ammo the Dachshund

So with minimal watering, this month’s Barkbox popped up an eco-friendly carrot squeaky toy from P.L.A.Y., a Caitec ball toy that had a fun and innovative squeak (and has held up to my chompers thus far), Apple Cobbler organic and GMO-free cookies from Snicky Snacks, Plato Organic Chicken treats, and a Barkworthies 100% beef bully stick.

How Does your Garden Grow? May Barkbox // Ammo the Dachshund

Who knew eating healthy could be so yummy!

How Does your Garden Grow? May Barkbox // Ammo the Dachshund

Of course I went straight for the bully stick!

Summer Harvest

This is the apple tree that lives in my yard.

These are the apples that it grows for me.

This is the peach tree that lives in my yard.

These are the peaches that it grows for me.

These are my green peppers.

These are my tomatoes.

These are my cucumbers.

This is what the ground hog did to my cucumbers.

In my defense I was stuck behind my fence…or I WOULD have stopped him.

ammo the dachshund

See, not my fault.

ammo the dachshund chewing on stick

So, you might be wondering – with all of these great fruits & veggies in my yard – why I’m chewing on a stick? Well, it’s because fruits & veggies are YUCK! That’s why.

Little Helper

Last Sunday Dad put up gutters on the shed in the back yard. Mom says it’s so we can collect rain for the rain barrel she got for Christmas – and then we can water the magic horse poop and get some good eats this summer!

That’s great and all – but if it’s soooooo important to put the gutters up, then why did I get stuck behind the fence while everybody else helped?

At first I thought it was a punishment. But then I remembered I hadn’t chewed anything bad in AT LEAST a week, so it couldn’t be because of that.

Then I thought maybe it was because I was too short. But I showed mom that I could stretch really long, so it definitely couldn’t have been that.

It could of been because I didn’t have any rubber boots like mom, but she knows that getting my feet wet doesn’t bother me at all!

I thought perhaps if I showed mom how excited I would be if she let me help then I could get out from behind the fence, but jumping up and down did nothing.

Then when I saw Dad climbing the ladder I realized what it was……..

I left my tool belt at work.

dang!
