Goats that Race

Goats that Race

Last weekend I grabbed my rain coat, hopped on a bus and headed off on another adventure to the Slyfox Goat Races!

Goats that Race

It was crowded, wet and muddy…

Goats that Race

…and the closest I got to actually seeing the goats race was to pose in front of one for a selfie. Yea, not super ideal.

Goats that Race

…but, I got to bring along my sister for her very first time at the goat races.

Goats that Race

She got wet, and had to eat her snack in the rain…..

Goats that Race

…but seeing her squeal and smile when she got to meet some of her favorite animals made it totally worth it!

Goats that Race

And we both agreed, the “mascot” had nothing on the real goat racers. Baby P and I were less than impressed.

I mean, just look at those REAL goats run! Impressive!

Goats that Race

So yea, rain may have put a damper on the fun, but it was still a fantastic memory to share with my family.

And don’t worry, when I got chilly, Baby P even shared her raincoat with me.

Here’s to hoping next year’s races are a little less damp….because Baby P and I are already begging mom and dad for a goat of our own. My pony Minnow already promised he’d help look after it on the farm. Pppppplllllease!

One of my favorite things at the goat races is listening to the names of all the goats announced over the loudspeakers. My favorite one this year was Baahhhbara. If Baby P and I ever do get that goat we want, what do you think we should name it? Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

When Goats Run Races

When Goats Run Races // Ammo the Dachshund

On Sunday I attended the 2014 Sly Fox Goat Races – a first for me!

When Goats Run Races // Ammo the Dachshund

I hopped on the bus at the fairgrounds in the hopes of seeing some exciting racing!

The turnout to the event was much larger than I expected, especially since for the better part of the morning we were stuck under a raincloud.

I wasn’t going to let a little rain stop me from having a good time though, so I pulled up my hood and got ready for some fun!

When Goats Run Races // Ammo the Dachshund

First I hit up the food tent and ate some yummy Beerwurst, I’m drooling still thinking about it.

After my belly was full I decided to mingle and check out the goat racing competition.

Tension was high, as the goats argued amongst each other about who they thought would come out on top and have the honor of getting the ceremonial bock beer named after them.

I sniffed out all the competitors and secretly made my bets on who I thought would win.

I also made sure to keep looking over my shoulder, because I don’t trust anything with horns!

When Goats Run Races // Ammo the Dachshund

Not only did I meet goats at the races, but there were lots of dogs there too, like this big guy who had a go pro camera strapped to his back.

When Goats Run Races // Ammo the Dachshund

I also met this guy, Chase the mini Australian Shepherd. He reminded me of my best buddy Trooper, but much more my size!

While I bounced around the event I attracted quite a bit of attention from the children there (as well as the adults that couldn’t help but want to take my picture).

When Goats Run Races // Ammo the Dachshund

The kids were my favorite part though, because where there’s kids, there’s food!

Finally it was time for the goat races to start, or so I heard, because I couldn’t see anything on account of being so short! #shortdogproblems

Thankfully mom and dad helped me work my way to the front of the crowd so that I’d had a much better view.

And before I knew it the goats were off….well kinda. I’m not sure what I was expecting, maybe because I’m used to seeing and racing in the dachshund races – well goats aren’t quite as speedy!

It was quite comical to watch actually, and at the end of the day it was announced that the goat, Spartacus was the champion!

But in a major upset on monday it was re-announced that the new winner was Jixxer after a photo surfaced of his leg crossing the finish line ahead of Spartacus. So much drama at the goat races! I guess better luck next year Spartacus!Ammo the Dachshund

P.S. I hear the champion Jixxer is up for adoption! Maybe next year I’ll have my own goat to enter, as the ponies on the farm have been asking for a goat buddy for a long time now!

Caramel Apples and Goats

With fall rolling in I took my first annual trip of the season to Highland Orchards.

I love sniffing the goats at the orchard, but truth be told, I’m quite happy that there is a fence between us at all times. Safety first!

But the real treat this time was that mom’s first cousin once removed (whatever that means) tagged along with us.

Kids are good for one thing in a dog’s world…..and that’s dropping food!

Caramel Apples and Goats // Ammo the Dachshund

You can bet I warned Mr. Goat that any food dropped was mine, and mine alone. Don’t worry though, I was very friendly and wagged my tail when I told him. I’m pretty sure he got the message.

What kind of adventures will you be going on this fall?Ammo the Dachshund

Apple of my Eye

Every year when Autumn rolls around I take the obligatory trip to Highland Orchards, home of the cider donut, pumpkin picking, fresh apples, canned preserves and goats!

Like most of the children there I humored my parents with having my photo taken in the fall cutouts.

But we all know there is really only one reason to take a trip to Highland Orchards (besides a bite of cider doughnut)…

Ammo the Dachshund // Highland Orchards

…the goats!! Now last year the goats gave me the stink eye, so I was careful to be a bit weary the second time around.

Ammo the Dachshund // Highland Orchards

I have to admit those fellows are starting to grow on me, even with their sharp pointy horns.

Ammo the Dachshund // Highland Orchards

Although I was still somewhat relieved that there was a fence between me and them, after all I was sorely outnumbered.

I plan to visit the Highland Orchard goats again, if only to get on their good side, because Mom says we may be getting goats on the farm in the near future. Yikes! Ammo the Dachshund

Trip to Wyebrook Farm

Yesterday I took a trip to Wyebrook Farm in Honeybrook, PA.

Ammo the Dachshund visits Wyebrook Farm

I’ve been to many farms before – but mom told me this one was a little bit different.

Ammo the Dachshund visits Wyebrook Farm

From their website:

At Wyebrook Farm, we provide an alternative to the industrial food supply. By creating a diverse polyculture on our farm, we produce the healthiest animals and best food without the use of artificial fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, hormones or antibiotics.

We believe that the only way to guarantee that the food you eat is healthy, safe and nutritious is to know the farmer who produced it. We sell the products of the farm from a historic barn on the farm so that our customers can see our animals and our farming practices. We encourage you to tour the farm and ask us questions. By purchasing food from Wyebrook Farm, you support the local community and ensure that this part of Chester County retains the agricultural character that has made it one of the most productive and beautiful places in America.

At Wyebrook Farm they have a cafe that is open on the weekends as well as a market that sells their farm raised meats and veggies.

The food was delicious, but I was really excited to take a tour of the farm.

Ammo the Dachshund visits Wyebrook Farm

I met some really cute chicks along the way.

Ammo the Dachshund visits Wyebrook Farm

I even got to meet this portly fellow – who despite looking somewhat friendly, scared the bejeezes out of me!

Ammo the Dachshund visits Wyebrook Farm

It ended up being a really fun day – and we even stopped for ice cream on the way home! I have no doubt I’ll be back again, and next time I’ll work up the courage to tell that pig who’s boss. Ammo the Dachshund

Corn Navigation

This fall I got to try something I’ve never done before! Visit a Corn Maze!

I will get to the maze part in a second, but first let me tell you about all the new friends I made!

Mom and Dad said these were goats. I don’t really care what they are, but the fact that they can climb something like this…..

..”The Goat Walk”…..makes them pretty awesome in my book!

This one gave me the stink eye….I’m not gonna lie…..I thought I might die.

Three against one….I wasn’t about to fight those odds.

After getting another death stare from this guy, I decided maybe it was time to head into the maze!

The corn maze looked challenging, but I was up for the task! Mom and Dad said that I could navigate the entire thing myself….and that they would follow ME!

There were a few momments that I had to ponder which route to take.

And honestly, I did have to check the map once or twice.

And for a second there I thought about maybe taking a short cut.

But in the end I made it over the foot bridge…..

…and I could see the end in sight!

I made it to the exit just as it was getting dark! And would you believe…..I only made ONE wrong turn, and navigated the maze in half the normal time!

I can’t wait to conquer next year’s corn maze!!

Happy Fall from me to you!
