Fair Hill International 2016 from a Dog’s View

Just like I did last year I decided to head out to the Fair Hill International Event in Maryland a few weekends back. This event at Fair Hill is one of the most prestigious international three day events in the world, and is the ultimate test of a horse and rider. Through tests in dressage, endurance, and stadium jumping the horse and rider teams work together to show that they can compete in the most demanding and highest levels of equestrian sports.

Fair Hill International 2016

To get to the event you have to ride on a school bus (the highlight for me)!

Fair Hill International 2016

Over the years I’ve become quite the expert at school bus riding. I mean just look how cool I look, I bet everyone will want to sit next to me!

Fair Hill International 2016

This year was a little different though, because I got to bring my sister along for the fun! And at just 9 weeks old I got to take her for her first school bus ride!

Fair Hill International 2016

Before I could give my sister all the cool kid tips we had arrived at the event, I was just going to have to teach her on the fly.

Fair Hill International 2016

We started off the day by visiting the main arena to watch the horses jumping.

Fair Hill International 2016

As exciting as the jumping was, I totally couldn’t help myself when I spotted a make-shift hole in the straw bales. It was calling my name…so I made a fort.

Fair Hill International 2016

After the jumping had wrapped up for the day I took my sister over to the kids play area.

Fair Hill International 2016

Immediately I was the cool kid in the play area too, even the Alpacas flocked to me for my autograph. 😉

best-friends-riding-ponies20161016-104

We took selfies, and rode ponies, having ourselves a grand time.

Fair Hill International 2016

I even started teaching her how to REALLY ride.

Fair Hill International 2016

As you can see, she’s starting to get the hang of it. No hands already! She’s gonna be a daredevil just like me.

Fair Hill International 2016

And that’s where my adventure rearENDS. 😉 We had a fantastic fall day at Fair Hill International, and I got to teach my sister how to be really cool.

Who knows, maybe someday I’ll get to watch my sister competing at Fair Hill!

A Holiday Weekend

Over the 4th of July Weekend mom and I took a little extra time off from working at the shop. I work pretty hard, and it’s nice to take a break sometimes to unwind and have some fun. Of course my family’s idea of fun is squeezing in as many adventures as possible – so I made sure to do a little bit of everything over the weekend!

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

I kicked things off with a campfire in the backyard. Because it wouldn’t be the 4th without a good old fashioned weenie roast. (don’t worry….actual dachshund wasn’t on the menu)

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

Then it was time for a Saturday morning breakfast out in town, followed by catching a game of little league baseball. After all I gotta get practicing my team coaching skills for when my little sister gets here and is ready to join a sports team!

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

Then it was time to celebrate a very special ladies’ 92 Birthday! I loved getting to celebrate my Super MomMom’s B-day with the family.

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

Family makes everything more fun!

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

Of course it wouldn’t be a “vacation” if I didn’t do some laps around the farm.

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

Just enough to warrant a 3 hour nap of course!

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

I even got to check out a hot air balloon launch. It was pretty cool, but I’m pretty happy just watching from the ground….that fire looked terrifying!

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

While I’m not a huge fan of fireworks (I alternate between hiding in the basement, and barking my head off at them in anger….can’t make up my mind if I’m scared or just pissed really), I did track down some of “nature’s fireworks” with a sunset trip to the lake. Nothing better.

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

4th of July was finally here and I couldn’t miss the celebration in town. Good food and family fun, a perfect way to celebrate America!

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

Then it’s off to the farm again to track down some groundhogs.

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

Well, and maybe do a farm chore or two too!

Holiday Weekend with Ammo the Dachshund

And to end the perfect holiday weekend, a cookout of epic proportions….where corn on the cob is necessary for a small dachshund’s survival. (well at least thats what I would have my family think…..and you better not tell them otherwise!)

I’m pretty sure after this weekend I’m going to need to sleep for an entire week. What sort of fun did your pups get into? Any other dogs out there can’t make up their mind about how they feel about fireworks? Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

Surprise! It’s a Party!

Surprise! It's a Party! Ammo attends a Surprise Party

Last weekend I attended a Surprise Birthday Party, well to be more accurate I hosted a Surprise Birthday Party for my MomMom. (above you can see me anxiously awaiting the arrival of our special guest with my party hat on)

Surprise! It's a Party! Ammo attends a Surprise Party

With so many guests in attendance I bet you’re thinking I was probably the life of the party (being the only dog that was invited and all). Now normally I would say you are correct, and to follow there would be lots of photos of me doing Birthday Party type things, only this time I was infatuated with one particular guest only.

Surprise! It's a Party! Ammo attends a Surprise Party

You see, my littlest cousin is about as close to the floor as you can get (at least for the humans)….so I knew that if I stuck to my cousin like glue that inevitably I would end up with some of that yummy party food in my belly.

Surprise! It's a Party! Ammo attends a Surprise Party

Yup, you better believe I snagged some carrots and maybe a few crackers too! And for those of you dogs out there that don’t like having children in your home….you haven’t lived until those short little people carry around food at dog height! BEST DAY EVER.

Little Boys vs Dogs

When our hay guy delivers to the farm sometimes he likes to bring along something special for Trooper and I.

Little Boys vs Dogs - who will win?

We wait ever so patiently when the truck pulls up.

Little Boys vs Dogs - who will win?

Well, Trooper is a little less patient with his waiting, but he tries.

Labor Day Weekend Fun with Ammo the Dachshund

But the wait is over when the farmer’s little boys pop out of the truck! And then suddenly it’s an epic battle of Little Boys vs Dogs. I’ll let you be the judge of who won….

It was me and Trooper wasn’t it? I knew it!

Does your dog love playing with children as much as Trooper and I do?Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

Farm Dog Duties

Farm life isn’t always fun and games, sometimes there are important chores to be done.

Labor Day Weekend Fun with Ammo the Dachshund

When a big delivery of hay from our farmer friends showed up at the barn, I knew Trooper and I would have a busy afternoon helping to unload it.

Labor Day Weekend Fun with Ammo the Dachshund

So it was up to the hay loft to prepare for some heavy lifting!

Farm Life + Stacking Hay

Farm Life + Stacking Hay

The farmer’s kids tagged along on the adventure, and Trooper and I thought they smelled like dirt, candy, and a hint of worms. You know, all the stuff little boys normally smell like.

Farm Life + Stacking Hay

With the hay elevator hooked up, it was time to get stacking.

Farm Life + Stacking Hay

Only Trooper and I realized that stacking hay was better left to the humans, you know, because of the paws and all.

Labor Day Weekend Fun with Ammo the Dachshund

That’s ok though, because Trooper and I found other ways to be useful and we promptly broke out into a wrestling match to entertain the farmer’s boys.

Farm Life + Stacking Hay

Farm Life + Stacking Hay

After the hay was stacked in place in the loft Trooper and I set out to inspect every last bale. We’re very paw-ticular about what our special ponies are eating. So we go in search of anything that shouldn’t be in there, sometimes we even find smooshed snakes or other rodents!

Farm Life + Stacking Hay

This time everything checked out a-okay though, aside from us picking up a few cobwebs along the way.

Farm Life + Stacking Hay

That’s ok though, the cobwebs are part of our patented “farm dog” smell. The verdict is still out on which scent is better…..little boy, or farm dog. (but it’s pretty safe to say that anything stinky is the BEST SCENT EVER).Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

Trax Review – The Best GPS Tracker for Dogs

Trax Review - A GPS Tracker for Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

About a month ago my new friends over at Trax sent me one of their GPS Trackers to test out. Now if you’ve been reading my blog for quite some time, then you might know that I’ve had my eye on GPS Trackers for quite some time.

Paired with the free Trax app (available for apple and android users) using the Trax Tracker can help you keep a watchful eye on your pets and other loved ones.

Trax Review - A GPS Tracker for Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

My mom never quite pulled the trigger on getting me one because she hadn’t found just the right one – that is until Trax popped onto the market. Trax has a whole slew of features that make it stand out above the others that are available.

Trax Review - A GPS Tracker for Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

Trax comes with all the items you see here, which includes a handy case to attach to clothing and one to attach to your dog’s collar depending on how you plan to use it.

Trax Review - A GPS Tracker for Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

The usb cord charger plugs into a slot on the tracker and can be charged by plugging into any usb port you might have (computer, car charger that has a usb converter, etc).

Trax is water resistant, shockproof, stain resistant, and functions in weather -10 °C to +40 °C – but you can help protect it further from the elements by placing a piece of tape over the usb port to help keep out water.

Trax Review - A GPS Tracker for Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

Since I am a dog, I opted to slip mine into the dog collar silicone case, which then easily slides onto any dog collar. One of the things I like about Trax (above a lot of other trackers out there) is the size (approximately 2.2in x 1.5in x 0.4in), it’s one of the smallest on the market – which makes it perfect for even small dogs like me to wear.

Trax Review - A GPS Tracker for Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

Once turned on the Trax Tracker takes a few seconds to locate satellites in your area – especially the first time you start it up. The company does note that it’s quicker to locate them in a more rural setting then in a city setting (because of the tall buildings). For me it took no time at all to connect since I tested it out on the farm for the first time.

You can also share your Trax Tracker between multiple smart phones, so both mom and dad can be tracking me at all times.

Trax Review - A GPS Tracker for Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

One of the features my mom loved about Trax is the ability to set up Geofences. A Geofence is essentially a virtual safe zone for your dog. With Trax you can set up as many geofences as you like (while many of their competitors only offer the option for 1), and they can be any size and even any shape (doesn’t have to be a square or a circle even). With geofences enabled you can receive a text alert on your smart phone whenever your pet enters or exits those areas. You can even set up a schedule for when you want the geofences to be active (for example during the hours you are at work monday through friday).

Trax Review - A GPS Tracker for Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

Trax location updates depend on how fast the tracker is moving and they can be as frequent as every 3 second.

Trax is also working on adding proximity geofences where you can surround yourself with a dynamic digital fence that moves when you do. This would be great for when you walk your dog off leash as you’ll get a notification when he strays too far.

Trax Review - A GPS Tracker for Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

While tracking your dog you can open up the Trax app at anytime to get an idea of where your pet is. In fact one day while I was testing out Trax on the farm my mom heard me faintly barking in the distance. She popped open the Trax app and quickly located me near one of the horses’ pastures. She used the app to track me and found me lying on the ground with my legs caught inside of one of my jackets (the perils of short legs!). We had quite a good laugh after mom set me free, but I can tell you I was super thankful for Trax after that!

Trax Review - A GPS Tracker for Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

While I’ve always had free reign of the 20 acre farm, Trax has been great for my freedom – because now my mom doesn’t have to worry about where I am or what I’m getting into, because my location is always right at her fingertips.

Trax Review - A GPS Tracker for Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

Now while I always liked to keep my whereabouts on the farm a bit elusive – things are a little different now because with the Trax history view my mom can view my travels at any certain time throughout the day. My groundhog hunting trails are no longer a secret, drat.

Trax Review - A GPS Tracker for Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

Another neat feature in the Trax app is augmented reality view (AR), with this feature enabled you can use your smartphone’s built-in camera to locate and show the distance to your tracker. It will appear in the image on your phone once it’s pointed in the right direction of your tracker.

Trax Review - A GPS Tracker for Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

My mom also found a special use for the Trax Tracker when I’m out running errands with her. Trax has the ability to set up speed alerts. So if your dog were to start traveling over the speed limit you set, you would be notified via text alert on your phone. Mom tested out this feature while I was sitting outside in the parking lot during a quick errand – but not to worry, no one tried to kidnap me – and if they ever did my mom would HUNT THEM DOWN.

Trax Review - A GPS Tracker for Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

But it is nice to know I’m a little safer with speed alerts set up on my Trax Tracker. Although my mom did want to note it would be helpful if the text alerts displayed in miles instead of km.

Trax Review - A GPS Tracker for Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

When you purchase Trax, two years of data and service are included, therefore during these first two years there will be no monthly fee! After these two years, you will have the option to continue your usage on a monthly basis for a fee of $5.00 or 3.95 EUR per month. Compared to the other comprable GPS Trackers I investigated, Trax is able to offer the most affordable monthly rates out of any of them.

Battery life is also important when you are looking into GPS Trackers for your dog, and Trax comes with a rechargeable battery lasting 1 day depending on how active your child/dog is. Trax is constantly enhancing those figures in every firmware update. My battery has been lasting up to about 2 weeks when I use it 3 -5 times a week for about 3-4 hours at a time.

Now while I can’t say I’ve personally tried any of the other trackers on the market, I can say that I’m not sure how I’ll ever go back to not having one. I feel like I’ve entered the future! I highly recommend checking out the Trax GPS Tracker for your dog, you can fetch one for $249 from Trax. Ammo the Dachshund

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

As with every spring’s arrival I am always anxiously awaiting the visit from a special bunny to my house!

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

This year was special because I got a visit from the Barkbox Bunny! While I was sleeping on Easter Eve the Barkbox bunny delivered my monthly box of goodies so that I would have something to open on Easter morning!

Mom made me wait until my cousins and Trooper came over on Easter to open it, and I happily shared all my treats with the ones I love.

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

My April Barkbox was filled with lots of goodies fit for an outdoor adventure. How did they know that I love adventures!?

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

I went to town right away gnawing in my Barkworthies bully stick (one of my favorites).

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

I also enjoyed the Mr. Barksmith’s frozen carrot cake smoothie. Those bunnies are so sweet to share their carrots with me!

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

The Quaker Pet Group toy provided hours of entertainment for me on Easter morning and Trooper and I had fun racing around the backyard with it.

My Barkbox also contained a package of Etta Says duck treats and some Complete Natural Nutrition grain-free campfire treats. Can you say yum!

While I hear the “Barkbox Bunny” is on vacation until next Spring, you can still fetch your pet a Barkbox subscription and save 10% off with code AMMO5 and as a bonus this month Barkbox is donating $1 – $5 from every subscription sold to an animal rescue in need!

After my own easter basket fun it was time to help my human cousins go on their egg hunt.

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

Unfortunately I had to stay on my leash because mom said I would find all the eggs before my cousins got a chance to.

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

Now what fun is an easter egg hunt if you don’t let the dog with the best sniffer do all the hunting?

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

Don’t worry, I still shouted out clues as to where to find them! Those kids would be lost without me!

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

After a good easter meal with family I retired to the basement where I let my cousins dress me up. Apparently they thought it was extra fashionable to wear super hero undies and a buret.

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

Although I’m not quite sure it was as fashionable as they thought after I got all those snickers from Trooper. (maybe he’s just jealous!)

Easter with the Barkbox Bunny // Ammo the Dachshund

I had quite the fabulous Easter and as you can imagine I slept very very well that night.

How did your pup celebrate the Easter holiday?

Visit to the Uwchlan Hills Elementary School

Last Friday I took a trip to the Uwchlan Hills Elementary School for Reader Appreciation Day & Dr. Suess’ Birthday. I’m certainly no Dr. Suess, but I did bring along one of my favorite books, Superdog: The Heart of a Hero.

ammo the dachshund goes to school

I was so excited to meet the 3rd grade class that I’d be reading to, I could hardly wait. I even wore my special super hero cape, because I knew the kids would love it.

ammo the dachshund goes to school

After mom helped me read the book I brought, I then got to show all the kids my super cool tricks – like playing dead, jumping through a hoop, and giving some awesome high-fives.

ammo the dachshund goes to school

Afterwards I even showed the kids my special movie that my friends the Painting Ponies are in too.

ammo the dachshund goes to school

Not to brag, but the kids didn’t even want to go to their lunch because they were having so much fun petting me. They even dressed me up in a Dr. Suess hat!

ammo the dachshund goes to school

And had I packed my lunch that day – I probably would of stayed too.

ammo the dachshund goes to school

Going to school was so much fun, kinda makes me wish I could go every day!
