DIY $5 Rope Dog Leash

So mom noticed lately that I’ve been ooh and ahhing over this trendy rope leash from Mungo & Maud. And while I’ll always think it’s super stylin’ – $110 for a new leash for me just wasn’t in the budget.

Instead, on a recent trip to a tack shop in Delaware – mom came up with a plan to make me my very own Rope Leash. For $5!

D.I.Y. $5 Rope Dog Leash

Supplies: cotton horse lead rope, hammer, rope clamp

Step One: You will need to obtain a cotton horse leadrope. I got mine at a horse tack shop for $3. You can also get them online* and at most tack supply places. Or check your local horse supply store.

Step Two: You will need to buy a clamp to make the end of your rope into a handle. I bought a package of two (you know, incase I need a rope leash for my best pal Trooper) for $4.39 (about $2 for each one) at the local hardware store. Most hardware stores should carry them in the rope section, and you can find them online*.

Step 3: Figure out how big of a handle you want at the other end and adjust your rope into the clamp accordingly. It also helps to have a cute little dachshund around for supervision.

Step 4: You will need the help of your dad to hammer the clamp shut around the rope.

Then Tada! You are ready for your next walk in your stylish dog leash!

If you don’t have access to a horse lead rope, you can also use any cotton rope. You will just need too metal rope clamps and a snap for the end – all supplies can be found at the local hardware store.

Yeah, you know you want to beg your mom or dad to make you one of these bad boys!

I think I need one of these in every color! Almost as good as the real thing…..

Friday Fetch: Doggie Hair Do’s

I may not be follically-challenged (at least yet…..well aside from my bare belly), but that doesn’t mean I couldn’t have a blast dawning these hilarious doggie hair do’s from Bitch New York.

Seriously, how laughable would I be in a Sarah Palin wig, or with a Shirley Temple do?

All the wigs come with a strap that can be adjusted for each dog. The wigs are light and comfortable to wear, and are also restyle-able.

You can fetch your own stylin’ wig over at Bitch New York.

Friday Fetch: Petico Tees

Sometimes our people need a little help in the fashion department. I don’t know about you, but I’m super embarrassed when my mom takes me for a walk in her stinky barn boots, torn jeans, and a shirt that looks like the ponies’ spit paint at (which they probably did).

So I did a little happy twirl when I found Petico Tees, an Australian company that makes T-shirts and brooches that feature modern dog designs.

Now if only I could convince the ponies’ that they wouldn’t make good canvases!

UPDATE – this shop unfortunately no longer exists.

Friday Fetch: Vintage Inspired Bowls

Today’s Friday Fetch comes from Ancient Industries. They are noted purveyors of traditional household goods and clothing. They travel to various destinations around the British Isles, Europe and America, looking for useful objects that have been in production for decades, centuries, and millenia. And lucky for us they are also purveyors of pet goodies!

These bauer pottery dog bowls are bright and fun…just like me! Created in Los Angeles in the 1930s, the colours of Bauer Pottery were inspired by the orange grove, the palm tree, and the sky. I’d like one in every color please!

$30 each at Ancient Industries

And if you happen to be of the feline variety, they also carry cat bowls.

Friday Fetch: Photobooth Dogs

If you didn’t already know, I have a love of photobooths. Perhaps it’s because my mom immortalized me into photobooth art. (Check it out here). Whatever the case may be, I’m digging this book right now.

Photobooth Dogs” by Cameron Woo which can be found on ModCloth

The book is filled with vintage photobooth photos that contain some super cute pooches. It makes me wish there was a photobooth in my town!

Sewing – Doggie Style

Lately my mom has been doing this thing called sewing. As far as I can tell she uses this noisy machine that attaches together tempting chew toys fabric into something that may or may not be useful. My mom said I could probably do a better job at sewing than she could, so I jumped at the chance to help. Turns out I never made it past the picking fabric stage – I think all the bright colors just distracted me.

Oh well, sewing has proven to be a great opportunity for me to catch up on my napping. I’ve got my paws crossed that mom will make me something useful one of these days.

Silly Buddy

I’m a pretty trendy guy. I wear a fashionable raincoat when it rains. I have a classy harness that I wear to work. I sleep on a dog bed* adorned with funky robots. I even have a super awesome stunt helmet and cape.

So when my mom said I could pick out a new collar, it came to no surprise that it had to be pretty awesome. I mean, I have a reputation to uphold. I’m not just going to wear any old thing around my neck.

Then I found it! The perfect collar! From a small online shop called Silly Buddy I chose the Maroon Sprout Collar. As much as I love my new little sprout collar, I can’t help but wish I had one of each of the designs from Silly Buddy. Maybe mom will let me get one for all 365 days of the year! I know, keep dreaming. At least I’ll be dreaming in my awesome new collar.

Ammo the Dachshund was not paid or compensated to write this post. He just thinks their collars are totally awesome!
