Winter Storm Jonas & A Dog’s Fun Snow Day

Winter Storm Jonas & A Dog's Fun Snowday

When winter storm Jonas hit my area on Friday night I was ready for it! Although when I awoke the next day in the midst of the storm, I wasn’t quite prepared for having to make a trek to find a spot to pee!

Winter Storm Jonas & A Dog's Fun Snowday

Good thing mom was on hand to help me trek through the Blizzard in search of a spot!

Winter Storm Jonas & A Dog's Fun Snowday

Although, I may have gotten a bit distracted as to the purpose of this excursion! I spent most of the day on Saturday curled up inside waiting for the winds and snow to die down so I could actually go outside and play.

Winter Storm Jonas & A Dog's Fun Snowday

By Sunday the storm had ended, and we were left with 26+ inches of glorious snow and I was ready to go outside and play!

Winter Storm Jonas & A Dog's Fun Snowday

Dad thoughtfully shoveled me a potty area in the backyard, but as you know, I like to blaze my own trail!

Winter Storm Jonas & A Dog's Fun Snowday

I know there is a lot of dogs out there that don’t like the cold, wet snow to touch their paws, but I’m not one of them! I love to explore in the snow, and mom and dad end up having to make me come inside because I’ll stay out there until I’m shivering.

Check out the fun video below of me enjoying my snow day….

Eventually I had to help dad clear the driveway, as were were pretty much snowed in at that point.

Winter Storm Jonas & A Dog's Fun Snowday

It’s a good thing I’m not very good at holding a shovel, because clearing the driveway was hard work!

Winter Storm Jonas & A Dog's Fun Snowday

By mid-day Dad had cleared just enough that we could get out for a walk.

Winter Storm Jonas & A Dog's Fun Snowday

So I took the opportunity to visit the neighborhood kids who were having a blast “attempting” to sled in the deep snow.

Stay tuned on Friday for the continuation of my snow day adventures, where I got to play with my ponies on the farm!

Pet Friendly Road Trip Adventures: The National Mall, D.C.

Adventure Awaits with Ammo the DachshundRoad trips are something I have been doing since I was just a wee pup, and I’m lucky enough that when my family sets out on an adventure they’re always looking for pet friendly locations so that I can tag along too!

Last week I set out on a week long trek to reach my final destination, the annual BlogPaws Pet Blogging Conference. I have tons to share about my week on the road, but I figured I start with my first stop, The National Mall!

Pet Friendly Travel - The National Mall, Washington D.C. with Ammo the Dachshund

If you’re not familiar with the National Mall, it is a great symbol of the United States. The National Mall is over 1,000 acres of park space in our capital city, Washington, D.C. Inside the National Mall are many memorial parks with iconic monuments and memorials.

I was lucky enough to visit the National Mall on Memorial Day so there was lots going on to see! The National Mall is pet friendly for all leashed pets and the only areas pets aren’t allowed are on the walkways at the Vietnam and Korean War Memorials and inside the Washington Monument. As a general rule dogs aren’t allowed inside any buildings and covered areas.

National Monument // Pet Friendly Travel with Ammo the Dachshund

My first stop was the Washington Monument! It was built to honor George Washington, (the U.S.’s first president) and towers 555 feet over Washington, D.C.

It was a fairly warm day, but with a cool breeze blowing through the capitol I was loving every minute of it! What a special place to be on a day to remember those who lost their lives fighting for my country.

Pet Friendly Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool with Ammo the Dachshund

Eventually I made my way over to the Reflecting Pool in front of the Lincoln Memorial. I spotted a family of ducklings enjoying the cool water and couldn’t wait to take a dip with them! Sadly mom said she didn’t think the park staff would be too happy if I went for a swim, so alas I didn’t even get to dip a toe in.

The Lincoln Memorial itself was bustling with visitors and surprisingly I didn’t see many other dogs.

Eventually I made my way to the top of the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and while I wasn’t allowed to go inside the monument, I did grab a selfie with my mom and dad on the steps. Apparently we’re all behind the times too, because I didn’t have a selfie stick like the many other visitors that were at the National Mall. I guess I better step my selfie game up!

While I didn’t see many dogs during my National Mall excursion, I did spot several mounted police officers. Even though I was only a day into my road trip, it made me miss my ponies even more!

Pet Friendly Vietnam Memorial with Ammo the Dachshund

I also made my way over to the Vietnam Memorial. The area was packed with visitors on Memorial Day and I hung back (pets aren’t allowed on the pathway at the Vietnam Memorial) while Dad went up to check it out. A little side fact, did you know my PopPop actually fought in Vietnam?

Pet Friendly White House, Washington D.C. // Ammo the Dachshund

My last stop before I waved goodbye to the National Mall was of course the White House! I had high hopes I’d spot the Obama Family pets, Sunny & Bo, running on the lawn, but they must have been taking their mid-afternoon nap. Although I did spot a box of bees on the back lawn, who knew the president had honeybee pets?

I had a blast checking out the National Mall on Memorial Day, and I even got to watch a little bit of the parade and met so many dachshund loving people on my adventure.

Next on my road trip, I was headed to Shenandoah National Park! So stay tuned tomorrow for even more fun, and find out what happened when I came face to face with a BEAR! Ammo the Dachshund // Blog Signature // Celebrity

What did you do with your pups on Memorial Day?

Dachshund Goes Sledding with Ponies

When the winter rolls around I sometimes (like most of you) spend a little more time indoors. Because honestly, I’d much rather be warm and toasty then freezing my tail off! But when it snows, that all changes, because one of my favorite activities involves a fresh dusting of snow and some of my furry four-legged friends.

It’s time to go sledding with my ponies!

Ammo the Dachshund // Sledding with Ponies

All I need is a warm winter coat, an inner tube, and a willing pony! Good thing Boomerang and Blitz were more than happy to let me hitch a ride.

I hear even more snow is headed my way this Saturday……AND I CAN’T WAIT!

What sort of things do you do for fun in the snow with your dog? Ammo the Dachshund

Christmas Tree Shopping

Every year around this time I go on a very special hunt. A hunt to find a Christmas Tree! Just like I have done for the past several years (2010, 2011) – my family and I headed out to the Tricolor Christmas Tree Farm. You know, the place where the trees are born.

It’s very important to get your tree early – as to have the pick of the very best trees – so that when Santa arrives on Christmas Eve he’ll be like:

“OMG this is the greatest tree ever, you deserve all the presents in my sack Ammo!”

Ammo the Dachshund // Christmas Tree Shopping

So when we arrived at the tree farm I wasted no time in choosing the very best tree on the lot! I just screamed holiday cheer!

I hurried along with dad to get my very precious tree to the car, because the most exciting part was next…….decorating it!

I’m pretty sure Santa will be very impressed.

Only 22 days until Christmas! I’m not sure I can wait that long! Ammo the Dachshund

Road Trip with Ammo – Thanksgiving in North Carolina

On my last full day in Asheville, North Carolina I got to spend Thanksgiving day with my friends and family.

Road Trip with Ammo the Dachshund // Thanksgiving Day

I spent most of the morning lounging on the front porch and soaking in the sun.

It was nice to spend the day relaxing with loved ones.

Eventually Trooper and I got bored though – and a wrestling match soon followed. It didn’t last long though, because dinner was soon to be ready.

Inside I shared a feast with my friends, including me new pal Arlo.

Arlo was way prepared for Thanksgiving in his tuxedo, and he had me feeling very under dressed.

All in all I spent a wonderful Thanksgiving day in Asheville and next time I return I hope I can listen to my Uncle Taylor’s band….I’ve already warned them that I play a mean set of drums…should the need arise.

The next day Trooper and I stuffed ourselves back into the car and headed towards our home in Pennsylvania. It’s nice to travel and experience the world, but there is nothing quite like coming home to your own bed! Ammo the Dachshund

Road Trip with Ammo – Hiking Graveyard Fields in Asheville, North Carolina

My pet-friendly shopping adventures last week in Asheville, North Carolina were quite fun, but as much as I love scoping out a good deal, I enjoy being out in nature so much more.

I made sure to do my fair share of hiking while I was in North Carolina, and one of my favorite hikes was the Graveyard Fields and Waterfalls along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

This particular 3 mile hike led me over bridges, up mountains and through scenic waterfalls.

Most of the time I led our pack of 6 humans and 2 dogs (me and Trooper), mostly because I’m a natural born leader, and also because Trooper was too concerned with herding our pack into a tidy little group than telling us which path to take (I blame his Australian Shepherd mother).

Pet Friendly Hiking along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Asheville, North Carolina // Ammo the Dachshund

I’m an adventuresome hiker, and took to the unbeaten path when possible – climbing rocks and jumping streams are my kind of fun.

When we reached one of our waterfall destinations I wasted no time in urging everyone to climb the cliffside and reach the top.

It was glorious from above, but I quickly realized the decent down wouldn’t be quite as easy.

Not to worry though, because even with my shorter than average legs I’m an excellent climber – not to mention I’m in peak physical shape – and I made it safely to the bottom.

I wish I could say the same for my pal Trooper, but he ended up taking the fast track down the mountain over a sheet of ice.

Luckily he has spider legs, and quickly recovered after splashing into the water at the bottom. I only wish I had caught it on film, because I probably would have won the grand prize on America’s Funniest Videos.

3 miles of hiking felt like a breeze to me, and I easily could have done another 10.

Mom and Dad promised we’d come back again someday though, perhaps in warmer weather. I can’t wait to return to Asheville for more hiking adventures.

At the end of the day it was nice to snuggle up in my blankies at the hotel, it feels good to be worn out, and I did need to rest up, because soon it would be THANKSGIVING!

Check back tomorrow to find out how I spent Turkey Day with my family. Ammo the Dachshund

One Last Adventure Before Bed

ammo the dachshund afternoon sun

In the wee afternoon hours as the sun begins to set I’m always reminded that my time outside for the day is coming to an end.

ammo the dachshund afternoon sun

In a panic I realize I only have a few short hours to finish up my outdoor adventures.

ammo the dachshund afternoon sun

There are important things to smell outside and the days just never seem long enough.

And more importantly I must get all my sniffing in quickly before my outdoor jungle succumbs to Dad’s lawnmower! The horror!

Kitty Love

The family farm is such a wonderful place, not only is it home to my magical Painting Pony friends, but it also home to the barn kitties, Spider & Cricket. One of the things that is so great about all my furry friends on the farm – everyone loves each other. I love the ponies & the kitties, the kitties love the ponies & me, and the ponies love everyone too! It’s one big happy family.

Tree Trimmer

Over the weekend it was “Apple Tree Trimming Time” at my house. Never being one to sit out of activities, I made sure to help Dad with the trimming.

Boy, no one said Apple Tree Trimming was such hard work!

Morning Ritual

You might remember that I told you all last month that I’m really not much of a morning dog. I drag my feet to get out of bed, and most of the time Mom has to make me go outside for my morning potty break before work.

So today I thought I’d show what actually happens when my feet hit the floor.

ammo the dachshund morning routine

Once I’m finally up and at-em I’m ready to get down to business.

ammo the dachshund morning routine

Sprinting out the door I gotta make sure there is no unwanted critters hiding in my yard. They tend to like to sneak in overnight.

ammo the dachshund morning routine

Today I got to scare a bird off – it was quite exciting.

ammo the dachshund morning routine

Then it’s time for my morning shake, before I take a lap around the yard to check for more intruders.

ammo the dachshund morning routine

Only today Mom is taking pictures of me. My plans have changed.

It’s back inside to stare at my cookie jar, because…..

.. “Mom I came inside all by myself and you didn’t even have to call me, I’m pretty sure I deserve cookies for that.”
