13 Project Update and Thanksgiving Wishes

We’re a day away from Thanksgiving, and it has me thinking of all the animals out there that don’t have a family to spend turkey day with. I wish I could open my door to every single one of them, but since that’s just not feasible I know I can help to do my part through my efforts with the 13 Project.

A few weeks ago Serena from Pretty Fluffy had invited me to join The 13 Project, a wonderful initiative to get involved and help animals!

THE 13 PROJECT

The 13 Project is a Pretty Fluffy initiative that involves 13 acts of kindness towards animals before 2013. The goal is to emmbark on a list of 13 achievable and worthy goals before the year is out.

To join, all you have to do is come up with a list of up to 13 ways you can help animals before the end of 2013. You don’t need to be a millionaire, you don’t need to have a website, or be a member of a rescue organization … all you need is the desire to make a difference. Any little bit helps!

I’ve spent the last few weeks working on completing some of my goals, so I thought I would give everyone a little update on my progress so far.

My goals for the 13 Project….

1. Make a charitable contribution to some of my favorite rescue groups, as I have done for the past several years, through the help of sales of my paintings and artwork that my friends the Painting Ponies have made.

2. Get my photo taken with Santa at a place that donates the profits to rescue groups like I have done for the past 3 years.

3. ~~Promote some local rescue group events to all of my followers through Facebook.~~ I have shared a few rescue events with my fans so far, but hope to share even more!

4. Purchase some toys from Planet Dog, where 2% of my sale goes to the Planet Dog Foundation, an organization that helps fund the training and placement of service dogs.

5. ~~Share some of the available adoptable dogs (like I have done in the past) at the local shelters with my followers.~~ I shared a few of the adoptable pets at my local SPCA, and I hope to continue to share some of my four-legged friends that are in search of their forever homes.

6. ~~Donate some of my old towels to a local animal shelter.~~ I took a trip to the Chester County SPCA and donated a big box of unwanted towels and blankets.

7. ~~Create Holiday Greeting Cards for my Etsy Shop and donate a percentage of the sales to animal shelters.~~ My 2012 Holiday Greeting Cards donate 2% of all the proceeds to the Main Line Animal Rescue. The more you buy the more I can donate!

8. Promote responsible pet ownership and encourage my readers to spay/neuter their pets.

9. ~~Donate some of my outgrown sweaters and jackets that I no longer use to a rescue group that can use them for shelter dogs.~~ I recently sent a donation of sweaters and jackets to the Dachshund Rescue of Bucks County & New Jersey to keep the rescue dachshunds nice and warm. I encourage you to do the same!

10. Create a new page on the blog that highlights ways you can involved and help rescue animals, shelters, and good causes.

11. Purchase some Rescue Chocolate as Christmas gifts that donates 100% of their profits to animal rescues.

12. ~~Try to promote more products on my Friday Fetch feature that donate a percentage of their sales to animal charities.~~ Since I joined the 13 Project I am happy to say that just about every feature on Friday Fetch has helped out a rescue group/cause with the sale of their items.

13. ~~Encourage others to get involved with the 13 Project!~~ I’ve been pinning and sharing the 13 Project with all my fans!

I still have a ways to go to complete my list, but I’m making good progress! I hope you’ll join me in The 13 Project! A Painting of My Best Friend Trooper

You might remember that over this past year I’ve been accumulating paintings created by the talented Kim at Yellow Brick Home. First she painted a magnificent painting of me in my super hero cape, then she painted two super cool paintings of my favorite ponies, Minnow, Blitz and Boomer.

Then I realized I needed to make sure my bestest friend in the whole wide world wasn’t left out of all the fun! He is my best friend afterall. So just last week Trooper’s painting from Yellow Brick Home arrived in the mail!

It was just as glorious as I had imagined – especially since I had made sure he sent in the very best pictures of himself.

Of course I couldn’t let Trooper steal the spotlight for very long, and I photo bombed pretty much all of his photos that my mom took of him.

P.S. Did you see that I wasn’t the only one that dressed as Wile E. Coyote for Halloween this year? My Canadian Pal Crusoe, the Celebrity Dachshund also broke out his Wile E. Coyote for all his fans. Although I hear he’s also having trouble with his Acme Rocket…..I knew we should have gotten the warranty!

Every year when Autumn rolls around I take the obligatory trip to Highland Orchards, home of the cider donut, pumpkin picking, fresh apples, canned preserves and goats!

Like most of the children there I humored my parents with having my photo taken in the fall cutouts.

But we all know there is really only one reason to take a trip to Highland Orchards (besides a bite of cider doughnut)…

…the goats!! Now last year the goats gave me the stink eye, so I was careful to be a bit weary the second time around.

I have to admit those fellows are starting to grow on me, even with their sharp pointy horns.

Although I was still somewhat relieved that there was a fence between me and them, after all I was sorely outnumbered.

I plan to visit the Highland Orchard goats again, if only to get on their good side, because Mom says we may be getting goats on the farm in the near future. Yikes!

Friday Fetch: White Faux Taxidermy Dog Busts

Don’t freak out, we’re not talking REAL Taxidermy here (which is sort of creepy if you ask me). You may recall that I’m a HUGE art lover (I work in a frame shop, paint pictures, and hang out with some famous painting ponies), so when I discovered White Faux Taxidermy on Etsy I was in love!

Not only do they create super cute replicas of animals, but just this week they came out with a line of charming dog bust statues. Sadly they do not carry a dachshund bust yet (although the hound dog looks awfully similar), but I’m still completely smitten.

Each faux animal is cast out of a polyresin material, thus making the sculpture fairly light in weight, great for hanging or displaying. You can even have your sculptures custom painted in any color imaginable. I’ll take one of each please!

Flying Hero Shop Launch and Giveaway

Some of you may have noticed already, but I’ve been keeping a little secret for the past couple of months, I’ve decided to open up my very own Etsy Shop, Flying Hero!

Aptly named after me, your friendly neighborhood flying hero, my etsy shop will be selling cute photographic prints, cards and even calendars (coming soon) with my mug on them!

My mom and I have been creating, making, and selling greeting cards in our retail shop for years now – but we decided it was high time we make them available to everyone.

Ponies, Dogs, and Movie Stars, Oh My!

You might remember that back in July the Painting Ponies and I began filming for the a brand new Painting Pony DVD. And while my Uncle Taylor still has lots of editing to do before we can release our big Trick Performances DVD, I just couldn’t wait any longer to share our new Intro Video for the website.

I know you are all on the edge of your seats in anticipation, so without dragging it out any longer, here it is in all it’s glory….

And to answer your question, yes, I did most of my scenes in the nude. You’re welcome. *wink*

Custom Pet Paintings – Ponies and Dogs Oh My!

You might remember a couple of months ago when I introduced my little Super Hero on the Wall – a commissioned painting of yours truly by Kim at Yellow Brick Home.

Well, as it turns out, my Painting Pony pals were a wee bit jealous – so never ones to be left out, mom ordered some custom paintings of them too.

Minnow rocked the blue canvas as he reared high into the air – such a classic Minnow pose.

Blitz and Boomerang, the inseparable brothers (who couldn’t even be separated for the painting), looked extra cute on their lime green canvas. Boomerang even flashed his famous smile.

Imagination Hat – Under the Sea

As you may already know, I’m on an imagination adventure while my pal Minnow the Painting Pony is performing at Pony Penning all week with my mom. Yesterday I went to outer space and today I’m on a journey Under the Sea!

I made sure to pack my flippers, and it’s a good thing I’m an excellent swimmer because I’m deep deep under the sea.

Just to be safe I rolled in the stinkiest thing I could find before going Under the Sea – so that I’ll be extra un-enticing to any sharks that come along. I hope.

Ammo the Movie Star is Here!

Ok, so maybe I won’t really be seeing my name on a star in Hollywood (a dog can dream) – but in the World of Magical Painting Ponies, I am a movie star! (and technically I have been on National Television before via Animal Planet – check it out here)

Last week my Uncle Taylor came to visit from his home in North Carolina. Taylor is an uber talented videographer and editor – shooting weddings, commercials, documentaries, training videos, and much much more. And guess what…..he brought his video equipment with him!

The name of the game was filming some brand new videos for Painting Pony.

And although my pony friends did make a shining appearance on these new videos – we all know who the real star is…

…me!

I had some big important roles, and don’t worry, I totally gave it 110%.

I even got to do some serious action shots – with multiple takes!

I also got to perform on the video with my bestest buddy Trooper.

It was aaaaamazing!

And, incase you are wondering – yes I did my own stunts!

I can hardly wait to see the finished product, and as soon as it’s done I’ll be sure to let everyone know! And if you are counting down the days to see yours truly on DVD, you can check out The Trick Ponies of Chincoteague DVD which has my happy little face on it too.
