Cat in the Hat

Sometimes we wrestle. Sometimes we go hunting. Sometimes we sunbathe. And other times…….we like to wear silly hats together.

This is Spider – and she would like to be a painter too. So I let her borrow my beret.

Sometimes I have trouble sharing. Don’t tell my mom.

DIY $5 Rope Dog Leash

So mom noticed lately that I’ve been ooh and ahhing over this trendy rope leash from Mungo & Maud. And while I’ll always think it’s super stylin’ – $110 for a new leash for me just wasn’t in the budget.

Instead, on a recent trip to a tack shop in Delaware – mom came up with a plan to make me my very own Rope Leash. For $5!

D.I.Y. $5 Rope Dog Leash

Supplies: cotton horse lead rope, hammer, rope clamp

Step One: You will need to obtain a cotton horse leadrope. I got mine at a horse tack shop for $3. You can also get them online* and at most tack supply places. Or check your local horse supply store.

Step Two: You will need to buy a clamp to make the end of your rope into a handle. I bought a package of two (you know, incase I need a rope leash for my best pal Trooper) for $4.39 (about $2 for each one) at the local hardware store. Most hardware stores should carry them in the rope section, and you can find them online*.

Step 3: Figure out how big of a handle you want at the other end and adjust your rope into the clamp accordingly. It also helps to have a cute little dachshund around for supervision.

Step 4: You will need the help of your dad to hammer the clamp shut around the rope.

Then Tada! You are ready for your next walk in your stylish dog leash!

If you don’t have access to a horse lead rope, you can also use any cotton rope. You will just need too metal rope clamps and a snap for the end – all supplies can be found at the local hardware store.

Yeah, you know you want to beg your mom or dad to make you one of these bad boys!

I think I need one of these in every color! Almost as good as the real thing…..

The Training of a Super Dog

These are my two best friends. Minnow the Painting Pony and Trooper. All three of us do lots of things together. Minnow and I get to perform together as Super Pony and Super Dog. Trooper and I mostly just wrestle. I’ve been feeling kinda bad that Trooper doesn’t get to go on big trips with me and Minnow, so I decided to do something special for him.

I’ve decided to take him on as my protege and train him to be MY sidekick, Super Trooper!

Minnow pretty much busted out laughing when I told him this.

After all, Trooper is a little big to fit through my hoop.

But I’m a pretty good trainer – so I know I’ll get my pal Trooper set straight! After all, he only has about 4 weeks to prepare for his…..

…… FIRST PERFORMANCE!

And the best part is …..Trooper has to perform in front of all my Dachshund friends at the Keystone Dachshund Races! It is certain to be epic!

Don’t worry, I told him I’d perform with him as the Star of the Show (so no one will notice too much when he messes up). So if you don’t want to miss Trooper’s debut performance – and my amazing wonderfulness, be sure to come to the Keystone Dachshund Races and watch us perform at lunch time! Admission is $2 – but it goes to charity!

P.S. I’ll be racing for Charity too! Although no promises on a winning race – I hear last year’s champion, Mr. Monkey, will be back to defend his title. I’m shaking in my boots!

Oh and in case I don’t embarrass myself enough on this blog. Here’s some photos from my first dachshund races when I was just 8 months old.

At least I won something.

The End.

My trip to School

When my mom told me we were going to school, I was super excited. If there is one thing I do know, it’s that kids LOVE to feed dogs! But what I wasn’t expecting was the 4am wake up call!

I had had a super busy Mother’s Day the day before – so it was really hard for me to drag myself out of bed – even for the kids.

But I pulled it together the best that I could, and me and Cricket helped mom pack the horse trailer. See we were headed to the Renaissance Academy to teach the kids all about Misty of Chincoteague (you know from the famous kid’s book). When we got there mom had to give a talk to all the kids about Misty, but I made sure she also mentioned Alex, Misty’s Dachshund sidekick.

Photo from Life Magazine

Seriously how cool is it that Misty also had a super cool dachshund sidekick too! Did you know he did tricks too? He could jump through a hoop, climb a ladder, and he even liked to dress up in doll clothes. We totally would have been best friends. I’ll have to write a post later with more about my brother from another mother, Alex!

Later Minnow and I performed our famous skit, Super Pony vs. Super Dog. The kids laughed like crazy when I got to wear my stunt helmet – one kid even wanted to know if I could do a back flip. I think I’ll definitely have to learn……just for you kid…..because you think I’m cool enough to do a back flip.

I was even filmed for a new video my Uncle Taylor is going to make. I’m sure I’ll be the star.

After each performance Minnow and I got to walk around so the kids could pet us. Well ok, Minnow walked, and I got carried. I won’t lie, I took the opportunity to take a nap.

Yeah, I was pretty popular – lots of kids even wanted my autograph!

By the end of our visit I was pooped!

Even Super dogs need to take naps sometime!

I may not be follically-challenged (at least yet…..well aside from my bare belly), but that doesn’t mean I couldn’t have a blast dawning these hilarious doggie hair do’s from Bitch New York.

Seriously, how laughable would I be in a Sarah Palin wig, or with a Shirley Temple do?

All the wigs come with a strap that can be adjusted for each dog. The wigs are light and comfortable to wear, and are also restyle-able.

You can fetch your own stylin’ wig over at Bitch New York.

$24 – $50

UPDATE – these products are unfortunately no longer available.

I was not paid or perk’d to share this product. I just think it’s totally pawesome!

Capeless Super Dog

It’s that time of year again. Time to break out my super helmet & super cape and start practicing all of my super skills! Because this super dog is going to school!

Really.

Apparently next week me and my pal Minnow the Painting Pony are taking a trip to an elementary school! I have to know something about the famous Misty of Chincoteague – you know – from the children’s book. Something tells me I better get the cliff notes, that or maybe Minnow will let me copy off of him if there’s a test.

Regardless on being a little behind on my reading assignments, I have been practicing really hard.

Oh, what’s happening over there?

Spider & Cricket are off on a hunting expedition without me?

Sorry, my super hero duties will have to wait until later! I’ve got some hunting to do!

P.S. Super Heroes are a lot more SUPER when SOMEONE remembers to bring their SUPER CAPE to practice. Honestly. I would have made my hoop jump had I had my special cape!

Afternoon Snack

Ok. This is your warning now. If you have a weak stomach, do not read any further. If you are eating breakfast, lunch, or dinner, do not read any further. I am not responsible for any discomfort that might happen upon you after you read what’s next. You have been warned!

That being said, this is what I look like most afternoons on the farm. Rummaging around for what can only be described as the perfect afternoon snack – well at least to most dogs.

It takes a little searching, but eventually I find what I’m looking for.

Yum Yum.

*Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Balloons

Boy did I have a fun Easter! How about you? Don’t worry, I plan to tell you all about it in a few days – but first I remembered I forgot to tell you about something I did last week!

Remember the baby shower I got to go to last Sunday? Well I can’t believe I forgot to tell you that mom actually let me help set up for it! I know right, she never lets me help!

The best part….it involved Balloons of all things!

I guess I can sorta understand why mom doesn’t usually let me help with things like these….because I had a little accident….

We had one Balloon casualty. But it’s not my fault…..it’s really hard to tie a knot when all you have are paws! Sigh.

Hippity Hop

Oh hey. I guess you’re wondering what I’m up to for Easter.

Well I knew the Easter Bunny should hopefully be making a trip to my house. But I’ve been a little naughty lately. I’ve been having a little fun chasing the Easter Bunny’s friends in my back yard. I know I shouldn’t, but honestly it’s just way too much fun. So I was a tad worried that the Easter Bunny might skip over my house this year.

So since I’m so smart, I came up with a really good disguise so that he was sure to come visit me….

What do you think? I could totally pass as a bunny right?

Well, you’ll have to excuse me, because now I’m off to hunt for my Easter basket. I really hope my disguise worked! I’ll really be sad if I miss out on all those yummy Easter Eggs!

Happy Easter Egg Hunting!

xoxo Your Pal,

Ammo the Dachshund Bunny

Friday Fetch: Pinterest

Ok, this might not exactly fall under the category of dog, but for a design-loving pooch like me (who also happens to work in a custom frame shop), it had me at hello.

Pinterest is sorta like a virtual pinboard — a place where you can create collections of things you love and “follow” collections created by people (or dogs like me) with great taste. You can use Pinterest to collect and share all sorts of things — wedding inspiration, favorite T-shirts, Dog collars. You name it, someone is pinning it. So when my mom heard about it over one of her favorite blogs, Young House Love, she just knew we had to check it out.

One of the first things I searched for when I logged on was (of course) the word Dachshund. And you will never guess what popped up at the top of the search results!?

That’s my scratch art! How totally cool!

So as luck would have it, mom said I could make my own little “inspiration board” – where I could share all the cool things I’m loving. You can check out my board here. And here’s a little sneak preview of my work in progress….

So if you sign up for an account be sure to follow along on our Pinterest Page, where you can not only follow my likes, but the Painting Ponies’, and even some things that catch my mom’s eye.
