National Hat Day

National Hat Day with Ammo the Dachshund

Do you see this picture of me? While I’m super adorable and all (we all knew that), there is something missing, something really important on today of all days.

National Hat Day with Ammo the Dachshund

It’s a hat! Because today I’m told, is National Hat Day! And since I couldn’t just wear any old hat, mom helped me make a few fun paper hats so I could have a little dress up fun.

Birthday Week: DIY Easy Paper Bowtie

Birthday Week: Easy DIY Paper Bowtie // Ammo the Dachshund

Since tomorrow I officially turn SIX, I thought I would pop in today to give you a quick an easy DIY so that you can celebrate along with me tomorrow in style! This DIY is so simple and easy you can probably make it with items you find around your house. Here’s how…..

Birthday Week: Easy DIY Paper Bowtie // Ammo the Dachshund

Supplies:

  • Kraft Paper (from my shop or you could even use scrap paper or newspaper)
  • Washi Tape (or any colorful tape)
  • Baker’s Twine (from my shop, or any fun ribbon/string you have laying around)

Birthday Week: Easy DIY Paper Bowtie // Ammo the Dachshund

Step 1: Tear or cut a scrap of paper into a long rectangle shape and wad up into a ball. The longer and wider the paper the bigger the bowtie will be.

Step 2: Flatten out your paper and fold the two rectangle ends into the middle, overlapping at the center.

Step 3: Pinch the center where the paper overlaps and wrap some washi tape around the center to hold it into place.

Step 4: Wrap some Baker’s Twine around the center and tie leaving the ends long so that you can tie it onto your dog’s collar.

Letting it All Out

Did you ever have one of those days where you just want to scream at the top of your lungs out of frustration? Well I had one of those days yesterday.

See, what I thought would be a nice little day off at home turned into an unexpected (on my part apparently) visit to the vet to get my lyme vaccine shot, nails trimmed, and my butt cleaned. Yea, not really what I wanted to be doing.

When I got home from my little excursion I was just grumpy. Grumpy from being poked and proded, and all I wanted to do was yell really really loud. Only dogs can’t yell.

So instead, mom let me do the next best thing. She let me shred one of her magazines.

It might not look very exciting to you, but you know what, when I was all done ripping that thing to bits I felt way better!

P.S. Don’t worry, I recycled all the pages afterwards, because I’m responsible like that.

Birthday Week: DIY Dachshund Gift Wrap

ammo the dachshund birthday weekIt’s no surprise that I belong to a family of artists. My Dad is a graphic designer, my Mom is a custom framer & artist, and my pony friends (as well as myself) are painters – so when we wrap gifts – we go all artsy fartsy! Because the presentation is everything! (well at least until you rip that thing to shreds).

Even though today is my Birthday, my mom says I’m not allowed to open any presents until tonight when Dad can watch too….what a bummer! I bet you are waiting in anticipation just like I am! So hopefully this DIY DACHSHUND GIFT WRAP TUTORIAL (aka how to make your pup’s Birthday extra special) will help hold you over until it’s time to rip open my gifts.

So here’s a little inside look at how my Mom made my Birthday presents extra special this year!

2. Transfer your pencil drawing onto the rubber stamp carving material by burnishing the back of it using your bone folder. Using a credit card would also work too. Then with an exacto knife cut your drawings out of the block.

3. Carve out your rubber stamp using your tools. You can test the stamp periodically by inking & stamping it onto a piece of scrap paper.

4. Stamp your design all over the kraft paper. Then using a thin-line sharpie connect the balloon shape to your dachshund.

Friday Fetch: Papercut Pet Portrait

In honor of me being a painter now, I thought I’d share another artist with you today. Check out these super cool custom pet portraits. I think Lemon Drop Land would totally be worthy of making a special portrait of yours truly – complete with super hero cape (P.S. my Birthday is in October!)

To create the papercut, I’ll begin with a sketch of the (fairly high resolution) photo that you email me. Once I’m happy with the likeness and “feel,” I’ll slice the image out of subtly textured, sturdy, acid-free, highly light-resistant, 60% cotton papers, ensuring a long life without deterioration. Each piece is signed and dated.

You can fetch your favorite pet’s portrait for $200 at Lemon Drop Land on Etsy.

And if you just so happen to own a Boxer then you are in luck! Pre-cut Boxer portrait – $80 at Lemon Drop Land. I’m a little jealous that it’s not a Dachshund!

P.S. You can also LIKE LemondropLand over on Facebook.
