Nylon Dog Chew with an Extra Kick from @PetQwerks + A Giveaway

My new friends over at Pet Qwerks recently came out with a new dog chew called the Flavorit™ that I think your dogs are going to love! Now if your dog likes to chew (as most dogs do), this is a new Nylon bone that they’re going to love sinking their teeth into.

Nylon Dog Chew with an Extra Kick from @PetQwerks + A Giveaway

The Flavorit comes in 8 different flavors that are infused into the nylon bones and is available in 4 sizes. They also come in a Flex version for moderate chewers as well as the standard version for tough chewers.

Since I’m a very aggressive chewer I decided to start out with the standard version (later I did test out the Flex, but it’s not the best fit for me since I am so aggressive with my chewing).

Now you may have noticed the tiny little holes on each side of the Flavorit. They are what make this nylon bone so unique! Not only is each bone flavored as is, but you can also fill each of these tiny flavor cells with your dog’s favorite soft spread like peanut butter, cheese, cream cheese or anything else soft.

Nylon Dog Chew with an Extra Kick from @PetQwerks + A Giveaway

Both sides of the Flavorit have a concave design so that the messy treats you put on your bone end up in your dog’s mouth (or the bone) and not on the carpet. Mom found it helpful to wipe off any excess peanut butter with a paper towel before she gave it to me so that I for sure wouldn’t make a mess on anything I wasn’t supposed to.

I have to say the standard Flavorit held up quite well to my big chompers, and the added peanut butter flavor (which is my favorite) really kept me busy for quite some time.

Mom even let me chew on it on her brand-new carpet….and it really was mess-free! (or I would of been in big trouble).

The Flavorit is made in the USA of 100% nylon and is even dishwasher safe (if your dog can’t get all the flavor out on their own!).

Martha Stewart Pets Natural Treats Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Martha Stewart Pets recently came out with a line of Natural Dog Treats available exclusively in Petsmart Stores and online. I was thrilled when I got to test out a few of these goodies from the Treat Shop, because this dog never says no to cookies!

Martha Stewart Pets Natural Treats Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

Martha Stewart’s line of treats was inspired by the delicious bakery goodies that humans can’t get enough of. It was discovered during testing that dogs love flavors like Peanut Butter Cookie and Pumpkin Pie just as much as people do! And I can totally confirm that!

The Martha Stewart Pets Natural Dog Biscuits are American-made and contain a simple list of natural ingredients.

Tips on Crate Training Your Adult Dog #CrateHappyPets // Ammo the Dachshund For PetsmartThis post is sponsored by PetSmart®, and the BlogPaws Professional Pet Blogger Network. Tips on Crate Training Your Adult Dog #CrateHappyPets // Ammo the Dachshund For Petsmart

Ok, full disclosure here, when I was a puppy I failed crate training. Yes, it’s true. I barked and cried and threw out all the stubborn dachshund tricks until my mom and dad caved. That was 6 years ago though, and although I may not be the perfect poster dog for loving my crate, I am learning that it’s not such a bad place to be after all.

Tips on Crate Training Your Adult Dog #CrateHappyPets // Ammo the Dachshund For Petsmart

As an adult dog I’ve learned that there are many benefits to crate training and I should learn to be one of the many #CrateHappyPets out there.

Reasons why you might need to put your pet in a crate:

  • Your pet becomes injured and needs to be on crate rest
  • Traveling in a carrier by plane or the need to be crated in a hotel to keep pets out of trouble
  • Great for pets with separation anxiety when you leave home
  • Dog agility events where there is a need to kennel pets between events
  • Pet safety and keeping them out of areas that are hazardous

Yet the number one reason that my mom and dad decided to take the plunge and FINALLY crate train me was to keep me from begging for food at dinner time! I guess my cute puppy dog eyes were becoming too much for them to resist!

Tips on Crate Training Your Adult Dog #CrateHappyPets // Ammo the Dachshund For Petsmart

Since I’m probably not the only dog out there that was/is resistant to crate training I’ve decided to share some of my tips on how I learned to love my kennel!

Ammo’s Tips for Crate Training an Adult Dog:

TIP 1: Pad your dog’s crate with something extra soft! If you have to, double up the dog beds, no dog wants to sleep on the hard plastic bottom of a crate. Simply switching out my crate pad for something extra soft made me want to take naps in there instead of anywhere else! For a bonus you can add a pet-safe heating pad, because that’s just icing on the cake!

TIP 2: Give your dog something extra special when they are in their crate. I love a toy stuffed with peanut butter (and if you freeze it, it lasts even longer – plus there is no risk of choking when mom and dad are gone). In the beginning my mom would let me chew on something tasty inside the crate (while the door was open) to get used to being in there.

Tips on Crate Training Your Adult Dog #CrateHappyPets // Ammo the Dachshund For Petsmart

TIP 3: Cover the top of your crate with a blanket or crate cover. Us dogs are den animals, and sometimes being snuggled up in a dark area makes us feel safe and secure.

Tips on Crate Training Your Adult Dog #CrateHappyPets // Ammo the Dachshund For Petsmart

TIP 4: Build duration in the crate slowly over time with routine. My parents started me out with the routine of going into my crate every evening at their dinner time. I started out by just being closed in for a minute or 2 a night, and built up to longer lengths over several months.

TIP 5: Practice your crate training in many different places. You can even play some crate training games with your pup to get them to look forward to going inside.

So hopefully my crate training tips have you all excited to get started with your pup too, now all you need is a crate!

Great news, my friends over at Petsmart® are having a SALE ON CRATES, KENNELS, CARRIERS, AND ACCESSORIES all this month, and you can grab one for a steal.

Movies in the Park

Movie in the Park // Ammo the Dachshund

Last week I went on a fun “end of the summer” adventure with mom and dad to watch an outdoor movie in my local park.

Movie in the Park // Ammo the Dachshund

And as if the sadness of Summer ending weren’t enough already, it was even chilly enough that I had to wear my sweatshirt!

Movie in the Park // Ammo the Dachshund

But despite the cooler weather, I was still pretty excited to roll out my Park It Mat and watch the classic movie, The Sandlot.

Movie in the Park // Ammo the Dachshund

There were lots of kids in attendance for the movie, but not too many of the furry four legged kind. That’s ok though, more popcorn for me!

Movie in the Park // Ammo the Dachshund

Only mom didn’t bring me any popcorn (the horror!), instead I had my strawberry toy stuffed with peanut butter to snack on. Can’t say I can complain!

Watching The Sandlot under the stars was a fantastic way to wrap up my Summer. But don’t worry, I still have a few more summery things to squeeze in before it ends! Ammo the Dachshund

Hide n’ Seek with your Dog

Disclaimer : This is a sponsored post brought to you by Chewy.

Sometimes on rainy days or days where I have to spend a little extra time indoors mom likes to play a fun game with me.

Hide n’ Seek is quickly becoming one of my favorite games, and I’m getting quite good at it (even when blindfolded!). Keep reading to find out how you can play this game with your dog!

Hide n' Seek with your Dog // Nature's Prairie All Natural Oven-Baked Biscuits // Chewy.com // Ammo the Dachshund

To start you need some yummy treats. I decided to use this package of Nature’s Variety Prairie All Natural Oven-Baked Biscuits from my friends over at Chewy.com.

Hide n' Seek with your Dog // Nature's Prairie All Natural Oven-Baked Biscuits // Chewy.com // Ammo the Dachshund

These peanut butter and banana cookies contain no corn, wheat, soy, artificial preservatives, colors or flavors and are made right here in the USA!

So to get my game of Hide n’ Seek started mom asks me to sit and wait (sometimes in the same room, other times in another room so I can’t see), and then she hides my cookies all around the room.

Once their hidden she releases me to find them!

See why this game is so fun!

Birthday Cookies

Birthday Presents and Homemade Cookies // Ammo the Dachshund

My 5th Birthday landed on Saturday this year, and while you probably already saw what I had fun unwrapping, there was one other special gift from my best friend Trooper that I wanted to share with you!

Birthday Presents and Homemade Cookies // Ammo the Dachshund

Thoughtful Trooper gifted me a box of bake at home dog cookies from Dog Joy. I was just dying to bake these all natural oatmeal and peanut butter cookies, so on Saturday night mom helped me pop them into the oven.

After putting them on a baking sheet and popping them in the oven I had to wait an unbearably long ten minutes for them to cook. It was torture I tell you.

But when they popped out of the oven smelling of peanut butter goodness it was totally worth the wait! Thanks to my pal Trooper for making sure my tummy never goes hungry! Ammo the Dachshund

Ammo the Dachshund // Birthday Week // Carrot and Banana Dog Treat Recipe

Image via 17 Apart

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium banana (ripe)
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applejuice
  • 1/8 cup water (maybe more, as needed)
  • 1 1/2 cup whole wheat flour (keep some handy for rolling)
  • 1 cup rolled oats

Ammo the Dachshund // Birthday Week // Carrot and Banana Dog Treat Recipe
Image via 17 Apart

Directions: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees, lightly spraying a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray and sprinkling a little flour onto the surface you’re planning to use to roll out the dough. In a medium bowl, mash up the banana and mix in the shredded carrots. Then add water and apple juice. Stir. Next, add the oats and flour. Stir all of the ingredients together until they are thoroughly combined.

Using your hands, knead the mixture until a dough forms. Dump the dough onto the lightly floured surface that you prepared earlier. Roll it out until it’s about a half inch thick. Using a cookie cutter, cut into 3″ pieces. Place the pieces onto your lightly sprayed baking sheet. Bake the dog treats for 25 minutes.

Before “serving”, let them cool completely. Here’s a tip that you may find useful: If your dog likes a little more crunch to his treats, then turn off the oven and let the treats cool there overnight.

I don’t know about you, but I’m totally drooling! Ammo the Dachshund
