Lets face it, Summer is H O T! Which is why my mom helped me come up with a fantastic way to help you and your pup cool off this summer. These super easy DIY Frozen Dog Treats are the perfect way to spend a hot day!

Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

Blender*
3 Ripe Bananas
1/2 Cup of Peanut Butter
Silicone cupcake liners (you could also use a cupcake tray, or these plastic cups)*
Spoon

Now before we dive into how to make these frozen treats, I bet you’re wondering what the Happy Lapper is. It’s this super cool frozen dog treat holder designed and created for dogs by a small business owner in my home state of Pennsylvania! It makes eating frozen treats a snap for all the dogs out there, and I’ll show you just how to use it after I share how to make these 2 ingredient frozen treats.

I decided to make 2 ingredient treats (all you need is bananas and peanut butter) because most frozen treats for dogs have yogurt in them. While yogurt is super yummy, I actually have a sensitivity to dairy (just like my mom who is lactose intolerant) so I tend to steer clear of the yogurt!

So all you need to get started is your 3 bananas and your 1/2 cup of peanut butter.

Simply pop them in the blender and mix those two yummy things up into a fine paste! You’ll notice I was getting my treat making on outside, mostly because if you remember, my kitchen looks like this right now. But the great news is, you don’t even need a functioning kitchen to make these treats!

Then simply dish out the mixture evenly into your cupcake liners (or whatever you choose to use) and pop them in the freezer until frozen.

While you wait for your treats to freeze, it’s perfectly ok to lick the spoon. You can’t let any of the yumminess go to waste!

The Happy Lapper Frozen Treat Holder was going to be a great addition to my upcoming snack. It’s also dishwasher safe and made from 100% non toxic materials.

Once your treats are frozen you simply pop them into the Happy Lapper (I decided to leave mine in the cupcake liners, but you can also pop them out if you prefer).

Then place the Happy Lapper on the floor for your dog to enjoy! The Happy Lapper has a non-skid base to keep it from moving around while your dog licks it. I can’t tell you how annoying it is to lick a treat and have it slide all around the house (or worse it slides so much you have to make your mom or dad hold it for you!).

I’m such a nice guy, that I decided to share my frozen treats with my best pal Trooper.

Trooper’s Happy Lapper got placed under the leg of a chair to keep it even more securely in place, and you could even have your mom or dad hold it down with their foot too. Mom thought this was a neat idea for dogs who might like to steal each other’s treats (of course I would NEVER do that), because you could put their treats under the leg of a chair at opposite ends of the house.

Smarty pants Trooper also got creative and figured out how to hold his treat down himself. (I could have done that too if I had really wanted….he’s not the only smart one around here!)

Wrapping up the 13 Project

Now that it’s 2013 it’s time to wrap up my journey with the 13 Project.

Several months ago Serena from Pretty Fluffy had invited me to join The 13 Project, a wonderful initiative to get involved and help animals! So I put on my cape and decided to be the best hero I could to help the animals in need!

THE 13 PROJECT

The 13 Project is a Pretty Fluffy initiative that involves 13 acts of kindness towards animals before 2013. The goal is to embark on a list of 13 achievable and worthy goals before the year is out.

To join, all you have to do is come up with a list of up to 13 ways you can help animals before the end of 2013. You don’t need to be a millionaire, you don’t need to have a website, or be a member of a rescue organization … all you need is the desire to make a difference. Any little bit helps!

I’ve spent the last few months working on completing my goals, and although I squeezed a few of them in at the very last minute, I love to think I helped make a difference.

My goals for the 13 Project….

1. Make a charitable contribution to some of my favorite rescue groups, as I have done for the past several years, through the help of sales of my paintings and artwork that my friends the Painting Ponies have made.

The Painting Ponies and I made some donations to The Chincoteague Pony Rescue and The Main Line Animal Rescue this year to help some of the animals searching for their forever homes. I like to think that every little bit helps, and I’m happy to use some of the funds from the sale of my products throughout the year to help some of the rescue organizations.

2. ~~Get my photo taken with Santa at a place that donates the profits to rescue groups like I have done for the past 3 years.~~

I went to visit Santa at my Vet’s office this year in which the proceeds benefited the Hurricane Sandy Disaster Relief Fund for the animals.

3. ~~Promote some local rescue group events to all of my followers through Facebook.~~ I have shared a few rescue events with my fans so far, but hope to share even more!

4. ~~Purchase some toys from Planet Dog, where 2% of my sale goes to the Planet Dog Foundation, an organization that helps fund the training and placement of service dogs.~~

Mom and Dad got me some new toys from Planet Dog for Christmas this year! I’m so happy that through the sale of these items I was able to help some very special service dogs.

5. ~~Share some of the available adoptable dogs (like I have done in the past) at the local shelters with my followers.~~ I shared a few of the adoptable pets at my local SPCA, and I hope to continue to share some of my four-legged friends that are in search of their forever homes.

6. ~~Donate some of my old towels to a local animal shelter.~~ I took a trip to the Chester County SPCA and donated a big box of unwanted towels and blankets.

7. ~~Create Holiday Greeting Cards for my Etsy Shop and donate a percentage of the sales to animal shelters.~~ My 2012 Holiday Greeting Cards donate 2% of all the proceeds to the Main Line Animal Rescue.

8. ~~Promote responsible pet ownership and encourage my readers to spay/neuter their pets.~~

This particular goal may have slipped through the cracks just a bit, but consider this my public service announcement for 2013! Please spay and neuter your pets! I got the good old snip snip when I was 6 months old and I encourage you to do the same for your pets. We have so many animals that are in need of loving homes, and by having your pet neutered you are doing your part to cut down on the population of dogs in shelters. Check out these great reasons from the ASPCA as to why it’s important to spay and neuter.

9. ~~Donate some of my outgrown sweaters and jackets that I no longer use to a rescue group that can use them for shelter dogs.~~ I sent a donation of sweaters and jackets to the Dachshund Rescue of Bucks County & New Jersey to keep the rescue dachshunds nice and warm. I encourage you to do the same!

10. ~~Create a new page on the blog that highlights ways you can involved and help rescue animals, shelters, and good causes.~~

Just under the wire I’ve launched a new page on my website! You’ll find my giving back link at the bottom of the blog, which features tips on how you can get involved with helping the rescue animals and how I give back myself.

11. ~~Purchase some Rescue Chocolate as Christmas gifts that donates 100% of their profits to animal rescues.~~

Mom helped me purchase some rescue chocolate which I happily wrapped and gifted to my friends and family this Holiday season.

We’re a day away from Thanksgiving, and it has me thinking of all the animals out there that don’t have a family to spend turkey day with. I wish I could open my door to every single one of them, but since that’s just not feasible I know I can help to do my part through my efforts with the 13 Project.

The Goods

Yesterday was Valentine’s Day. Which means that not only did I get to hang out with my Valentine, but I also got some goodies from my Mom & Dad – because they love me so much!

I made out pretty good this year! Mom made me some no-bake healthy treats from a recipe on Pretty Fluffy. Yum Yum.

And then I got some new dog toys from Planet Dog. These toys are my absolute favorite! So far they are pretty indestructible (which mom likes – but I’m determined to prove her wrong), and they have a minty flavor that’s oh-so-tasty. I could play fetch with my new toys for hours!
