The Mutt Room

On Saturday I took a trip to the Devon Horse Show Grounds for the Fall Classic Jumper Show.

The Devon Show Grounds are known to be an uber friendly dog place, meaning dogs are allowed in the shops (many of which carry items for pets), we can sit in the stands with our humans, and we even have our very own water fountains.

Now I’m no stranger to Devon, however during this particular trip I did something a little unexpected and different.

Ammo the Dachshund // Devon Fall Classic // The Mutt Room

I took a trip to The Mutt Room! The Mutt Room is a mini portrait studio run by Brenda Carpenter (the official photographer for Devon events), and is designed so that your 4 legged friend can get a personal portrait session. Now seeing that I can never pass up the opportunity to get my picture taken, I just had to see what it was like to be in a professional studio.

Inside the studio it was filled with super fun dog portraits and there were treats and toys everywhere! This was totally my kind of adventure.

Brenda said I was a natural behind the camera as I showed her all of my amazing poses. I can hardly contain my excitement to see the results of my photoshoot – I’m sure my photos will make all the ladies swoon!

And now that I’m officially a pro behind the camera, I may just have to get an agent and start booking magazine shoots. I have no doubt you’ll see me on the cover of Vogue and Sports Illustrated someday soon!

P.S. Brenda does personal portraits of your pets! Check out her website to see how to book!Ammo the Dachshund

Friday Fetch: The Clicker Leash

I don’t talk a lot about the training methods my mom uses with me on the blog (but I should!), but since I was just a wee pup my mom has been using clicker training with me. Clicker training is a positive training method for animals using a clicker or small mechanical noisemaker, as a marker for behavior.

In fact, since my mom knew that us Dachshunds are one of the hardest dogs to house train (it’s true), she began clicker training me from the start to do my business outside. I’m proud to say I am completely house trained now (even if it did take me a little longer than the average pooch) thanks to the clicker. Now had we known about the Clicker Leash from the start, this totally would have been a must have item for me when I was learning the potty basics.

Ammo the Dachshund // Friday Fetch // Clicker Leash

The Clicker Leash puts effective, humane training methods at your fingertips by merging a clicker with an ergonomic, lightweight leash handle. The Clicker Leash makes reward-based training convenient and fun while eliminating juggling and fumbling. Whether you are training your puppy, working on basic life skills with an adult dog or competing in canine sports the Clicker Leash puts your clicker where you need it, when it counts. As long as you have your dog’s leash, your favourite training tool is on hand!

Busy Weekend on the Farm

Phew! I don’t know about you, but I had a busy weekend!

Ammo the Dachshund on the Farm

I spent most of my time on the farm, helping to run the horse show, and even doing a little construction work.

Ammo the Dachshund on the Farm

Well, I may have squeezed in some quality time with my ponies too.

Ammo the Dachshund on the Farm

So after my busy weekend, I’m looking a little bit like this. And it was so wild in fact that I even lost my collar – somewhere on the farm! (Mom and I are off to search for it this morning).

But not to worry, I should be fully recovered from weekend-overdose tomorrow – and I’ll be back to share my exciting weekend adventures with you! Ammo the Dachshund

Friday Fetch: Supercollar

The name Supercollar immediately peaked my interest, as I had secret hopes that it was a high-tech collar with gadgets and thing-a-ma-jigs fit for any super dog. Alas, it may not contain laser beams or rockets, but it does have a built in leash.

Supercollar is the first dog collar with a built-in retractable leash designed to make life easier for you and to keep your dog safe. With supercollar, your dog is always carrying its own leash!

Can I see some ID?

As dogs we wear our names, phone numbers, and addresses around our necks for the world to see. And while this may not bode well for any dogs out there wishing to blend in as members of the secret service and whatnot – I consider my own id tags a badge of honor.

Ammo the Dachshund // Stylish Pet ID Tags

Wearing an ID tag around my neck means that there is someone that loves me and cares whether I return home safely or not – not that I make it a point to go galavanting around the neighborhood in hot pursuit of bunnies or anything. Nah, I’ve certainly never done that before. *wink*

So since wearing my name and number around my neck on a daily basis is a necessity – who says they can’t be stylish at the same time? Recently I picked up a few new ID tags to add to my collection, because you never know which one will go better with your outfit on any given day.

This silver fox I picked up from the ID Store and it dawns the logo of my recent certification of Canine Good Citizen. Ideal for those days when I’m feeling extra citizenly.

Next up is a tag that seems to have been made especially for me (in fact it was) from Cropscotch. You may remember I shared them a few weeks ago during my Friday Fetch Blog Feature. This unique wooden tag reminds me of how super I really am – and it goes great with my bulging muscles, don’t you think?

Ammo the Dachshund // Stylish Pet ID Tags

And my final accessory for the day is an adorable horseshoe tag (from the mascot collection) sent to me from my pals at Blanket Id. This tag is extra special because it contains a website link on the back that tells you everything you need to know about me should I get lost and makes it extra easy to find my human.

Ammo the Dachshund // Stylish Pet ID Tags

Lately I’ve taken to wearing two tags at once – mostly pairing my Blanket Id with one of the others – because really, one can never have too many accessories. You also might notice that each of my id tags has their own Rubit Clip, which is a secure clip that easily lets you move id tags from collar to collar – because one can also never have too many collars! But we’ll have to save my collar collection for another post.

Along with wearing proper id I am also microchipped. And while I’m still not certain if said microchip isn’t just there to transmit secret data to the government for some big conspiracy – Mom assures me she had it implanted for my safety only. The verdict is still out on that one. Ammo the Dachshund

The Elusive Golden Bear

When I took a trip over the weekend to visit the flea markets in Kutztown, Pa – I didn’t just end my adventure with pillaging for buried treasures. No, there was another reason to travel north – to hunt for the elusive Golden Bear.

Ammo the Dachshund visits Kutztown University // The Golden Bear

See Mom and Dad both attended Kutztown University, home of the Golden Bear – a magical creature I’m sure, and I was dead set on finding said bear.

Ammo the Dachshund visits Kutztown University // The Golden Bear

But before I could head to campus in search of my Golden Bear I took a trip downtown where I took a nap on the sidewalk as mom and dad ate lunch. I must say, I attracted quite a few college students with my stunning good looks, but that was to be expected.

After lunch I made my way to campus where I began my search for the golden bear.

Ammo the Dachshund visits Kutztown University // The Golden Bear

I searched high and low for my bear.

I really thought my bear would be in the school fountain too – on account of how hot it was – but sadly no bear here.

Then just when I was about to declare the golden bear as truly elusive – he decided to sneak up behind me.

Oh Golden Bear, you’re just as glorious as I expected.

Flea Market Adventures

Over the weekend I took a trip with Mom and Dad to the Flea Markets near Kutztown, PA.

Ammo the Dachshund // Flea Market Adventures

Being that I typically work on Saturdays, (when most flea markets are open) I’ve never actually been to one before.

Ammo the Dachshund // Flea Market Adventures

I spent the afternoon pillaging and searching for buried treasures among the isles upon isles of flea market goodies. There was certainly no shortage of new smells to be found.

Ammo the Dachshund // Flea Market Adventures

Ammo the Dachshund // Flea Market Adventures

Our first stop was the Kutztown Flea Market, with venders selling everything from glassware to toy dinosaurs. I had my eye on one of those Dinos, but sadly mom reminded me they would be much happier going home with a little boy who would love them than a dachshund that wanted to chew their heads off. She did have a point.

Ammo the Dachshund // Flea Market Adventures

Next stop was the Renningers Flea Market where I met some interesting people and even more interesting treasures. Dad and I immediately were drawn to all the tools and weapons (it’s a guy thing).

Ammo the Dachshund // Flea Market Adventures

And we even found some antique AMMO!

Ammo the Dachshund // Flea Market Hunting

Our final flea market of the day was unlike anything you have ever seen before. Isles upon isles of hidden finds line this amish barn that is only found through word of mouth.

Ammo the Dachshund // Flea Market Hunting

The best part is that most of the funds raised through the sale of donated items at this amish thrifting paradise is donated to charity.

Ammo the Dachshund // Flea Market Weekend

By the end of the day I was left looking like this! Flea Market Adventures are much harder than they look!

P.S. Not to worry, this photo was taken right after I was given a full bowl of ice cold water and was comfortably relaxing in the cool AC. The tongue was for dramatic effect.Ammo the Dachshund

Labor Day Lounging
