Devon Horse Show

Just as I have for the past 8 years, I took a trip to the Devon Horse Show at the end of May. Only this year I got to bring along my sister too! I guess technically she got to go last year as well (inside mom’s tummy), but I feel like when you can’t actually see the ponies – it doesn’t really count!

Devon Horse Show

While I always love sniffing new smells and seeing all the pretty ponies, sometimes Devon can get a little overwhelming for a small dog such as myself. It can get VERY crowded, especially in the evenings – and even on Grand Prix night (when the horses jump super super big fences for the chance to win big big money). Usually mom would end up carrying me around (all 20lbs of me!) when things got a little crazy, but this year we had a different option!

Rewind to a few weeks before the Devon Horse Show, and mom decided that I needed to learn how to ride in the bottom of my sister’s stroller!

So armed with my current favorite treats, these Vanilla Flavored Bully Slices from Redbarn Products, mom made me a comfy spot in the stroller so I could practice riding in it.

Devon Horse Show

Arguably it’s not my favorite place to be, but since these Bully Slices require some intense chewing effort on my part I was able to relax enough that mom could push me around the driveway.

Made with natural beef these chews are a natural source of protein and antioxidants too. I enjoy snacking on them everywhere, from work to home, and even on my adventures.

So how did I fair at the Devon Horse Show when the crowds got bigger? Well the first struggle was convincing my sister that my training chews were for me and not her!

While I did ride around in the bottom of the stroller for a little bit, I still have some work to do to be extra comfortable in there. But it’s a start!

I much preferred to chew my bully slices under a shady tree at Devon anyway!

You can snag your pup some Bully Slices from Redbarn Products they even come in some really fun flavors like French Toast, Peanut Butter, and Vanilla. And be sure to check out my full review on their products too!

Hopefully by this time next year I’ll be a real pro at riding under that stroller!

Events at the Farm

Events on the Farm // Ammo the Dachshund

Most of you who read my blog on a regular basis (hey guys) already know that I’ve been a farm dog since I was just a wee pup. Growing up on a farm means that you learn pretty quickly that everyone must pitch in and help to keep the farm running. So when we host horse events on the farm I’m the first one to lend a helping paw.

At our farm we host slightly different competitions than most people might be used to seeing. You’ll see no pretty ponies prancing around the arena while their owners buff and shine their boots to perfection – nope, we get a little more extreme with our events at my farm. Our mounted games competitions are filled with thrills and spills, as riders race at top speed through a series of obstacles with their teammates. It’s as exciting for the riders as it is for us spectators.

I spent most of my day on the start line, helping dad to watch the finishes and call placings – one of the most important jobs of the day.

Riders of all ages came out for our event, and their team gear was as fantastic as always (you know I love a good fashion statement).

My best friend Trooper was in charge of watching for rule violations on line A.

But he quickly got relieved of all duties when he couldn’t keep his eyes open!

Even my ponies helped out during the event, as they greeted all our guests with a beaming smile.

Later in the day I took my post on the obstacle course as I watched the riders compete for the jackpot cash prize!

I even had to do a bit of coaching as some of the ponies thought our pool noodle obstacle was something from another planet.

By the end of the day I was utterly exhausted – but that’s how life goes on the farm, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! Ammo the Dachshund

Dachshunds Allowed in the Automatic Car Wash

Last weekend I got to go on a brand new adventure!

Ammo the Dachshund goes through the car wash

When Mom pulled up to the automatic car wash, I had no idea what was in store. There seemed to be a lot of “No” rules – but thank goodness it didn’t say “No wiener dogs”.

I watched in fascination as the swirly-ma-jigs and what-za-ma-call-its whipped around the truck.

It was very loud and noisy, but brave super heroes like me never get scared.

When the car wash was over I was a wee bit sad.
