Flea Market Adventures

Over the weekend I took a trip with Mom and Dad to the Flea Markets near Kutztown, PA.

Being that I typically work on Saturdays, (when most flea markets are open) I’ve never actually been to one before.

I spent the afternoon pillaging and searching for buried treasures among the isles upon isles of flea market goodies. There was certainly no shortage of new smells to be found.

Our first stop was the Kutztown Flea Market, with venders selling everything from glassware to toy dinosaurs. I had my eye on one of those Dinos, but sadly mom reminded me they would be much happier going home with a little boy who would love them than a dachshund that wanted to chew their heads off. She did have a point.

Next stop was the Renningers Flea Market where I met some interesting people and even more interesting treasures. Dad and I immediately were drawn to all the tools and weapons (it’s a guy thing).

And we even found some antique AMMO!

Our final flea market of the day was unlike anything you have ever seen before. Isles upon isles of hidden finds line this amish barn that is only found through word of mouth.

The best part is that most of the funds raised through the sale of donated items at this amish thrifting paradise is donated to charity.

By the end of the day I was left looking like this! Flea Market Adventures are much harder than they look!

P.S. Not to worry, this photo was taken right after I was given a full bowl of ice cold water and was comfortably relaxing in the cool AC. The tongue was for dramatic effect.

Friday Fetch: Mr Chewy

I was super excited when my pals over at Mr Chewy offered me a chance to test out their website. Their tag line? Delivering Pet Happiness – basically I was sold.

Mr Chewy is a website that sells pet food, treats, and toys at everyday low prices. The best part, you can get it shipped right to your front door with free shipping on orders over $49.

When I went to check out the website, the first thing on my mind was FOOD. So I was super stoked when I saw that they carry my pet food of choice, Wellness, which also happened to be a tad cheaper than at my local pet store too. So I loaded up my cart in their easy to navigate site with the essential dry dog food and of course a few other items that I thought would be fun to try.

Everything smelled so wonderful, but I quickly pulled out my favorite pick of the bunch.

Birthday Week: DIY Dachshund Gift Wrap

ammo the dachshund birthday week It’s no surprise that I belong to a family of artists. My Dad is a graphic designer, my Mom is a custom framer & artist, and my pony friends (as well as myself) are painters – so when we wrap gifts – we go all artsy fartsy! Because the presentation is everything! (well at least until you rip that thing to shreds).

Even though today is my Birthday, my mom says I’m not allowed to open any presents until tonight when Dad can watch too….what a bummer! I bet you are waiting in anticipation just like I am! So hopefully this DIY DACHSHUND GIFT WRAP TUTORIAL (aka how to make your pup’s Birthday extra special) will help hold you over until it’s time to rip open my gifts.

So here’s a little inside look at how my Mom made my Birthday presents extra special this year!

Materials Needed:

– Kraft Paper
– Carve-able Rubber Stamp Material
– Stamp Carving tools & Exacto Knife
– Rubber Stamp Pad
– Black Thin-line Sharpie
– Printer paper & Pencil
– Bone Folder (credit card will work too)

1. Using your printer paper and a pencil draw or trace the shape you would like to make into a rubber stamp. In this case my mom drew a balloon & a picture of me!

2. Transfer your pencil drawing onto the rubber stamp carving material by burnishing the back of it using your bone folder. Using a credit card would also work too. Then with an exacto knife cut your drawings out of the block.

3. Carve out your rubber stamp using your tools. You can test the stamp periodically by inking & stamping it onto a piece of scrap paper.

4. Stamp your design all over the kraft paper. Then using a thin-line sharpie connect the balloon shape to your dachshund.
