Friday Fetch: PetEgo DIY Picasso Bed

Being an artist myself I’m always on the lookout for creative pet products. So when I came across PetEgo’s line of Picasso Pet Beds I was intrigued.

The concept of decorating your pet’s bed yourself with the provided washable markers is to enhance the relationship between you and your pet. The fun of being personal designers for our pets adds a unique touch to the enjoyment of being pet owners. This looks like a great product for kids to be involved with too!

That time a Car Crashed through my Shop

Those of you that follow me on Instagram may have noticed an interesting photo that I posted last weekend:

No joke, at about 2am on a Friday night mom and dad got a call from police that a stolen vehicle had crashed into our shop. Truth be told, I never even woke up – even when mom and dad left the house to go check it out.

Mom and Dad spent hours at the shop cleaning up the damage, which there was a fair amount of.

And when I arrived at work the next day, I couldn’t believe what had happened to my shop!

Even though there was lots of damage, thankfully no one was hurt in the crash. I’m counting my lucky stars, because it could of been much worse.

And I’m thinking now that the windowsill is damaged anyway, perhaps we should rebuild with a dachshund sized perch instead! Ammo the Dachshund

Friday Fetch: Handmade Dog Journals from Vintage Books

When a friend recently posted a link about a small company that makes journals out of ex-library books I knew I had to check it out. And when I spotted a few dog themed journals from Ex Libris Anonymous I knew I had to share it with all of you!

Not unlike a snowflake, a soft puppy, or a slice of warm pie, every journal we make here at ex libris anonymous is one-of-a-kind, unique, and completely unrepeatable experience. We start by exhaustively searching for the most interesting recycled books we can find, and after carefully curating our favorites, we salvage the covers (and selected pages) of the lucky book to create a very special journal.

The coolest part is that you can even send them one of your vintage books to be turned into your very own journal!

Here are a few that caught my eye:

Product Review: Ruffwear’s Swamp Cooler

Disclaimer: This review is brought to you by Ruffwear.

Lets face it, Summer is HOT! And when you’re a dog who’s covered in fur it can feel even hotter. So when I came across the Swamp Cooler Vest for dogs from Ruffwear it sounded like a great solution to keep us dogs cool in the heat. So when Ruffwear offered me up the chance to take their redesigned Swamp Cooler for a spin I decided to let my best friend Trooper test this one out. Trooper likes to tag along on the trail with the horses, but the summer (and his extra thick coat of hair) sometimes makes it just too hot for him to do so.

Product Review: Ruffwear Swamp Cooler // Ammo the Dachshund

How does it work?  Simply soak the vest with water, wring it out and put it on your dog! The evaporative cooling process will move heat away and bring cool moist air towards your dog.

Swamp Cooler from Ruffwear // Ammo the Dachshund

The Swamp Cooler was redesigned this year with three distinct functional layers. The outer layer blocks the sun, and is highly breathable to assist in the evaporative process and keep air moving through the vest to cool the inner layers. The middle layer is the absorbent layer that holds the water after you soak it. And the comfortable inner mesh layer wicks water from the mid-layer to the dog’s body keeping them cool.

On an average day tagging along with the horses at the farm this is what Trooper looks like in the summer:

So when the Swamp Cooler arrived I was anxious to see if it kept my working buddy any cooler!

Product Review: Ruffwear Swamp Cooler // Ammo the Dachshund

We started off by hosing the vest and wringing it out before strapping it onto Trooper.

Product Review: Ruffwear Swamp Cooler // Ammo the Dachshund

Trooper is wearing the size medium, which fit him perfectly. I’d be curious if some of the smaller sizes would work on Dachshunds or not – our never ending quest to find products that accommodate our big chests and long backs can sometimes be a bit difficult.

I then gave Trooper strict instructions to run his little heart out after those ponies and report back to me if it kept him any cooler. I on the other hand hung back to guard the farm because my short little legs just aren’t made for keeping up on the trail!

Then off Trooper went with my ponies, wagging his little stubby tail the whole way!

Product Review: Ruffwear Swamp Cooler // Ammo the Dachshund

When Trooper returned back to the farm he reported feeling much cooler. His tongue wasn’t hanging out as much, and it took him much less time to slow his heart rate back down. We both agree that this vest would be great to taking on the hiking trail, summer walks, or even just wearing outside in the backyard in hot weather – especially for dogs that work hard or have a thicker coat. The cooling features of this vest seem to last about an hour before it needs to be re-wet again, but as long as you bring a water bottle with you (or stop at a creek like Trooper sometimes does on his trail rides), you will always have a method of making it cool again for your dog.

Trooper and I highly recommend this product and hopefully you will be fetching your own Swamp Cooler from Ruffwear soon!

Prime Pet Supply Review & Giveaway

Prime Pet Supply Review & Giveaway // Ammo the DachshundDisclaimer: This review and giveaway is brought to you by Prime Pet Supply.

My friends over at Prime Pet Supply recently offered me a chance to take their new pet products website for a spin. Shopping, now how did they know that would win me over?!

Prime Pet Supply stocks only the best and most natural pet foods, treats and supplies available on the market. So I hopped on their website in search of a few products to try, and picked out these fun goodies:

Once my goodies arrived at my doorstep I wasted no time in digging right in!

The hardest part was choosing what to try first!

Two of the toys I picked up were the Kong Tugga Wubba Dog Toy and the Bionic Bone Dog Toy. Both of these toys are designed for tough chewers (which totally describes me) and after a couple weeks of play they are still holding up very well. The nice thing about the Bionic Bone is that it’s designed to be stuffed with treats – I’m thinking bully sticks just as soon as mom picks me up a few!

Next I tested some Etta Says! Freeze Dried Chicken Liver Treats, which I’m not gonna lie, I mostly chose these because there was a picture of a cute little dachshund on the front.

Prime Pet Supply Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

I’m a big fan of freeze dried dog treats, especially since these are made in america, all natural, and contain no preservatives. Gotta love treats that taste good and are good for you! Yum!

The next product was something my mom picked out for me. Honestly, I wasn’t that thrilled about it because supposedly it’s supposed to mask that stinky dog smell that I work so hard to achieve.

Prime Pet Supply Review & Giveaway // Ammo the Dachshund

The Earthbath All Natural Deodorizing Spritz in Vanilla Almond is designed to make your stinky dog smell much better. Mom was quite excited about this product, and I guess I can kinda be on board if it means I will get less frequent baths. I do admit the Vanilla Almond smell was quite pleasing, but not too over powering – and a bonus is it’s supposed to make my skin softer and my coat sleek and shiny!

Now the last product, and probably my favorite, was the Powzer Flash and Dash Ball. This thing was seriously cool. When the tough outer ball is shaken (or on impact) it lights up inside for over 70 hours of play. I had so much fun playing with this ball in the dark, just see for yourself….

Overall I thought Prime Pet Supply had some great products, and I also like to see that they carry a lot of all natural and healthy for you products – because that just means my mom is more likely to buy them for me!

And now for the best part…

Afternoon Shopping

Shop Dog // Work // Ammo the Dachshund

So you may have noticed that my post was a little later than normal today. I blame it on my mom. Because while I’m laying around the shop looking like this today, she’s too busy with work to help me on the computer! I guess I could help, but it’s so hard to when all I want to do is lay like this!

So to help with your inevitable afternoon boredom (which I’m sure you have by now), I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite things from my shop so you can go shopping! Because the must have cure for being bored – is online shopping!

Mattie & Margot Collars // Ammo the Dachshund

Have you heard of Mattie & Margot? If not, then you are missing out my friend. Makers of stylish handmade dog collars, Mattie & Margot carry every color under the sun, and they’re just what I needed to brighten up my summer!

Mattie & Margot Collars // Ammo the Dachshund

I purchased one of Mattie & Margot’s Mystery Collars (in yellow) and received this sunny Yellow Gold collar – isn’t it happy? With their Mystery Collars you can choose a color range for $16 or let it be a total surprise for $12 – what a great deal!

Mattie & Margot Collars // Ammo the Dachshund

And because Rachael (the expert sewing machine operator behind Mattie & Margot) knew that us farm dogs always need a back-up collar, she sent along this snazzy Bluebird/Navy Collar too.

I’m still not sure which one I will stink up first on the farm, it’s a tough call.

I was looking so fine in my new collars that my kitty pal Spider got a little jealous. Too bad for her they don’t come in kitty sizes!

But for all you canines out there, I’m sure there’s a Mattie & Margot Collar just for you, they even come in a new miniature size! Which one would you choose?

Friday Fetch: The Bear & The Rat Frozen Treats for Dogs

With my summer officially in full swing (never mind that the official start of summer isn’t until June 21), I know that with the hot days ahead I’ll be itching for some cool treats.

I came across these all natural frozen dog treats from The Bear & The Rat that are made with real yogurt and packed full of probiotics to help aid in your dog’s digestion. With flavors like Banana Peanut Barker and Bacon Peanut Barker they totally have me drooling. (Sadly I’ll never get to taste test these myself though, because my tummy is sensitive to yogurt – but I can live vicariously through you!).
