Ugly Sweaters and Holiday Cheer

Now that it’s December it’s about time we started singing Christmas carols, baking cookies, and wearing ugly holiday sweaters.

Ammo the Dachshund // Christmas Cheer // Bullseye the Target Dog

So when my pal Bullseye the Target Dog sent me a little box of “holiday cheer”, I knew he had the right idea.

Ammo the Dachshund // Christmas Cheer // Bullseye the Target Dog

So I stuffed myself into that ugly holiday sweater, whistled the tune to jingle bells, batman smells…. and had my own little holiday party.

It was glorious, and just what I needed to kick off the holiday season!

Road Trip with Ammo – Dog Friendly Shopping in North Carolina

Yesterday you learned all about my 10 hour road trip which plopped me down in Asheville, North Carolina. Well, I’m back to share with you some more of my thanksgiving vacation adventure, more specifically….shopping!

Road Trip with Ammo the Dachshund // Pet Friendly Shopping in Asheville, North Carolina

When I awoke in the hotel the next morning I was so excited to start my new adventure that I bolted out of bed.

Road Trip with Ammo the Dachshund // Pet Friendly Shopping in Asheville, North Carolina

Ok just kidding, you know me too well…..I slowly dragged myself from my snuggle fortress; I am so not a morning dog. But once I got going it turned out to be a glorious day in downtown Asheville.

I was super surprised to learn that most of the shops in Asheville were pet friendly, and not just the ones that sold dog items.

One of my pit stops was the Funky Mutt, a tiny pet shop with a big attitude…..just like me!

One of my must-go places while visiting Asheville was the Three Dog Bakery.

They must of known I was coming, because they decorated the shop with my brethren so that I would feel welcome.

Trooper and I wasted no time in picking out some delectable treats to bring home. I went straight for the peanut butter balls!

Trooper was VERY excited!

Next door to the Three Dog Bakery I popped into the ZaPow! Gallery to soak up some of the local art. It’s a talented bunch in this state!

Then it was off to the ever enchanting Battery Park Champagne Lounge and Book Exchange.

It was here that I met Jonsie, a local pup who frequented the establishment nearly every day with his owner.

I tried my best to fit in with this sophisticated crowd in the Champagne Lounge, and I’m sure if I lived in Asheville I would be dawning a smoking jacket in no time.

Overall my shopping experience in Downtown Asheville was delightful. I’m sure in warmer weather (during my visit it was about 60 degrees) the streets would be bustling with patrons and their pets. I can’t wait to visit again soon.

Check back tomorrow to hear about all of my hiking adventures in Asheville! Ammo the Dachshund

Giveaway: Canvas Prints from Printcopia

**This Giveaway is no longer accepting entries.** Congrats to our winner, Annie H. who plans to get a print made of her lab/doxie mix, Marshmellow!

Ammo the Dachshund // Printcopia // Canvas Prints of your Photos

A couple of weeks ago I was contacted by my pals at Printcopia, an online resource for getting your photos made into canvas prints and other printed materials. They offered up an 11″x14″ canvas print, so I could take their services for a whirl. Being the art-loving pooch that I am, I surely couldn’t pass up the opportunity!

Ammo the Dachshund // Printcopia // Canvas Prints of your Photos

But before I could order my canvas print I had to choose which photo to use – not such an easy task when your parents take hundreds of photos of you on a weekly basis.

Ammo the Dachshund // Printcopia // Canvas Prints of your Photos

After pouring over thousands of photos of me I finally settled on this one taken during one of our big blizzards a few years ago. Adorable isn’t it? You can ooooh and ahhhh if you like.

Ammo the Dachshund // Printcopia // Canvas Prints of your Photos

Then I hopped on the computer and proceeded to go through the process of ordering my canvas print from Printcopia.

Ammo the Dachshund // Printcopia // Canvas Prints of your Photos

After uploading my chosen photo I had the option to resize it. I also noticed you can even easily upload photos from Instagram and Facebook, which makes the process even easier!

Ammo the Dachshund // Printcopia // Canvas Prints of your Photos

Then I selected a border option (I chose to mirror my image) for how my photo would look on the edges of my canvas & picked a display method too. Finally it was off to checkout, with the promise that a week or so later my new print would be arriving in the mail.

Ammo the Dachshund // Printcopia // Canvas Prints of your Photos

When my canvas arrived I could hardly wait to put it on display in my house! I love it so much that I’m already dreaming of which of my favorite Instagram photos I’d love to get printed to hang on my wall.

And now because it’s your VERY LUCKY DAY! Printcopia has offered to giveaway an 11×14 Canvas Print to one Lucky reader! How awesome is that?

Wilderness Trail Treats Review

Last week my friends over at Mr. Chewy were kind enough to send me over a package of Blue Buffalo Wilderness Trail Treats in Chicken Jerky to try. Now honestly, who would pass up the opportunity to eat treats….no one I tell you, no one.

Ammo the Dachshund // Blue Buffalo Wilderness Trail Treats Review // Mr. Chewy

I must admit, I’m already a fan of the Blue Buffalo brand, in fact I currently eat their small breed dry dog food, but I have never tried their Wilderness Trail Treats.

Ammo the Dachshund // Blue Buffalo Wilderness Trail Treats Review // Mr. Chewy

I was certainly intrigued by the “wilderness” part of it, and I pictured myself lurking in the wild in search of my dinner just like the lone wolf on the package. But just to be clear I do not want to be dropped off in the woods to fend for myself – I like my dog bed and heat lamp, and prefer my food to come pre-packaged, just fyi!

Ammo the Dachshund // Blue Buffalo Wilderness Trail Treats Review // Mr. Chewy

So after the obligatory “pose with package” photos mom made me take, I was more than ready to test them out.

Ammo the Dachshund // Blue Buffalo Wilderness Trail Treats Review // Mr. Chewy

Mmmmm, tastes like chicken!

Ammo the Dachshund // Blue Buffalo Wilderness Trail Treats Review // Mr. Chewy

Ammo the Dachshund // Blue Buffalo Wilderness Trail Treats Review // Mr. Chewy

Blue Buffalo’s Wilderness Trail Treats are grain free and made with no by-products or artificial anything, which means it’s practically like eating chicken….right off the chicken!

Ammo the Dachshund // Blue Buffalo Wilderness Trail Treats Review // Mr. Chewy

As I gnawed on my pieces of chicken jerky I couldn’t help by channel my inner wolf – although in my case I was gnawing on imaginary ground-hog (those sneaky critters).

If you want to channel your inner wolf too you can fetch your own bag of Wilderness Trail Treats from Mr. Chewy!

My Latest Shopping Treasures

It’s no secret that I love to shop for the latest and greatest dog products, evident by my weekly blog feature, Friday Fetch. So when I actually get a chance to test some of these products out myself convince mom she has to buy me something, I love to share my experiences with my fans.

Ammo the Dachshund // Molly Mutt // Found My Animal

I always seem to be in the need for a new dog bed, mostly because I like to chew on my bed at work. Don’t tell my mom, but really I chew them up because I can’t wait to pick out a new duvet cover from one of my favorite companies, Molly Mutt.

Ammo the Dachshund // Molly Mutt // Found My Animal

I love Molly Mutt because the dog bed duvet covers are oh so stylish, and mom says she loves them because she doesn’t have to pay for an entire new dog bed when I go on one of my chewing frenzies. So I guess you’d call it a win-win.

Ammo the Dachshund // Molly Mutt // Found My Animal

My next purchase of the week was a leash made by Found My Animal, because a dog can never have too many leashes.

Ammo the Dachshund // Molly Mutt // Found My Animal

Mom purchased this leash through the new deal site LeLePets at a discounted price. It caught my eye because it was a little bit different than the average dog walking device. Yes it is bright orange (probably wouldn’t have been my first color choice though but it was the only thing available through LeLePets), but it also comes adorned with a stamped tag.

Ammo the Dachshund // Molly Mutt // Found My Animal

I’ve always been a fan of the rope leashes (probably because they are reminiscent of a pony lead rope, and you all know how I love ponies), and this one even has a few extra goodies up it’s sleeve.

Ammo the Dachshund // Molly Mutt // Found My Animal

Instead of being a fixed handle at the end it has a clip that can be attached to two different rings, creating a larger or smaller loop. Mom thought this would be great when she needs to “park me” at a tree, or perhaps during a therapy dog visit. I mostly thought it would come in handy so I could attach myself to the paddle board should I go overboard again on our next lake outing.

Either way, this new leash attachment has already proven to be very functional.

Overall I give both this week’s purchases two paws up – hopefully I’ll be back soon to share some more pet products I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing. I just have to get my sad puppy eyes warmed up to use on mom…..I have my eye on some new fall sweaters! Ammo the Dachshund

*Disclosure: I was not paid or perked to share these products with you. Both items were fully purchased.

Product Review: Outward Hound Life Vest for Dogs

You might remember that a couple of weeks ago mom purchased me a life vest from amazon just in time for my paddleboarding adventure.

Stand Up Paddleboarding with your Dog - via Ammo the Dachshund

Seeing as how some of my fans may be in the market for a life vest as well I thought I’d give you all a little rundown of how I’m liking it so far.

Stand Up Paddleboarding with your Dog - via Ammo the Dachshund

Product – Kyjen Outward Hound Life Jacket

Features:

  • Convenient top grab handle for easy resuce by hand or boat hook
  • Front float assists in keeping dog’s head above water

Stand Up Paddleboarding with your Dog - via Ammo the Dachshund

Pros:

  • Definitely helps keep me afloat much better
  • Handle makes it easy for mom or dad to rescue me out of the water
  • Front float helps keep my head above the water – which is a bonus because I hate getting water in my ears
  • It’s comfortable to wear
  • Bright color makes it easy to spot me floating in the water
  • Budget friendly price

Stand Up Paddleboarding with your Dog - via Ammo the Dachshund

Cons:

  • Sizes run smaller then the chart online – so a small is a bit too small for me and I probably should have ordered the medium. So when in doubt choose the next size up
  • Doesn’t have a d-ring attachment for a leash

kyjen pet life vest

Overall I’m very happy with my new vest, I definitely feel safer and enjoy swimming a lot more, I just wish I had gotten the medium so it fits me a little better.

You can fetch your own doggie life vest from amazon for about $20 Ammo the Dachshund

I was not paid or perked to write this review, product was fully purchased (thanks mom) – links do connect to my affiliate amazon shop.

Friday Fetch: The Life of Ryley

While on one of my many searches to find a cool and new product to show you for my Friday Fetch installment on the blog I came across a super fun site that sells some unique pet products. And because I couldn’t decide on just one item to share I decided why not share all my favorites!

the life of ryley

Here’s the story behind the pet products sold on The Life of Ryley…

The Life of Ryley was born out of frustration!  Over a decade ago, designer Tracy Stillman was trying to find a collar for her soft-coated wheaten terrier named Ryley.  How could it be that no collar existed that effectively showcased Ryley’s unique personality? Much less a collar that appealed to Tracy’s level of style and sophistication?  This was one spectacular duo that needed more than just an ordinary old collar.

So Tracy created her own collar just for Ryley…and from there The Life of Ryley blossomed.

The company took a little catnap for a few years.  But things kicked up again when The Life of Ryley was introduced to Colin Cuneo, a business developer and dog-lover drawn to the sense of adventure and go-gettum’ attitude that dogs bring about.

Together, Tracy and Colin have brought The Life of Ryley back with a full line of products that boast style, class and quality for pet owners who understand that sensible accessories can still be fashionable accessories.

Sadly, Ryley passed on June 8, 2010. But the rebirth of this company serves as a tribute to this angel who will be forever loved.
