Events at the Farm

Events on the Farm // Ammo the Dachshund

Most of you who read my blog on a regular basis (hey guys) already know that I’ve been a farm dog since I was just a wee pup. Growing up on a farm means that you learn pretty quickly that everyone must pitch in and help to keep the farm running. So when we host horse events on the farm I’m the first one to lend a helping paw.

At our farm we host slightly different competitions than most people might be used to seeing. You’ll see no pretty ponies prancing around the arena while their owners buff and shine their boots to perfection – nope, we get a little more extreme with our events at my farm. Our mounted games competitions are filled with thrills and spills, as riders race at top speed through a series of obstacles with their teammates. It’s as exciting for the riders as it is for us spectators.

I spent most of my day on the start line, helping dad to watch the finishes and call placings – one of the most important jobs of the day.

Riders of all ages came out for our event, and their team gear was as fantastic as always (you know I love a good fashion statement).

My best friend Trooper was in charge of watching for rule violations on line A.

But he quickly got relieved of all duties when he couldn’t keep his eyes open!

Even my ponies helped out during the event, as they greeted all our guests with a beaming smile.

Later in the day I took my post on the obstacle course as I watched the riders compete for the jackpot cash prize!

I even had to do a bit of coaching as some of the ponies thought our pool noodle obstacle was something from another planet.

By the end of the day I was utterly exhausted – but that’s how life goes on the farm, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! Ammo the Dachshund

Easter Egg Hunt for the Dogs

Easter Egg Hunt for the Dogs // Ammo the Dachshund

Easter is this weekend, so mom decided we could have a little pre-Easter fun by having an Easter Egg Hunt!

Incase you didn’t want to miss out on the fun either, here’s what you’ll need to have your very own Dog Friendly Easter Egg Hunt:

  • Plastic Easter Eggs
  • Small Dog Treats
  • An excited Pup that’s ready to hunt for eggs!

Simply fill your eggs with the treats and place them around the house or yard for your dog to find.

You can also use the egg hunt as a way to work on some training. Asking your dog to sit and wait before hunting for the eggs helps them learn patience.

Make sure to supervise your pet during the egg hunt, as you will have to help them open the eggs once found (it’s those cumbersome paws)! Also be sure to make sure they don’t chew on the eggs, as they can break easily.

Next time I think I’ll have to invite my friends over to partake in all the fun!

Happy Easter! Ammo the Dachshund

Did you pack your Swimmies?

Some of my weekend plans got washed away when a big storm came rolling in on Saturday night.

I’ll admit, I was a little sad that I had to spend most of my weekend inside of the barn instead of hunting groundhogs and running around the farm.

In fact, I was tempted just to park myself in the comfiest spot I could find and ride out the storm.

My plans changed though when Nitro whispered in my ear, “Hey Ammo, Do you think if it keeps raining like this that we might all float away?”

ammo the dachshund rain

Float away? Float away?

ammo the dachshund rain

Definitely not on my watch!

ammo the dachshund rain

And boy did I watch!

And after all that watching nothing got “floated away” – well aside from some of my earthworm pals (but I’m fairly certain they can swim pretty well….I think).

Just as a precaution though I packed my emergency swimmies in mom’s car and my Chincoteague Pony Pals on the farm assured me that they are excellent swimmers. It’s times like these that I’m glad I have friends that were born on an island!

Dirt, Tunnels, and Spring-time Baths

Sometimes I’m completely perplexed as to how I land myself in the bathtub at the end of the day. However, this was not one of those times.

ammo the dachshund on the farm

See last week the ponies had a new “obstacle” set up in the arena that I just couldn’t keep my paws off of.

ammo the dachshund on the farm

It’s enticing “dirtiness” and tunneling capabilities were just calling my name.

And when Boomerang pointed out that I had a little something on my face – I knew my trip to the bathtub was inevitable.

Sigh. At least smelling like sunshine again isn’t all that bad.

Rainbows and Sunsets on the Farm

Just as I was finishing up my chores on the farm last week the sky began to darken – and not just because the sun was beginning to set.

The rain came and went leaving everything dripping wet on the farm, but it also left something pretty awesome behind.

A beautiful rainbow light up the hills behind the farm.

I’m not sure Nitro and Jet appreciated how spectacular it was as they stuffed their horsey faces with grass.

I on the other hand, know a good rainbow when I see one!

As I waddled about the farm enjoying my rainbow I couldn’t help but think that this is truly what SPRING is all about.

The garden is growing.

Even the weeds are sprouting.

And enjoying some rainfall under a rainbow on the farm is heaven….

Friday Fetch: Silly Buddy Bow Ties – NEW Spring Collection

I’m a super duper fan of Silly Buddy (did you know he’s a real dog? Hi Buddy!), in fact all the collars I own have been made by Buddy’s mom. So when I got wind of their new Spring Bow Tie Collection I was so excited to share it with you.

The colors are so bright and fun – perfect for springtime weather! I’ll take one in every color please.

Smelling the Flowers

ammo the dachshund smelling flowers

Lately I’ve been coming in from the back yard looking like I was in a snow storm – covered in a dusting of white.

ammo the dachshund smelling flowers

But not to worry, it still really is Spring here in Pennsylvania – and the reason for my snow storm-ish look lately – the glorious flowers are blooming!

ammo the dachshund smelling flowers

In particular my peach tree in the back yard is blooming!

ammo the dachshund smelling flowers

Now normally I’m not really a “pink” kind of guy, but I have to admit – the flowers are very pretty.

ammo the dachshund smelling flowers

And not only do they look glorious, but they smell pretty good too.

ammo the dachshund smelling flowers

Although, (to be fair) you probably shouldn’t take my word for it – considering I do like to munch on horse poop on occasion.

As much as I do enjoy a good old fashioned snow storm, my spring time “flower petal snow storms” are quite enjoyable too. And it just reminds me of how important it is to stop and smell the flowers on a daily basis, even if they don’t smell quite as delicious as horse manure.

Early Spring at the Lake

In Pennsylvania we’re having an early Spring this year. Even though today is the official first day of Spring, in the weeks leading up we’ve been having glorious 70 degree weather.

ammo the dachshund at the lake with ponies

I’m all about this warm weather, which is why yesterday I decided to take a trip with my ponies to Marsh Creek State Park.

ammo the dachshund at the lake with ponies

Blitz and Boomerang went for a little dip in the lake while I got to do some exploring.

ammo the dachshund at the lake with ponies

Did you know that it smells like fish at the lake? I don’t know about you, but I LOVE fish.

ammo the dachshund at the lake with ponies

Even though I really wanted to do some fishing, the water was a bit chilly for me.

ammo the dachshund at the lake with ponies

I didn’t catch any fish this time, but I did find a stick. Highlight of my day!

ammo the dachshund at the lake with ponies

I also found this neat rock.

ammo the dachshund at the lake with ponies

And then I got really brave, and actually took a dip in the lake!

ammo the dachshund at the lake with ponies

Next time I plan to bring a raft so I can float out just as far as the ponies can! And Boomerang promised me he’d learn how to use a fishing pole. I’m so excited!

Anyone else having an early Spring this year? Have you been on any Spring adventures yet? I’m already compiling my list of Summer activities that I want to do this year! Yipee!

Little Helper

Last Sunday Dad put up gutters on the shed in the back yard. Mom says it’s so we can collect rain for the rain barrel she got for Christmas – and then we can water the magic horse poop and get some good eats this summer!

That’s great and all – but if it’s soooooo important to put the gutters up, then why did I get stuck behind the fence while everybody else helped?

At first I thought it was a punishment. But then I remembered I hadn’t chewed anything bad in AT LEAST a week, so it couldn’t be because of that.

Then I thought maybe it was because I was too short. But I showed mom that I could stretch really long, so it definitely couldn’t have been that.

It could of been because I didn’t have any rubber boots like mom, but she knows that getting my feet wet doesn’t bother me at all!

I thought perhaps if I showed mom how excited I would be if she let me help then I could get out from behind the fence, but jumping up and down did nothing.

Then when I saw Dad climbing the ladder I realized what it was……..

I left my tool belt at work.

dang!

Wet Paint

Wet Paint.

I should have known. When your day starts like this….

….. you will end up like this……

sigh.

My pal Minnow had a much more successful painting day than I did.

While he created 3 masterpieces (check them out here) I somehow ended up with blue paint in my mouth. Don’t ask.

At least I’m not the only one that requires a bath after painting day….
