Cat in the Hat

Sometimes we wrestle. Sometimes we go hunting. Sometimes we sunbathe. And other times…….we like to wear silly hats together.

This is Spider – and she would like to be a painter too. So I let her borrow my beret.

Sometimes I have trouble sharing. Don’t tell my mom.

DIY $5 Rope Dog Leash

So mom noticed lately that I’ve been ooh and ahhing over this trendy rope leash from Mungo & Maud. And while I’ll always think it’s super stylin’ – $110 for a new leash for me just wasn’t in the budget.

Instead, on a recent trip to a tack shop in Delaware – mom came up with a plan to make me my very own Rope Leash. For $5!

D.I.Y. $5 Rope Dog Leash

Supplies: cotton horse lead rope, hammer, rope clamp

Step One: You will need to obtain a cotton horse leadrope. I got mine at a horse tack shop for $3. You can also get them online* and at most tack supply places. Or check your local horse supply store.

Step Two: You will need to buy a clamp to make the end of your rope into a handle. I bought a package of two (you know, incase I need a rope leash for my best pal Trooper) for $4.39 (about $2 for each one) at the local hardware store. Most hardware stores should carry them in the rope section, and you can find them online*.

Step 3: Figure out how big of a handle you want at the other end and adjust your rope into the clamp accordingly. It also helps to have a cute little dachshund around for supervision.

Step 4: You will need the help of your dad to hammer the clamp shut around the rope.

Then Tada! You are ready for your next walk in your stylish dog leash!

If you don’t have access to a horse lead rope, you can also use any cotton rope. You will just need too metal rope clamps and a snap for the end – all supplies can be found at the local hardware store.

Yeah, you know you want to beg your mom or dad to make you one of these bad boys!

I think I need one of these in every color! Almost as good as the real thing…..

I was not paid or perk’d to share this product. I just think it’s totally pawesome!

The Training of a Super Dog

These are my two best friends. Minnow the Painting Pony and Trooper. All three of us do lots of things together. Minnow and I get to perform together as Super Pony and Super Dog. Trooper and I mostly just wrestle. I’ve been feeling kinda bad that Trooper doesn’t get to go on big trips with me and Minnow, so I decided to do something special for him.

I’ve decided to take him on as my protege and train him to be MY sidekick, Super Trooper!

Minnow pretty much busted out laughing when I told him this.

After all, Trooper is a little big to fit through my hoop.

But I’m a pretty good trainer – so I know I’ll get my pal Trooper set straight! After all, he only has about 4 weeks to prepare for his…..

…… FIRST PERFORMANCE!

And the best part is …..Trooper has to perform in front of all my Dachshund friends at the Keystone Dachshund Races! It is certain to be epic!

Don’t worry, I told him I’d perform with him as the Star of the Show (so no one will notice too much when he messes up). So if you don’t want to miss Trooper’s debut performance – and my amazing wonderfulness, be sure to come to the Keystone Dachshund Races and watch us perform at lunch time! Admission is $2 – but it goes to charity!

P.S. I’ll be racing for Charity too! Although no promises on a winning race – I hear last year’s champion, Mr. Monkey, will be back to defend his title. I’m shaking in my boots!

Oh and in case I don’t embarrass myself enough on this blog. Here’s some photos from my first dachshund races when I was just 8 months old.

At least I won something.

The End.

My trip to School

When my mom told me we were going to school, I was super excited. If there is one thing I do know, it’s that kids LOVE to feed dogs! But what I wasn’t expecting was the 4am wake up call!

I had had a super busy Mother’s Day the day before – so it was really hard for me to drag myself out of bed – even for the kids.

But I pulled it together the best that I could, and me and Cricket helped mom pack the horse trailer. See we were headed to the Renaissance Academy to teach the kids all about Misty of Chincoteague (you know from the famous kid’s book). When we got there mom had to give a talk to all the kids about Misty, but I made sure she also mentioned Alex, Misty’s Dachshund sidekick.

Photo from Life Magazine

Seriously how cool is it that Misty also had a super cool dachshund sidekick too! Did you know he did tricks too? He could jump through a hoop, climb a ladder, and he even liked to dress up in doll clothes. We totally would have been best friends. I’ll have to write a post later with more about my brother from another mother, Alex!

Later Minnow and I performed our famous skit, Super Pony vs. Super Dog. The kids laughed like crazy when I got to wear my stunt helmet – one kid even wanted to know if I could do a back flip. I think I’ll definitely have to learn……just for you kid…..because you think I’m cool enough to do a back flip.

I was even filmed for a new video my Uncle Taylor is going to make. I’m sure I’ll be the star.

After each performance Minnow and I got to walk around so the kids could pet us. Well ok, Minnow walked, and I got carried. I won’t lie, I took the opportunity to take a nap.

Yeah, I was pretty popular – lots of kids even wanted my autograph!

By the end of our visit I was pooped!

Even Super dogs need to take naps sometime!

The Dog Door

Yes, the dog door. Sometimes it’s my best friend. Perfect for bringing inside sticks, apples from the apple tree and lots more outside treasures when mom isn’t looking. Yet other times it’s my enemy. Too small to fit the real treasures through.

I think I need an upgrade to the extra wide model.

Friday Fetch: Doggie Hair Do’s

I may not be follically-challenged (at least yet…..well aside from my bare belly), but that doesn’t mean I couldn’t have a blast dawning these hilarious doggie hair do’s from Bitch New York.

Seriously, how laughable would I be in a Sarah Palin wig, or with a Shirley Temple do?

All the wigs come with a strap that can be adjusted for each dog. The wigs are light and comfortable to wear, and are also restyle-able.

You can fetch your own stylin’ wig over at Bitch New York.

$24 – $50

UPDATE – these products are unfortunately no longer available.

I was not paid or perk’d to share this product. I just think it’s totally pawesome!

The Cat-Dog

I really think she has no clue.

And she must be spending way too much time with me. Not that I blame her. I am a super fun guy. But really, just look at that face….

….that’s the face of a CAT, not a dog, a CAT. And Spider the kitten really has no clue that she’s supposed to be a cat. Which is probably why Spider has taken to chasing her tail on a regular basis:

just like her big brother Ammo…

Rwarrrrr!

Oh Happy day! It’s getting warmer and warmer out at the farm, which means I’m getting to have a lot more fun with my kitty friends.

Hey Spider! Want to play jungle animals? You can be the Tiger and I’ll be the Lion. We can go on Safari together!

Humm. It’s a nice try Spider, but you’re being a little too “pretty” for a Tiger.

Yeah, that’s it. Blend in, so we can hunt for Safari creatures!

And then pounce when they least expect it!

I just wish you hadn’t gotten sooo great at blending in when we play Jungle animals….

….because really….where are you?
