Winter Storm Stella

Winter Storm Stella

Finally! Yesterday I got to have a true Snow Day! Which means I didn’t have to go to work, and I got to spend the day playing with my family in the snow.

Winter Storm Stella

This was Baby P’s first big snow, and I was so excited to show her exactly what to do on a snow day.

Farmyard Fun with a Dog in the Fog

This is totally going to be the name of my children’s book someday, “Farmyard Fun with a Dog in the Fog”. It sounds like something straight out of a Dr. Suess book.

And truth be told, I always have a lot of farmyard fun in the fog!

The damp blanket of foggy goodness seems to bring out all of my friends to play.

I’m always the first to grab a stick and entice my friends to join in the fun.

Catch me if you can ponies!

Before I could turn around to see who was joining me in this fun game of chase I was in the middle of nowhere, and the fog had covered me in it’s blanket!

I thought I might be lost.

Cricket got worried when she could no longer see my yellow coat in the pasture.

And Blitz began nickering for me so I could find my way back to my friends.

The Fog Rolls In

The Fog Rolls In // Ammo the Dachshund

The other morning on the farm things were looking a bit eery.

The fog rolled in over the hills and I could barely see in front of my nose.

I felt like I was on another planet as the sky molded into the ground and each step I took had me wondering what was on the other side.

As I drifted around the farm I began to think that this fog could be of no use to me what-so-ever.

But I shouldn’t have been so quick to to judge because Cricket reminded me that fog was one of the best type of “weather conditions” to go hunting in.

Smelling the Flowers

Lately I’ve been coming in from the back yard looking like I was in a snow storm – covered in a dusting of white.

But not to worry, it still really is Spring here in Pennsylvania – and the reason for my snow storm-ish look lately – the glorious flowers are blooming!

In particular my peach tree in the back yard is blooming!

Now normally I’m not really a “pink” kind of guy, but I have to admit – the flowers are very pretty.

And not only do they look glorious, but they smell pretty good too.

Although, (to be fair) you probably shouldn’t take my word for it – considering I do like to munch on horse poop on occasion.

As much as I do enjoy a good old fashioned snow storm, my spring time “flower petal snow storms” are quite enjoyable too. And it just reminds me of how important it is to stop and smell the flowers on a daily basis, even if they don’t smell quite as delicious as horse manure.

Hurricane Irene

On Saturday evening Hurricane Irene made it’s way towards my home in Pennsylvania. I’ve never been in a hurricane before (after all I’m only 2!), so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I knew enough to be a little scared, especially since mom and dad brought in all of our outdoor patio stuff, and mom weatherproofed the shop on Saturday morning.

Several hours into the storm we lost power, only moments after we heard of a Tornado warning for our area on the news. So into the basement we went to hunker down for about 20 minutes before the threat passed.

I of course used this time to practice my scary bark threats – you know – to tell Irene to get outta here!

The next morning I woke to a still very windy and rainy mess outside – which meant I had to spend most of the day inside. If you can’t tell I was a little depressed. Mom and Dad tried to keep me occupied by playing scrabble with me (especially since there still was no power), but I really just wanted to go exploring.

In the late afternoon the storm finally cleared, and we headed out for a drive to take care of the ponies (who weathered the storm just fine).

I couldn’t believe how much the water had risen along the Brandywine, which runs just below the farm.

On the way back we stopped by the shop to make sure that it fared the storm ok.

Luckily there was no water damage even though many of the streets in town were flooded. But there was some wind damage to the awning out front. Mom says she hopes it’s not too expensive to fix, I told her I’d try to sell a painting to help pay for it!

Power was out at both the shop and at home, so lucky for me I got to spend the evening playing board games with my family. The “Chester County” game continued on into the wee hours of the night.

Power at the house was out until mid-day Monday – which makes me very glad that I’m a dog, and I don’t require indoor plumbing!

P.S. I hope that all my friends weathered the storm ok and no one suffered any major damage. I’ll be searching for my groundhogs tomorrow to make sure they made it through the storm ok.
